2sa-ja Testimony Concerning the AasUuton Conspiracy On vf the CrluiiAla Dying. Dcbmw, Feb. lf. John Pwyr, charged "with conspiracy to murder Government a:5cials, is dying in the Prison Hoppiial. Twenty-one o( the pr souera have been Oit itted lor tritt 10 answtr to the charge o murdering Lord Cavendish and Burke. -Joseph Smith has turned informer. Fatrick Wnexan has been liberated on bail. The hearing of the prisoners charged with cor! ring tu Murder Government officials rai resumed to-day. All the prisoners were again placed iu the deck. Amid bLüös one of the prUoneiB shouted, "TLe
lature Lor.l Major Carey." The latter bootc his bead in a menacing manner at his farmer comrades. His examination was then resumed, and he spoke more conlioent- . than be did Saturday, acd replied to the croCM-exaai inalion of Countel Sbarpley. He
-deposed, &u,id buses by the prisoners, that Ce belotigfl to the Fenians, but not to the Supreme Cornell. Theobject of the Fenians waa to separate Ireland trom England, the former country then being baraoJ by cotTCioa. He had no ide.i that Lord UiveLiish. was to b murdered when Türke was attcaeked. He was s'upefifd when be beard of the ruuruer of Cavendish. Ca--iaiiittn? Carey eaid he gave 'he information regarding the murder two days uro. fianl it nad decided to give iheeviiKice directly afierhe wa3 arreated, though 1ms did no'. Cu ao till Thursday. Carey ws examined by Murphy, '.-own couu&el. He said that after the pablic-ttion of the article in the Freeinu.'s Journal tiu that all officials were to be removed f turn the Castle, the murder of Burke was oeuaed uro a. la eveut of the inquiry concluding to uey. it is understood me prisoners will be returned for trial before a special comrniE avoa of three Judges. This course will be necessary, at the prisoners, each having the rtftht to challenge twenty Jurors, could exttautt the panel. Special arrangements are already I v ug made at G;eeiif treet Court XIcKise for the trial. The pmomrj committed for trial include all that were under examination, except Wtwlau. The public present in Court to day joined in hissing Carey. The only remarkable feature so far has been the ealloTuness of Carey while under examination. Alter the readme 01 Careys deposition a man named Xtil deposed tc his seeing a cl in the Park on the day of the muder. He i Unified Fritz Birres as the driver. A labour? man named Murray gave eiinilar evidence. Four cccui ants of the car used by the a-wis-nns were then placed in frcnt of the d ck for identification by Golden; the Park Ranger. An Carey passed the d.ck James Mullett struck at him and succeeded in touching his head. Carey turned to expostulate, but was pushed to the witness table by a detective. After the prisoners had been committed, the Crown counsel stated Joseph Smith wou'd be examined at the trial. The article in the Freeman's Journal referred to by Carey In the testimony to-day spoke of the desirability of a thorough change of officials at the Castle, which was an aujrf an staute, Carey left the Court fiojiu at a uoor furtherest from the dock. Ciockleri identified Thomas CaiTrey as the fourth man on the car containing the murderers when it was driven from the Park. Carey produced a copy of the Freeman's Journal to confirm his statement in regard to the determination of the conspirators to murder Burke. His action created a sensatioo. It i expected the p:isoners will be Cried in March. Murphy Mated he hoped to be able to pro I aoe the uiao known as "No 1 " Londojt, Feb. 19 In the House of Coixmons this aiterr oon, Sir Herbert Maxwell, Confrvative, a-keil whether P. J. Sheridao, ttltuded to by Carey in his testimony Satur day, vas the man who was connected with xii "Kilmainliani treaty" negotiations. Trervolyar, Chief SSecntary lor Ireli nd, amwere t "ys" Lurd Randolph Churchill gave notice on ? ha 1 f of the Government Iba', in view of ihe confession of the assassins in Ireland, 5ie wou'd move an Ramend man t to the address in ar-wer to the speech from the 'Throne, and no further concessions be made Co lawless agi ration. Tbe PrfSi Association fays there is reasin to believe there is no doubt whitever concerning the name and identity of the man referred to b James Carey in nis testimony -Saturday, a "Number 1." It is believed -he is concealed in Londm, where hear xid within the last forty-eight hours. The Times says the suspicions raised by the evidence eiven by Carey on Saturday, can orrly be allayed by a thorough dLclojure cf the accounts of the Lard League, subject to independent audit. Until this is done the League will ba under suspicion of maintaining secret relations with criminal conspirac es of the foulest type. The Times a-ks: "What is thought of the offer of Parnell to place thi influence of Davitt. Iin, Sheridan and Boynton at the disposal of the Government for the restoration of the order of Ireland, or of the stales manship which, in spite of the warning cf those beit acquainted with Ireland, leaped at Parneirs ocditions for pesce?" It is reported Byrne and a cumber of others wilt be arrested, including the mena gr?i ot tb Land League fuudr. The names of six prominent politicians are mentioned. It if rumo:J P. J. Sheridan ha been arrested. It is under tood the Government knows "Nunibir One" was born in the E3st Indies. His mother was French, and his father Irish. He was Captain in the British Esst India service, and afterward j lined the French army and became Colonel during the Franco German war. Toward the - dose of th war be came to Ireland with let Iera from ihe Bjnapartist, his object being to raise a force, which be enlisted ostensibly for atubuhnce service. He has served principal! under General Bouibakin. Fruic Brrne, residing at Canr.p?, is tte man rnenti med by Carey. The French po- . iioe ware communicated with to prevent bis escaping into Spain. It is thought probable he will return immediately to London and . iv the authorities an opportunity to arref-t tiim, if tbey si desire. It not arrested he will assist in hia wife'es defence. She is conauMptive. Thomn Crenuan was in London as recently as Fridtv list It Is fctated the nam. 'N':'. I" i.s Oliver Walsh, who is at Cannese Jottin Macarthy said Sheridan was known to Parnell merely as an active League organizer and his relations ?ith Parnell were only in this capacity, the latter knowing nothing ot bis character. Frank Byrr.p, Mtctrtny ssid. is a man in constant ill health. He held a position in tbe Land - Confederal ion ever ainoe Butte and Shaw. He was known to all members of the Irish party at a qniet respectable man. DnnLTw. Feb. 19 The Freeman's Journal says: "The mvstery of the Fhojnix Park marder is o:iiy half unfolded. We must wait the denouement before expreaslnga verdict. Th prospect now is the mystery will be sounded to the very bottom. Bailey, ex-Inter-nal Revenue Collector of Grand Rapids, was examined by the Legislative Investigating Committee this morning, and substantially admitted most of what preceding witnesses stated with reference to his offers of office in connection with 'Senator Ferry'a canvass, but aaid he had no direct authority from the Senator to do so. He knew from experience it was not unbecoming an officer, after his election, to carry out promises by Ki friends.
