Exposed Bodies of Old Battlefields BreedinfZ Pestilnre and Death. Lonpon, July s The cholera epidemic in Egypt continues to spread rapidly andsteadily. The most extraordinary efforts to Eüf press it at Dimietta have thus far proved unavailing. The scourge makes daily headway up the Nile. Thera can hardly be a doubt now that it will reach Cairo. If it docs, inch are the miserable sanitary conditions of that capital, it will devastate the place and secure the central lodgements e3eential to a sure spread in all directions. It is timply ridiculous to talk of British sanitary regulations in Jizypt. There have been none to-day in all tha' sect'on of the country, between Kassapsin Lotks and Tel l.l Kehir, and for fifteen milessouth of the latter place, in the direction of Cairo, may be seen the bones of horses and men protruding from the ground where a year ao the victims of the war were buTied under a thin screen of loose sand, which long ago was blown away, leaving thousands of dtad human bodies a prey to the tropical sun cr equatorial rains, and to make appeals for pestilential punishment upon the invaders. The Continental press continue to express strODj dissatisfaction over what is called the lax action of the Knglhh authorities in Egypt. Caieo, July s. Il is supposed he i in New Jersey, and probably a meeting will take place today ia the vicinity of Hoboiipn. Knox and 6heahan Lave been the warmest friends for two years. Mr. Knox came to New Ycrk from Texas about turee- week? sf:p, and took quarters at the Hotel Dam, in Fuion Square. He had arraccred to return to Te"ES on Friday, and, to commemorate his ! enjoyable vibit here, resolved to give a dinner to a few of his more intimate friends. He intrusted the task of issuirs the invitations to Sir. Chase, who is an advertising ffrent. The latter sent out cards to Mr. Hamilton, an English gcn'Jeman, whose acquaintance Mr. Knox made some time ago, and to Janus Hoacb, ft playwright ot this city, Mr. Hugh Farrar McDermott and Mr. Sheahan. The dinner was given at an uptown rtsort, and lasted until midnight. Wine lit wed freely, and Mr. Sheahau, coraE under the influence, bean to abuse tue Ktiglishraan, greatly to the annoyance of Mr. Hsmilton, the English agent, and other gentlemen present. Finally the scuptorchanged the tuhjtct and denounced Texas as a lawless and altogether depraved Commonwealth. The Lone Star editor asserted that the North wss equally bad, to which. Sheahan replied: "You lie." Knox grew livid end returned the compliment. Before tbe meeting broke up the two men had egreeu tbat they must have satisfaction, and had selected seconds. It is rumored thsit John A. Knox, of the Texts ISif tings, and David B, bheehan, tbe fculptor, bad hostile meetings on Long Island and that the- former received a tissh wound. There has been an avertge daily attendance of about l"0iu the orl har-Ege schools during the entire year. The health of the Institution has b?en vrry good except in May, whea an epedemic of mild scarlatina broke out. Notwithstanding this serious disease no deaths occurred. EosT05, Mass., July C Judge Field, of the Supreme Court, to-day ordered a writ of habeas corpus to issue, returnable Friday, ia a case which will probably attract some attention whea the facts are developed at the hearing. The object of the writ is to secure the release of a woman from the Liuatic Asylum in South Boston who has been t'iere but a few weeks, during most of which time it is claimed she h3s been perfectly sane. Tho treatment consisted mainly of the administration of chloral, which was con tinned until the woman wes sent to the hospital on the certificate of the physician trat she was icsane.
