We showed two weeks ago that §§,958.50 was the amount paid the contractors, §656.50 of which was extras. Its total cost including everything, has been about §IO,OOO.

The man who is obliged to sell his labor to another or starve, without an opportunity to work for himself, can hardly be called free. Freedom means some kind of choice. The man or the company of men that owns the public franchise will assert and enforce that ownership with gunpowder and rifles. The only safe way to maintain liberty is to prevent encroachments upon it.

Bro. Clark’s style of petty personal journalism may please his class of readers and no doubt does, but it is a back number in the more advanced field of newspaperdom. However, we are perfectly willing for him to publish any and all communications that he may receive from our former home, or that his readers enquire as to our reputation there. Should he ever find that we were compelled to sign a statement that we were a liar and let off at that on condition that we leave the town and county, why, give it a place in the Journal columns.
