County Attorney Park has Instituted suit against R, II. Uodmin, ex connty treasurer, and his bondsmen, to recover t20,U00 shortage in the accounts of the ex official. The bond Is for (S00,(M, and has the signatures of 13 prominent citizens of this city and county. There are some Important legcl questions raised between the county and the bondsmen, and their solution may - materially affect the amount of money involved. As heretofore stated by your representative there are many reasons why a critical examination of the county's books should be made, and It is hoped the trial of this case will lead to It. ? V1XCKNNES. Girl Burned to Death. Special to the Sentinel: Viscehnes, Ind , Nov. 4. The nine-year-old daughter or Stephen Arney, residing six miles east of town, was fatally burned last night by her dress taking fire from the grate while she was alone In a room. A CAKKXESS BBIDGE-TKXDEK. A 1'asfccnger Train Goes Through a Bridge. Hackensack, N.J.. Nov. 4. A pasaenser train, this morning, on the New York auid Greenwood .Lake railroad, composed of one engine and one coach, ran Into ibe Hackennack river, owing to a drawbridge being open. Engineer Dexter was wounded by jumping belore the locomotive reached the edge ot the chasm. There were about 20 persons in the cuach mostly business men, living at Arlington, Mount Clair and Greenwood Lake, on their way to New York. J. D. Wood, the baggage master, was sitting on the front seat of the passenger coach, lie saw the fireman leap on the front platform of the coach, ana running to the edge jump into the river. He then ruaned out tne doorway, and seeing the front part of the engine just goiug over the draw, himself jumpe.l Into tne river. Toe particulars are not yet received. Only oue person thus far killed Ira Dexter, the engineer, aged 40, ana residing in Jersey City, with uis wlie and family. Uis neck was broken and his head crushed. The wounded known are: J. D. Woods, baggage-master, Injured internally : F. B. Tuttie, of Mount Clair, merchant in New York City, badly cnt and biuiaed; ne was taken back to faewark; Harrison, of Woodside. head cut. and he suf fered internally ; ue swallowed a quantity of salt water, which he vomited with blood ; he was also taken to Newark; John Masker, fireman, seriously strained by striking the bridire: William Stark, conductor, badly braised, but not seriously hurt; Jesse Williams, brakeman, bruised about the head, side and arms. Others suffered from drench ing and exposure of 15 or 20 minutes In the cold water. It seems that the bridge tender is accustom ed to leave the draw open all night, and did not arrive in time to close it. The train coraDrlsine an engine, tender, one passenger car, with 20 passengers, all males, approached the open draw at a rate oi about la nines an hour, The engineer not discovering the alarm sin- " nal nntil too late to stop the train, jumped on the bridge, striking his head and died in a few minutes. The others, except those previously mentioned, escaped with more nr less fearful bruises. The passenger coach floated on the water, and the passengers weie taken out through the windows and roof by men in small boats. None of. the passengeis were killed, and onlv one or two serious! v in in red They were all transferred to the Newark branch train and sent through to New York. A Revolution Surely Brewing In Mexico, Saw Frakcisco, Cat., Nov. 6. By parties who proiess to be Inside of a movement in this city it Is asserted that a very large proportion oft he population of Mexico is dissatisfied with the Government of Diaz; that this dissatisfaction has taken the shape of an organized revolutionary Government, which lnclud many of the most distinguished Mexican soldiers and politicians, and that an outbreak which will Involve several of the most imnortiut Mexican stales is imminent. An agent of the Government of restoration of the Republic of Mexico, or wnicu General Ansel Maria Carrll lode Abornoz is president, is In this city endeavoring to negotiate for material aid to further their schemes lor the overthrow of Diaz, president of Mexico. The agent invites caDitalists who are now considering the scheme to supply tho revolutionary Government with certain arms ana military supplies, in return lor wuicu thev are to ba granted 1. .Authority to organize a National Bank or Mexicothe n ies ot wnicn are to oe a legal tender for oil debts, public and private, and to be receivaole In tayment for public lands at the rale of (1 per acre, all public lands of Mexico to be set apart for in is purpose. 2. Franchise for railways and telegraphs throughout Mexico, and subsidies in bonds and National bank notes sufficient for con struction. 3. The abolition of all duties in importa tions t-f goods from the - United States Into Mexico by land. There seems io ne, no doubt, very ambi: ious meu in Mexico who are concerned in the movement, and some of the heaviest capitall-ts of the Pacific coast are reported. to be now exam I tig it with a view to engage in the enterprise if it promises success. By a private letter from a gentleman in Boston it Is learned that the same scheme has been submitted to the capitalists who own the A., T. and S. Fe railroad. These gentlemen have already sent an avent to Mex co to endeavor to obtain from Disss the same franchise, no far as ihtir company is concerned, and lulling in that it is said they promise to give the scheme their earnest atten tion. Funeral of the Late General Hooker. New Yokk, Nov. 5 Crowds of people looked upon tbe faue of General Hooker, whose remains were lying In state in the City Hall today, and soon alter noon theeofJn was closed, enveloped iu the American flag, and placed in a hearse The procession was then Jormed, the following gentlemen acting as pall bearers: Major General Hancock; Generals Newton Casey, Btillerrield, Doubleday, Mott, Graham, Sharpe, Crawford and Kidder; Vice Admiral Rowan, Hear Adml al Fienchard, John Jacob Alitor. Dr. T. M. Marker, Cnarles L Tiffany and J. H. Gautler. Nov. 6. The estimates for tho consular and diplomatic service for the next fiscal year will exceed those for the current year by about B6,0si0. The National Luth eran Monday School convention to-day discussed home and foreign missionary work and the Inauguration of steps toward a more thorough and larger field of operation. Disastrous Floods. KtsrosTOjr. Jamaica. Nov. 6. Nearly 10 lives have been lost by lloods, chiefly at the east end of the island. The Constitutional Amendments. Seven important amendments to the con stitution of Indiana have been agreed to by a majority of the members elected to each of the two Houses of tbe General Assemblies of 1877 and 1ST9, and by an act of the Inst General Assembly, approved March 10, 1S79, these said amendments are to be submitted to tbe electors of the State of Indiana for ratification or rejection at an election to be held on the first Monday in April, 1880 The law pioviding for the submission of these amendments to the electors of tbe S'.ate enacts that "the secretary of state shall procure ballots of blue paper, on each of which thall be printed the proposed amend ments, and below ech amendment shall be priDted the word 'Yes' in one line, and in another line the word Xo;' that any quali fied elector may vote lor or against any amendment by depositing one of said ballots in the ballot-box. If he intends to vote lor any amendment, .he shall leave thereunder the word 'Yes,' and erase the word 'No' by drawing a line across it, or otherwise. If he intends to vote against any amendment, tbe word 'Yes' shall in like manner be stricken out and the word 'No' left ; and if both words are allowed to remain, without either of them being so erased, tbe vote shall not be counted either way." These amendments are designated by numbers, and are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 1), numbers 7 and 8 having failed to receive a majority of votes of both branches of the last General Assembly. AMENDMENT SO. 1. Amend section 2 of article 2 so as to read as follows: Section 2. In all elections not otherwise provided for by this constitution, every male cit lzenof the L'nlled;Stales of the age of 21 years and upward, who shall have resided iu the State during the six months, and in the township 60 days, and in the ward or precinct 30 days immediately nrecedlng such election, arid every male of foreign birth, of the age of 21 years and upward, who shall have resided iu the United estates one year, and shall have resided In the State during the six months, and in the township 60 days, and in the ward or precint SO days Immediately preceding said election, and shall have declared his Intention to secome a eiU.en of the United States, conformably to toe laws of the United States on the subject of naturalization, shall beentit'ed to vote in the townsbip or precinct where he may reside, if he shall have been duly registered according to law. AMENDMENT SO. 2 simply provides for striking out the words "No nrgro or mulatto shall have tbe rli;ht of sntl'i-age," contained in section 5 of the second art icle ot the conxtitu tion . AMENDMENT BO. 3. Amend section 14 ot the second article to read: Section 14. All general elections shall be held on tbe first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, but townshlrlectlonsmay be held at such time as may be provided by law. Provided, that the General Assembly may provide by law for the election of all judges of courts of general aud appellate jurisdiction by an election to be held for such officers only, at which time no other officers shall be voted for ; and shall also provide lor the registration oi ail persons entitled to vote. AMENDMENT NO. 4 " amends by striking tbe word "white" from sections 4 and 5 of article 4, conforming the same to the constitution of the United Btates. AMENDMENT NO 5 amends the fourteenth clause oi section 22 of article 4 to read as follows: In relation to fees or salaries, except the laws may rte so mane as to graae me coin pen Button of officers in proportion to the popu lation ana tne necessary services required. AMENDMENT NO. C. Tbe following amendment is proposed to wit: Amend section 1 of the seventh article to read : Section 1. The judicial power of the State shall be vested in a supreme court, circuit courts, and such other courts as the General Assembly may establish. The words "such other courts" are substi tuted for the words, "such inferior courts.1 AMENDMENT NO. !t. No political or municipal corporation In this State shall ever become indebted.
