WANT’S ’EM TO WORK. Hammond News: A. F. Knotts wants the saloon vote. If you don’t believe it read the verbatim copy of a letter bearing his signature Hammond, Ind., Oct. 20th, 1808. Mr. Cooney Kellner, Rensselaer, Ind. Dear Sir lam going to ask you to take a personal interest in my behalf in your locality. Xou know it was impossible for me to see everybody during the short campaign I was compelled to make in your county. 1 know too, that Mr. Yeoman is ; a respected citizen of your county and have not a word to say ' against him, but you know as well as Ido that HE is not Ol'R KIND OF PEOPLE. It is unnecessary for me to make any argument to you on that subject. lam receiving the support of many loyal, hard-working democrats, and 1 am going to ask you to do some personal work for me. 1 would like to have you see all of your friends and especially the democrats and see if you cannot get them to give me their vote. 1 wish you would send me the names of any you thii k it might be well for me to write to, designating whether they are democrats or republicans. Hoping to hear from you soon. I am Yours Very Truly A. F. KNOTTS. Mr. Knotts tells the saloon men Mr. Yoouiaii is "not our kind of people’**which may be true if Mr. Knotts means engaged in the saloon business, and we never before heard of Mr. Knotts being in that line himself. David H. Yeoman is a citizen of Rensselaer and has the respect of the anti-saloon* element in that temperance town because of his upright life. He has in as large a measure the respect of the men in the liquor traffie. While not a man to make campaign pledges, which are made simply to catch votes, his long and honorable career has been free from interference with the affairs of other men, be they saloon men, mechanics, farmers or business men. Rensselaer is a town where saloon men are fought by the temperance element yet never has David H. Yeoman meddled in these affairs. Saloon men can best know how to protect their interests by the past records of parties. Th Nicho son law is a creature of the Republican party of which A. F. Knotts is a member. The republican party claims to embrace all the moral people of the land, and fathers all legislation antagonistic to the free exercise of freedom and liberty. To this party A. F. Knotts aim will not be to look after “our kind of people!” but instead will at all times endeavor to do that v hieh is to the interest of the
FAUST! It is a Moral Lesson Better Than a Sermon. The Detroit Free Press, May 9, says: The production of Goethe’s masterpiece “Faust” at the Whitney Opera House, yesterday afternoon and evening, by Porter J. White and company, was a credit to the theatre and everyone connected with the play. Primarily, the author of “Faust” is to be thanked for the intellectual feast, but the audience owes no small debt of gratitude to Porter J. White and his associates for an earnest and worthy rendering of the piny, nnd for the adequate and attractive scenic embellishment with which Mr. White lias enhanced his production. Ellis' Opera House, Thursday, Nov. 3.

GREENBACKS or Government Money. ——— • v At close of our Civil War in 1865, there appeared in the London Times the following: “ If that mischievous financial policy which had its origin in the North American Republic during the late Civil War in that country, should become indurated down to a fixture, then that government will furnish its money without cost It will have all the money that is necessary to carry on its trade and commerce. It will become prosperous beyond precedent in the history of civilized nations of the world. The brain and wealth of all countries will go to North America. THAT GOVERNMENT MUST BE DESTROYED OR IT WILL DESTROY EVERY MONARCHY ON THIS GLOBE.” The famous Hazzard circular, to capitalists in New York, and the Buell Bank circular to United States Bankers, both emanating from London, and the fabulous corruption fund raised in England and Germany, estimated at $1,500,000, were the agents that secured tiie dosing of our mints against silver, r The “walk into my parlor” policy of England, during and since the Spanish War, is the latest evidence of English Diplomacy in shaping the destiny of the United States Government. Notwithstanding the famine price of wheat, the Spanish War, and fabulous expenditures of money by pur government during the past year, gold has increased in value eleven per cent, and all other values decreased in the same proportion. For a thorough understanding of the money question, or silver issue, the Cincinnati Enquirer has uniformly given evidence qjf its ability to teach, explain and produce all facts and truth. It is a paper that ought and can be read by all classes with pleat* ure and profit.
