J A warning to boys who smoke cigirettea la conveyed in the death of one of their number in this city Jast Saturday. Whatever groend there may be for the opinion that moderate smoking does not injure adults, there can be no queatson about its effect upon boys. It is seen in pinched faces, stunted bodies and dwarfed intellect. Paste this axiom in your hats, boys who are under sixteen years of age: None of yon who is an inveterate smoker of cigaretteta will ever make a conspicuous success in life. The Important s'ocks were omparatively neglected throughout the day and a few specialties monopolized the bulk of the interest. The feature of the market was an upward spurt of over 8 per cent, in St. Paul and Duluth common, part of which only was afterward lost. The story was that under the terms of its issue the preferred stock of the coinrany nust nowbe redeemed from the proceeds ot land sales, in which case the common stock would fall heir to the surplus. The Oregon stocks showed some strength, bat the gains were afterward wiped out. There was considerable hammering for the purpose of acquiring lines of stocks, and the rood traders Indulged their boai ish proclivities by vigorous attacks on New England. The entire list yielded to the pressure, there being a conspicuous absence of support while the maret showed decided animation on the dee'lne.
