The Common Council.

The common council held ft J special meeting Tuesday night to ’ hear remonstrants on the proposed street improvements. J. T. Randle et al remonstrated j against the improvement of Cullen and Forest streets, but the same was held insufficient and a . resolution was passed to make the 3 improvement. The proposed improvement is to be 30 feet wide from| Washington to Cornelia street, and 20 feet wide from Cornelia to Oak. ' The Clark street remonstratorsj had a sufficent amount of proper- ; ty represented and this part of the j proposed improvement was knock- 1 edout. I J. W. Pewter withdrew his ob- I jections to the improvement of I Vine street and same will be 1 made, the improvement to be 20 I feet wide. ' A remonstrance signed by the ; county commissionersand several of the property owners against the improvement of the west, south J and east sides of the court house square was presented, but as the remonstrators did not reside upon ' the streets effected the same was held no good. A nice little point 1 to besettled is whether or no the I county can be considered a resa- I dent property owner in the. meaning of the law in this ease. The court house is the office home eff | the county, and it is said the com- j missioners intend to fight the matter in the courts. The original intention was to improve these particular streets with brick, but 1 it is rumored that the change l might have been made to macadam because a certain company of street improvement contractors were not iir the brick paving bus- j iness. The Cedar street improvement, or three west blocks thereof, was laid over until the next meeting for the city attorney to look up some law points in regard to the ’ matter.
