The usual amount of depositing and checking has deen Indulged In, and the market may be reported as moving along quietly. First -cla paper continues to be negotiated at 810 per cent. Eastern exchange Is In good demand, and market firm. The banks are baying at par, and sales across the counter are being made at 50 cents per f l,0UO. ' - How Twk Flaaatfsl Market. Railroad Securities Active : Kansas and Texas and Kansas Pacific ltues in brisk demand at advancing figures. State SecuritiesDull. The stock market is aotive, but somewhat irregular. The upward movement in Kansas Pacific was resumed, and the stock advanced 4 per cent, on the day's transactions. Union Pacific fell ofl 2 per cent., but recovered ?4 at the close. The granger shares were rather feverish, and sold down l. the latter Northwestern com mon, but in the late dealings a steadier feeliDg prevailed, and a recovery of ensued. Coal shares were strong, and advanced JsUM. but subsequently declined closing at a fractional recovery. The general list was quiet on small fluctuations. There were various reports throughout the day, in regard to tbe new coal combination, which had considerable Influence on tbe shares of anthracite roads. It i9 generally believed the ditlereni interests will be harmonized, as President Gorren Is known to be in favor of a movement to briDg about higher prices, and has'expreased himself to the effect that the Dresent depressed state of trade would soon have a tendency to create a combination of some kind. The Erie's earnings increased fTO.OW) for the first week of April.
