At this statement Mr. Coal Oil Inspector began to prick np his ears, and so he inquired., "What do joa propose to do with the benHe answered that he intended to make a burning f.c-id with it "Do you not know." said Mr. Clay, ' that I there is a law in this State against the man ufactare and sale of all sorts of patent barn iceUuids? Heie is the law passed bv the i Inst legislature (handing him a copy) lou had better lead this, and when you get the rluid made you bad better bring a sample of it to me and we will test if." Here the interview ended, and in 10 days the gentleman returned with a quart bottle of the new fluid. The sample was opened and a portion poured on the floor, a match annlied. and it ignited and Mi.lcded aa soon as the match wm held within three or four inches of it.
