Varioloid exists among tha Indian atrtlenta at the training school in Carlisle, Pa. J. Neale Plumb, the murderer of Banker Alexander Masterson, died suddenly in a New York hospital. Frank P. Mellon’s feed and grain store in Philadelphia was destroyed by fire and six firemen were hurt. Marie Wainwright was married at New York to Franklin Roberts, who was her leading man last season. Seven hundred men employed as shipbuilders and boiler makers in the various ship-building plants of Baltimore struck. An alliance has been formed between Harper & Brothers and the 8. S. McClure Company, publishers of McClure’s Magazine. New York police have received a letter from the kidnapers of Marion Clark, which convinces them that the child is alive. James A. Price, commander of Reynolds Post, No. 71, G. A. R., of Philadelphia, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. The United States transport McPherson arrived in quarantine at New York from San Juan, Porto Rico, and Santiago de Cuba. She had on board 141 passengers. The long-talked-of chewing gum trust has been incorporated at Trenton, N. J., under the title of the American Chicle Company, with a capital stock of $9,000,000. Carrie Jones, the nurse who helped to steal Marion Clark, was arrested near Summit, N. J. She said the child was stolen to extort a ransom from the parents. The New York Board of Aidermen, by a practically unanimous vote, ordered the Board of Estimates' apportionment to set aside $150,000 for the celebration of Dewey day. Joel D. Tyler, formerly teller of the Safety Fund National Bank of Fitchburg, Mass., has been found guilty of misappropriation of funds of the bank by a jury in the United States Court. It develops that the tragedy in which Mrs. Johanna Schilling of New York asphyxiated herself and two young daughters, Gertrude and Edna, grew out of a quarrel between the woman and her husband. There has been incorporated with the Secretary of New York State “The Naval Military Order of the Spanish-American War,” with the principal offices in New York City. Gov. Roosevelt is one of the directors. Marion Clark, New York’s kidnaped baby, was restored to her mother’s arms Thursday night, alive and well. The baby was found in the mountains near St. John, Rockland County, N. Y., where she had been taken by a woman known as Ida McNally. Grover Cleveland, former President of the United States, was captured while poaching on the land of Frank Johnson, a farmer of Tyringham, near Winsted, Conn., and ordered from the place. His friends say he strayed there inadvertently, not knowing the boundaries.
