An exchange says that it is a well worth remembering to the users of incandescent electric lights that broken wires ia the bulbs may often be mended ia a simple manner. By turning on the current and shaking the bulb the broken ends 'will often come together and the electricity will weld them firmly, making them as good as new. Try this next time you have a broken lamp, it may save you the cost of a new one.

Quite a number of the handsome signs recently painted on the win. dows of business houses in Rensselaer have been defaced by hoodlums, the worst case of the kind that has met our our notice being that of the Commercial State Bonk. , Sometime one of these t|p defacers will be caught in the adt, and then a good strong dose of the kw will be meted oat to him. He who will maliciously destroy the property of another deserves to be severely dealt with. Every taxpayer in Jasper county, irrespective of politics, can wall affoid to contribute a dollar a year, the subscription price, to the support of a newspaper conducted solely in the interests of the people of the whole county. Such a paper is found in The Dkhqcrxx, and the necessity for such a newspaper in Jasper county is manifest to every fair minded man, and its support should come from every taxpayer who favors a care-_ ful and economic administration of county affairs. Sidney Schanlaub, late editor of the Morocco Courier, and John Manley, also of Morocco, were in Ren maker on business Tuesday. This was the first time the writer had aver had the pleasure of meeting Editor Schanlaub, and while most editors are good looking,' of course, “Sid” carries an aristocratic air, fine figure and intellectual face not often met with in the ranks of country journaßsaa. To be {dais about it, he is’ the best looking newspaper man we have seen for some time.

A. P. Hawn of Goodknd, was in the city the first of the week talking up gas lighting plants to some of Rensselaer’s business men. The superiority claimed few this sytom of lighting is that it is much cheaper than electricity, gives a better light and is always ready for use. Several business hous6h«at Goodknd, Remington and other points are supplied with the system and it is said to give the most perfect satisfaction in every particular. Mr. Hawn hopes to be able to put in a plant in cue of the stores here, in which event he feels confident of fully demonstrating the superiority of the light, and that many of the business houses will adopt them. It is a fact generally admitted that unlesaelectricity can be manufactured at less expense, some other system of commercial lighting will soon come into general use.
