MARKET REPORTS, CHICAGO, March '..Wheat w.as weak at the start today, but afterward recovered ami closed v higher for May. The mild weather, large northwestern receipts and lower Liverpool quotations caused the early decline, but the liberal clearances, a decrease in New York stocks anl a decrease in the visibl? .supply turiifvl th. thle ami May loset 'lily from the lop. May orn is V higher and May oats "( higher, but provisions closed lower all around. The cold wave, which it was feared might da mage tlie wheat plant, did nt appear on schedule time. Th early cables reported an increase of 71l,.')io bushels in th" quantity of wheat and flour on ocean passage, and Minneapolis and Duluth returned ."AS cars as the r--celpts at t h - two placis. A year ago they got car. Th LiverpMl market was. quoted weak an-1 'ii lower, with more disposition on the part of holder? to sell. The bulls having sin h a number of materially bearish matters arrayed apainst them at the ftart hal wheat for sale as soon as opportunity was offered, ami th. bears who were short were unwillinp buyers as at a nil" at over r.H'ic for May. A few lots found buyers at 59dC at th" oicninp. That showed a decline since the close on Saturday of from to '4''There were no symptoms of recovery f-u some time, anl not until the price hal bunipetl several times against eO'sC. The recovery which subsequently occurred was cause! InNew York a-lvising a reduction in stocks, there for the week of 1.2'io.ni'O bushel.". The price under the latter influence rose to ."0"4c. There hal been a pool deal of buying apainst puts on the earlv decline and on the rally all th wheat so bought was m sal-1. Muii of it ivas disposed of at between .".:';.(. ji't-c. but th quantity proved toohaw for the demand and a drop to r:te was brought nb-,ut by that sott of celling. There v.as some curiosity to ascertain where the 1 .200.000 bushels decrease at New York had pone, and in answer t an inquiry, 1.1.110,0011 ,,f the vanished amount was thus accounted for. Lispon pot ".'iO.oki bushels of it, the Fnited Kingdom .".eo.OOi) and milkrs 'JO'.'". There was atmther advance to ,"! c after the puhliatiin of the vi?ible supply statement, which showed a decrease of l.fisS.OOO bushels. The day's clearances from the Atlantic ports were likewise a help to the bull side, amounting in wheat and Hour t about 4S3.0OO bushels and in addition to that Nov.- Orleans shipped 100.0 bushels of wheat. The influence of the early news again came into play iti the absence of any outside demand fur cash wheat, and the pri e for May wheat again went down to Wiffrwijc about 12:".0 o'clock. The English visible supply v as estimated to have dcreasei 1,400.000 bushels during last week. The priep touched '97.e early in the day and sold sparingly at that juice a sc ond time near the close. The latest trading was at .".Pe. In corn there was a moderate trade, the interest increasing some as the session advanced, the bulk of the trale taking place after the early advance. The opening was easy on the sprink-like weather and liberal receipts, but he market was qriet and very little life manifested until a brokerage concern started in tj buy. which caused prices to advance suddenly 'hc with a little trading, until 37e was reached for May and "Se for July. Prices were fairly well sustained for awhile at the advance, recoiling later 1j,'214C, held steady and closed with May only tc from the top. In oats there was a firmer feeling. Prices advanced Uffc and closed steady at the top. The strength was due largely to sympathy with corn and to the decrease in the visible supply. There was very little doinp in provisions early, a dull feeling prevailing-. The market oftoned weak and lower in sympathy with the decline in wheat and then ruled fairly steady on some little disposition being shown by the packers to support it. There was. however, some selling of lard by one of the packing houses, but the offerings were taken readily by a foreign commission firm. Ultimately the market broke on .free ..f. fering-i. particularly of pork, by some of the packers who turnel sellers, a few stop loss orders coming in. no outside support, and continued trading by the em mission house before referred to. The weakness was emphasized t some extent by the corresponding condition if live hogs at the yards. Later on there was a moderate reaction in pork on the commission house already mentioned turning buyer, with the closing steady fur pork and lard and ribs weak. Comparel with Saturday May pork is t'-.c lower. May lard. TV-o lower and May ribs Vk- lower. Kstimat.xi receipts fot tomorrow: Wheat. 70 cars; corn, .".."0 cars; oats, 275 cars; hogs. 20,000. This weakness was helped by an ii!-reiise on passage of 12.00 bushels. A couple of large floor traders tnimedii tely became free seller?, depressing prices down to .vcc, at which point a good advance set in. helped by r decrease in New. Special. The most d estructive fire in the history of Morpantown occurred at that village late last night, causing the destruction of an entire business block. j The flames were first discovered in th i rear room of Norman's drug store. I among the liquors, paints and oil. and it was but a moment until the entire interior of the store was a mass of seething names. There was no water at haivl and a very inadequate bucket brigade, and as the terrified citizens crowed to the front it was to be seeh at a glance that the entire block f wooden buildings was doomed, and wi;h strong hearts and willing hands the work of removing the contents of adjoining stores was begun. Considerable goods were thus saved, but the largest inantity was destroyed. In quick' succession from Norman's store the flames took possession' of c,,iletfs general store, Mitchell's hardware store. Knight's grocery and dry goods store. Smith's general ftore. in the second floor Of which building it is understood was located the office of the Morgan town Bee. which is a total loss. Obenschain's furniture and undertaking rooms. Arch Mitchell's grocery and Miss Wade's millinery store. The entire block from the east end livery stable to Hancock's drug store on the west was destroyed with the exception, of the brick building on the west end. but this was considerably damaged. During the progress of the blaze a boy named Dennis had an ami broken, an. I so far as known this was the only accident ncuninp. How the flames first started no one seems to know positively, but one informant states the general impression is that it was of incendiary origin. The amount of insurance is known to be small, while the loss is estimated al about forty thousand dollars. It is a serious blow to the town, and it res;s with the unfortunate ones how soon thplace shall reover from this serious contlagrathm. Whipped for 11 Sin derer. WARSAW, March 3.
