Ciyitf frr Der Bond Sna Bolls on the floor and Demand Her Securities. iNew York Herald, Jan. 23. Brigot and early yesterday morning Mrs. K. H. Green, the richest woman in America, walked down Wall street and entered the clEces of John J. Cisco fc 8od, the bankers, who closed their doors the other day, owing lira. Green their heavieet creditor about $500,000. Mrs. Green, who locks something like Mrs. Kat her ford C. Hayes, was acoora panied by her husband", whos about seven feet in height, very thin, stoop rhonldered, o4 wears glasses. They were a striking looking couple. The baaiera' offices had jost toeri o.eneJ, and Assignee May had ea-u-rta ot.lj a lew momeuu baiore. TKn tt:oi ble BECiiss, Mrs Green said that she had come to take way her securities. These securities, as the Herald ha3 heretofore explained, consists of 5overnment and first-da's railroad bonds to the yalae of 26 000,000. They are trust funds in the yaolts of the Ci'CDs, and are cot averted by the suspension of the firm. Assignee May told Mrs. Green that by adrice of counsel he should refuse to allow her to remove a'l tee securities. 8be mui be said, allow $500.000 worth of the securities to remain in hs custody as collateral for the loan cf $800,000 made to Mrs. Green's Irasband sotr-e time asp. Or, he added, the nrght take all the securities if she or her hn band repaid the loso. In the interest of all the creditors of the firm, Mr. Ma 7 1 aid he was obliged to Use this coaro. When Mr. Greu borrowed the money he had oat ap bonds and stocks of the l.juis? He aad Nashville Railroad Ooiupwy. This collateral had since depreciated so mach that the loan was not protected, and it either must be margined op or taken down. Mrs. Green was very indinaot. She said ahe was D4t repoQsiblefor money borrowed ty Mr. Green, and aaia demanded her enrities. Mr. Green, it is said, had noth ing to say. Mr. May told the lady that the firm had evidence to show that in the pres ence of witrf sees she had promised to protect the loan. He aain refaie i to permit fcsr to remove the securities. MBS. t.üir BECOME4 EXCITED. Mr?. Green became excited. She insisted opon having her bonds. "My dear lady," said Mr. Mar, "yon know very well the bands are safe in my custody I am sure I don't intend to rnn air ay, and I don't believe I shall die." Bat Mrs. Green would not bs pacified. 8he threw herMlf down upon the lloor and burst Into tears. She cried and demanded her bonds and made a noisy aoene in the odise Mr. Green tried mildly to qutet his wife, bat f be would not be quieted, tihe continued to ait en the Moor, rocking herself backward and forward, weeping copiously and loudly demanding her bonds. She refused to take any nnleas she was given tbem all, and won Id not listen when the siaignee tried to convince her that he was merely endeavoring to act Justly toward all the creditors, and that he would hare no right to show her a preference. Mrs, Green remained in theofSoe and pro longed the stormy scene until afternoon, and finally left, threatening to appeal to the law. The action of Mr. May in refusing to de liver the securities is said to be in strict conformance with the advice of his legal ad Titer. Mr.Green.it is understood, has list a great deal of money in the opium pool which culminated a year ago with a loss of f V-WOjijO to those who engaged in ic Tb MusttmDt of Dlpbth-trUa. Sanitary Engineer.! Diphtheria is spread by conUuoi, by which la meant parlic ea of living matter de rhrsd from a person attested with the disease. In the great majority of cases theie particles cirue from the mem bane lioln the nose, throat and mooto. Wlut the nature of these partieles may be, whether they live, grow and multiply outside the animal body, and whether diphtheria can be produced spontaneously by exposure to the emanations from collections of lth, are questions to which at present no positive answer can be given. However the tirit cares may arise, there is i o doubt that the majority of caies are pro iOfd by contaeion from a previous case; -"4 in the management of this disease, when u appears in a family, an etfortshoald be ris-je to prevent the diiTmbn of this con if tte patient is sensible au 1 crefa), and aid this effort, it is usually not dilUcuit to greatly restrict or entirely prevent the apread of the disease after its presence is j9Cfai2.; b3) pa. majority fl tie fU?pJs

are children, Impatient of restraint, thoughtleea and careless, and d'fiicult to manage as regards preventive measures, unless they are

so in as to he confined to bed. The great difficulty and danger arises from the mlldsr cases, often unrecognized, and considered to be cases ox simple sore throat or quins v. There are many cases in which at first a killed physician can not say positively wuewer n is contagious aipnmena or a sim pie non-epecific inflammation with which he has to deal, and his uncertainty may con tinue for a considerable time. If Dr. Jacobi's views are correct, and he is certainly very high authority on this subject, diphtheria may exist, especially in the adult, in a chronic form, not greatly disturbing the health, or at all events not preventing the person so affected from going about and performing his or ber usual duties, and yet making the secretions of such person capable of conveying the disease. The precautions to be taken in the management of well maraed case of diphtheria are, or should be, generally known. They have been published as circulars by many health boards, and through the secular and medical pTtfs, and may be summed up as follows: let) ate the patient in an airy rocm, having the least possible amount of furniture, especially that which is upholstered, and having no crpet or curtains. Disinfect all excretions and s-eretiooa, and especially those from the throat' noee and mouth, and all articles soiled by them,' promptly, and while they are yet moist, and thoroughly. Use clean, soft rags for receiving the discharges from the noee and mouth, and born them as fast as srlled. If other articles are toiled, use solutions of chloride of zinc, or bichloride of mercury, under the instructions of the nhysiclan. Be especially careful as regards tays, p?ncil', or other articles which may ba given the child for its amusement, of the articles used it giving it food and drink, and of the remnants of such food and drink. Lvartaing that has touched the patient's lips, or that has been touched by anything thai has touched the patient's lips, is dangerous When convalescence has set in do not yield toe soon to the importunities cf the patient to be allowed io sea h!s friends or to go oat, nor to your own feelings of weari nets at the long continued confinement. Ab Ave all things do not. under the excuse of giving charge of air and ecene, eend him oUf to seme other place to complete his recovery; you might sen J dynamite abrit tha country with scarcely more risk. 1)j not send the child back to school in less than six weeks after the attack; about two weeks after yon are satisfied that he is entirely well is a very good rule. If the little life is net strong enough to withstand the attack, and is cut short, do not in yonr grief forget the danger to other lives which the house and its contents may yet cause. Do not allow sympathizing friends and playmates to enter; do not have any funeral ceremonies in the house; treat the sick room and its contents as being dangerously infected. In mild and doubtfnl cases follow the plan above indicated as nearly as yon can, and be sure that all your care and patience will be needed if you wish to obtain security for other members of the family and for Irlecda Give Them a Chance. If the thousands and tens of thousands of weal, and weaiy sufierera throughout tbe land, who, in spite of care and skill, are steadily drifting downward, could have tne benefit of that Bingnlarly Vitalizing Treatment sow so widely dispensed by Dra. 8tarkey & Palen, of 1,109 Girard street, Phil adelphia, the help, and ease, and comfort it would bring to wasting bodies and depressed spirits would be blessings beyond price. If, reader, yon have an invalid wife, or mother, or daughter, or sister, or any one who is under your care or dependent upon you, and to whom life has become a burden through weakness and pain, consider seriously whether yon are not bound, in both love and doty, to give this sufferer a chance of recovery, or, at least, the blessing o! ease from pain. Yon are offered the amplest means of information in regard to this new Treatment. If toucan examine testimony without prejudice, and can weigh evidence with juderoent and discrimination, write to Dra. Starkey it Falen for such proofs iu documents and reports of cases as will enable you to lairiy examine and decide for jourself. They will be promptly supplied. Ball I van Io Another Urnnkra Fracai. Boston, Jan. 23. John f Sullivan became engaged in a free fight in an Eliot street bar-room last night, where he had been drinking with companions most of tbe afternoon. Sallivan became offended at a man named Hodgkins, whose opinion on pugilistic matters differed from bis otto. After some worda Sullivan caught Hodgkins by bath arms, and with his head struck him between the eyes. Another of the party, named Dellere, at this point swore at 8ullivan, and said he was no xcan. Releasikg Ilodgkins from bis grasp Sullivan, who was mad with rsge and liqaor. struck Dellere, felling him Hemelers The frienJs of the latter Intel feed acd the fight beevne general. A bar tender nanc d Msgnire drew a revolver. This and the arrival of a detail of eighteen otlicers from tbe station brought quiet, bot no until uli present were more or lees hurt. Dliere, who was badly hurt, declares he will procure a warrant for Sullivan's arrest. Tte old custom requiring saleswomen is dry and faocy goods stores to stand all day long witbout rest or relief is being supeitrded by more humane rules in many of tur leading business houses. Lydia K. Pink ham's Vegetable Compound is highly praised by those who have not yet been freed from the old necessity for constant standing, aid is a genuine blessing in every such case, as well as to the tired-out housekeeper who must be on her feet all day. The Long Islaad Indians. Sxw.Yoas:, Jan. 23. There is considerable trouble among the Bhinnecook Indians on Long Island. A majority of the tribe opposed the sale of the Bhinnecook hill to the Long Island Cailroad, but the trustees consummated tbe sale and pocketed the money. Oae of the trustees, one of tbe leading men of the tribe, got the money and tied with it to Canada. Tbe Indians intend to bring suit to question the validity of the sale, and regain possession of the lands. There la no ne el denying the fact th:it among the most distressing complaints of humanity few are equal in Intensity to bleeding piles. You say the subject is not a pleasant one to talk about; neither is tn victim, and our aim ia to give him relief. Jacob Chambers, of Henry street, re w York, writes: "When I began using MiahJer' Herb Bitters (as per printed directions) I bad been troubled with bleeding piles for upwards of five years. In six weeks I was perfectly cured." Still Quakt eg. Madrid, Jan. 22 Earthquake shocks were felt again yesterday at Ma-aa, Leaja. Vetez and Almunecar. Some damage was done at the latter place.
