THE INDIANA STATE SENTINEL," WEDNESDAY MORNING. MARCH 12, 1879.
For the Sentinel. "CHAFE OH THK DOOB."
ST PAUL MCltaT.
There is crape on the palace doorBat who cares? Let the Despot go; He was a king of the land, - And at his command , Rivera of blood did flow From the wounds of his slaves, "Whom be left without graves To the wolves on the battle moor. II. There is crape on the mansion door An heiress is coffined within; 8he is shrouded in lax, And her pretty pale face Is cold is white and thin. She offered her wealth To the maid for her health ; Said the maid: "I prefer to be poor." III. There is crape on the tenement door A mother bends o'er her child ; "I am hungry," he said. But there was no bread, And the mother's heart was wild ; Her pitiful wail Told a sad, sad tale. Of death 'mong the friendless poor. FASHios sorts.
Lace moss is an elegant novelty, and wears
well.
Fashion favors lace and embroidery trim
mings. The new style of panieria called 'Camargo pn"
There are some very pretty styles in early
.spring wraps.
Bluish gray :a tie stylish color In ladies'
kid gloves.
Trimmings of all kinds are profusely used
on dresses. The "double dress"' is the latest toilet sen ntion in Paris.
Silk or chenille embroidery is used on rich
silk costumes.
The pale, fancy colors in silk gloves are
notably beautiful.
Monogram gloves and hose are among the
eccentric novelties.
Seasonable fabrics exhibit a number of
pretty innovations.
The front of the Drincess model is still
close-fitting fa effect.
Ribbons are more beautiful than they have
been for many years.
Man v of the new spring flowers are made
of silk and have no foliage.
Coat-shaped basques with vests appear on
nearly ail walking dresses.
The bonnets sent out from Paris are profusely trimmed with flowers. The most stylish hst worn just at present is the small turban or toque. The smooth-face light woolens will be greatly favored for spring wear. Lockets are suspended from the neck by satin ribbon about an inch wide. The latest dinner-cards are in the shape of horseshoe, handsomely decorated. Soft snrge and armure sllks have gay embossed flowers that look like embroidery. Trimmed skirts are the vogue for spring wear: this is quite an economical fashion. Skirt designs with scarf draperies are often arranged to cross the front like ths letter X. Breton lace is fashionable for bonnetstrings. It is tied in a'soft bow under the Chin. . Black thread-lace veils are made np into caps for elderly ladies without cutting the veils. .... The fashionable wedding-ring is a plain gold band with a diamond deeply imbadded in it, -
Spring dresses for little girls and misses
are made of the new meeaium-weignt woolen goods.
A rumor from Paris hints that mother of pearl will be used for the ornamentation of evening dresses. Mantles made of cashmere, handsomely trimmed, will be the mode street garments for society ladies. Handsome lace pocket-handkerchiefs are, by a little ingenuity, converted into very elegant dres3-caps. A novelty in stockings has a medallion of lace upon the instep, in which the owner's monogram is worked. Painted fans are fashionable, and there is quite a rage for monograms. These are, of coarse, painted to order. Paniers made of steel springs and incased in muslin or hair cloth give to the skirt drapery a handsome model. KLIUIOI7s MOTES.

Thousands suffer without Knowing the nature of this almost universal complaint. It
a an ulceration of the head . Its indications are, hawking, spitting, weak inflamed eyes, fre-
qnent soreness of the throat, dryness and heat
of the nose, matter running lrom we nead down the throat, often ringing or deafness in
the ears, loss of smell, memory impaired,
dullness and dizziness of the head, often in the
first stages, but more commonly in its advan
ced stages, attended witn pains in chest or left side, and under the sdoulder blades. Indiges
tion usually attends Catarrh ; a hacking cough
and colds are very common, some have all these symptoms, others only a part. Very little pain attends Catarrh until the liver and
the lungs are attacked in consequence of the
stream of pollution running from tbe head into
the stomach.
All persona thus affected take cold easily and have frequently a running at the nostrils; the breath sometimes reveals to all around tne corruption within, while the patient nas frequently lost all sense of smell. Tbe disease
adyances covertly, until pain in the chest,
lungs or bowels startles him; he hacks and
coughs, has dyspepsia, liver complaint, and is
urged by his doctor to take this or that; per
haps cod liver oil is prescribed. Per
fectly ridiculous! The foul ulcers In the head cannot be reached by pouring suoh stuff into
the poor, laded stomach. The patient becomes nervous, the voice is harsh and unnatural, he
feels disheartened, memory loses her power,
Judgment her zeal, gloomy forebodings hang overhead; hundreds, yes, thousands in such
circumstances, feel that to die would be a relief, and many even do cut the thread of life
to end their sorrows.
