Candidates for Marriage.

In South Africa some of the savage tribes have a peculiar ceremony through which they put the matrimonial candidate, previously to his entering the holy state, for the purpose of testing his fitness for it. His hands are tied up for two hours in a bag containing fire ants. If he bears unmoved the torture of their stings, he is considered qualified to cope with the nagging and daily jar and fret of married life.
