CATARRHAL DANGERS. To te freed from tbe danger of suffocation while lying down ; to breathe ireely.sleep soundly and undisturbed ; to rise refreshed, head clear, train active and free from pain or ache; to know that so poisonous, putrid matter defiles the Ireath and rots away the delicate machinery of tmell, tate and hearing: to feel that the system docs not, through its veins and arteries, suck the poison that is Mire to undermine and destroy, is indeed a blessing beyond all other human enjoyments. Tne veterans of justice olserved the holiday by continuing the Maxwell trial, and the counsel for the State, by introducing evidence in rebuttal to the prisoner's testimony, which they think n iil prepare the alleged murderer for a grave which they hope may be decorated a year from the present time. The first witness called by the prosecotion was Morgue Superintendent Fyan. He testified that he, in company with Drs. Trewett and Xidelet and Mr. Clover, of the counsel for the State, visited, last Friday, the cemetery in which Mr. Freller's body had been interred and exhumed the remains. A postmortem examination was made, and certain organs referred toby Maxwell in his testimony as diseased, Vfere removed and taken to Dr. Erokaw. Ihe body at the time was in good condition better, if anythicg, than at the time when it was buried. The defense objected to tev.ivriony on this point on the ground that the defense were L.cpt in ignorance of the occurrence and they h.id no representative to see that the body from which the organs were removed was reailv Trel.er's. The Court overruled the objection and an exception was taken. An opportunity, however, wds af terrtrd glren counsel to "argue the ques fori, and Mr. Fauntleroy, of the desens?, tpoke against admitting the testimony, After considerable discussion the Court decided to admit the testimony, and Dr. Freett was placed upon the stand. He testified that Drs. Nidelet and Brokaw and himself had witnessed the exhumation of Freller's remains on last Friday. The body was in excellent condition, no decay being visiole nnder the surface. The membranes were in excellent condition. The parts which Maxwell testified were diseased were found to be in a normal, healthy condition, and no stricture under a most careful examination could he found. Coroner Nidelet testified that he was present a, the postmortem examination referred to above and corroborated the testimony of lr. Prewett. A. V. L. T.rokaw, Assistant to the Chair of Fnrgery and Demonstrator of Anatomy in the Missouri Medical College, was present at the dissection of the organs referred to, and testified that he had made a personal examination of them, but failed to find evidence of any disease or stricture. The State then announced that they had no further evidence in rebuttal to offer. Mr. Fauntleroy, of the defense, asked the privilege of having the parts of Freller's body, in posseision of the State, inspected Dy experts. Mr. Clover, of the prosecution, wanted the names of the experts submitted to him, and was willing to give them to any reputably physician or surgeon, except the medical advisor of the defense. The defense declined to accept this conditional offer, and the testimony was then declared closed by both State and defense. Judge Van Wagoner said he would endeavor to have the instructions ready by to-morrow at 10 o'clock, and adjourned court until that time. Of Interest to Pensioners. Colonel C. A strange tragedy has been enacted in Woodbridge. For nearly a year past Henry W. Elliott, a younu man. aged nineteen, living in North Haven, has been teaching the district school in Woodbridge, which contains about sixty scholars. To-day the school Closed, and the scholars clubbed together and made him a handsome present. Dming the past winter there have been a few refractory large boys who have tried to set the authority of tje teacher at defiance. Elliott was a plucky, strong fellow, and by the advice of the School Committee he finally began to resort to corporal punishment. Among those to whom he administered severe Hoggings was Charles Bishop, a ooy of seventeen, who was nearly as large as Elliott and who weighed 150 pounds. Elliott gave him an awful thrashing a few days ago for some flagrant act Tbe tKy then threatened he would lay out Elliott the first chance he got. Yesterday afternoos about 4 o'clock Elliott discharged the other pupils and made preparations to walk home, ebout lour miles. He looked out of the window and saw two yonng men witn black cambric masks on their faces. By the clothing of one be knew that it was Bishop; the other he failed to recognize. He looked around tbe schoolhouse and found a large piece of wood about three feet in length and about two inches wide, and quite like a bludgeon. He took it in his hand and then locked the door and looked arouud for his expected assailants, knowing that they would Xrobably attempt to ai'ack him. He did' not see anything of them. He walked on toward home, and down tbe road apiece he saw them jump over the fence and make for him. As they came up they beean to throw cgns and other misRiles. Elliott started toward Bishop, and was hit iu the face with an egg. He drew hi club and hit Bishop a tremendous blow on the top of he head, felling him like an ox. He then started for tbe other asailaut. As he came up the masked voutb diew a pistolnd aimed it at the teacher. Elliott advanced in a threatening manner, and the youngster dropped the pistol and took to the woods. Returning to where Bishop lay. Elliott assisted in having him taken to his home. Ho was nearly unconscious, but Rave as his verton of the story that be bad a fit and stumbled and hurt his Lead on a stone. Be gradually lapsed into unconsciousness, arid finally last night at 7 o'clock he died. No arrests have been made, and it is believed that Elliott will give himsell up to the oßijials of Woodbridge.
