Thomas Thompson Dies Suddenly.
Tuesday afternoon at about 5 o'clock Thomas Thompson was stricken with heart disease and died in a few moments in the county clerk's office at the court house, where he was sitting engaged in conversation with the clerk and C. W. Hanley. The grim messenger came without warning. Mr. Thompson was sitting in a chair with his feet elevated and had just ceased talking when Mr. Hanley noticed a sudden change come over his countenance and his body become rigid. He at once sprang to his side and it was first thought he had merely fainted. Medical aid was hurriedly summoned but the stricken man never regained consciousness and died within fifteen minutes. One or two groans were the only signs of life exhibited after the fatal stroke came. Short funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday at 7 o'clock p. m., by Rev. C. D. Jes- * fries, after which interment was made in Weston cemetery. David J. Thompson, who was in Michigan did not arrive here until Wednesday night, at 11 o'clock, too late to attend the funeral. Isaac arrived Wednesday. Following is the obituary as handed to us: Thomas Thompson, the eighth often children of David and Eliza (McCoy) Thompson, was bom in Orange township. Hancock ' county. Ohio. Aug. 4. 1841. He atterded school and received a good education. He taught in the winters of 185&-188& and in 188* in Company H. 86th Ohio Regiment of Volunteers. He eras severely wounded at the battle of Peach Tree Creek, from which wound be never recovered. After the war dosed, Thomas west into the bank of his unde, Thomas McCoy, at Lisbon. Ohs. !In 1813. he entered into a law partnership urith his brother, Simon P„ under the nrme of Thompson A Bro- for four years, and han. since resided in Rensselaer. Ind. The law wan not to his taste. He afterwards formed a bank j partnership with Alfred McCoy under the name of A. McCoy A T. Thompson, which continued several years. Thomas* health declining he scent out of active business but continued to deal in real estate. He married Mattie Parkison, April SB, 1878. who died I July 18. 1883. after deven years Of happy wedded life, leaving one child Kay D- noma lawyer in Rensselaer. Mr. Thompson married Mrs. Jennie R. Laßue. on Aug. 88, 1888, who survives him. Theirlives have hern con gonial and their home a happy one. W. Thompson was a patient sufferer for thirtyfive yearn but was for the moat part able to contract business. Up to the time of Ma death he seemed to be ia his usual health and was convening with Obe Clerk of the Court when the thread of life gave away. These was no acute suffering but the shock to Ma family was very severe. Thomas Thompson was an apt pupil, a good teacher, a careful banker, an honest buainem ! man with a mind stored with useful know ■ ledge. The world waa much the better because of his living. AU his acquaintances* join with his family and relatives in mnnraiag his death. His character, sentiments and acts even under the constant sting of sickness and pain continued tc be patient, kindly and marked with strict probity. His was a soul of honest purpose. In his family, kindnem marked his every word and deed. His sudden death closes a pure record of good deeds and an example worthy of eumlation. Of his nine brothers and sisters bat three remain: Isaac. aged 71. of Bluffton. Ohio. Devid J- aged 63, of Indian River. Michigan, and Simon P.. «ed 6L of Ren ami aar. Indiana. The life of Thomas Thompson was spent , in being just and generous m boy, teacher, « citizen, busband and truber.
