The County Council Organizes.
As required by the new reform daws, the Jasper County Council met last Monday and elected Dr. L B. Wasburn, president and David H. Yeoman, president pro tem. All the members were present with the exception of A. J. Bellows, who, through a misunderstanding as to time of meeting for organisation, was not present. The members of the Council are: I. B. Washburn, M. L. Spitler, A. J. Bellows and Nathan Eldridge, republicans, and D. H. Yeoman, Wm. Cooper and Frank Welsh, democrats. These gentlemen are well known to the taxpayers of the county and stand highly. The Democrat believes that the Council will use its best efforts in behalf of the taxpayers and trusts that much good may result. The first annual meeting will be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in September, which falls on Sept. 5. At thife meeting the council will pass on i the expenditure estimates and proposed tax levies.
Has Money to Burn.
Bro. McEwan, of the Sentinel, sold his two residence lots in Monticello last week for $1,250 cash. He is thinking strongly of moving his present residence to one of his vacant lots and building a fine new residence thereon.—Journal.
Still After the Democrats.
Prosecuting Attorney Mills has begun action in the circuit court against Wm. McElfresh and Wm. H. Eger, charging false tax listing. Judgment for SSOO and costs of action are asked for in each case. The property alleged to have been omitted is money loaned and on deposit and accounts due the parties.
