MOSEY AND THE MARKETS. Omen or the Ittdiasapoms Sr.icrrwKL, Tuesday Evejug, Feb. 12, 178. f The local money market underwent no changes of importance to-day. A fair amount of business was transacted at the banks, and strictly gilt edge paper was negotiated at P10 percent., though In some Instances a higher and lower rate Is being pnld. Eastern exchange is in moderate demand, and sales across the counter are being made at 1-10 pxemlnra. INDIAN Alt) LIS CXSARIXQ HOUSE. Clearings Balance. Business dur.ng the week closing with this evening has been only moderate, and prices as a general rule have fluctuated but little. During tne early portion of the week the provision market became firm and active, owing to the prospect of Engl nd becomlrjg mixed up In the eastern war, but as that vanished to thin air, the market again dropped back Into the Eume old rut, and to-day It was dull and a shade easier. A fair amount of trade has been doing during the entire week In grocciles. The demand for coffee Is quit brisk; the market active with an advance iu the east, which has made thU market Btlfler, but not quotably higher. The dry goods market rules steady and firmIn reviewing the New York market for the week ending February 5 the Bulletin says: During the week under review the market has presented few new features of noteworthy Interest, and business continued light with manufacturers' agents and Jobbeis alike, leading western and southern Jobbers were rather more liberal in their purchase of cotton goods, which were shipped to a fair nggrefate from Boston and oilier points In New :ngl:ind (in order to take ad vantage of the low freights obtainable at these places), but the f:eneral demand forsprlnggoodsdrnjged beavly. and was utterly devoid of spirit. The late lull in business must be attributed in uo small degree to the prevailing uncertainty In regard to jreights, but it can not be denied thai the consumptive demand lias foiled to realize expectations in many parts of thecountry owing to the mildness of tho winteraud the wretched condition of the roads, which has compelled loboers and clothiers to carry over unusually large stocks oi winter goods, which they are anxious to reduce to the lowest jwisslble point before laying in supplies for the spring trade. Cotton Goods. There was a moderate demand on the part of western and southwestern buyers for the most staple makes of cotton f;ools, most of which were shipped by the arger bouses (having favorable freight contracts) via Boston. The best cororalton makes of cotton goods are now quoted at such low figures by agents that inferior makes are to some extent neglected, and while the former are firmly held ai-d closely sold up, the latter are somewhat Irregular in price and in relatively large supply. There was a less active movement in cottonades than at the corresponding period in former j-aiirn, and cheviots, which are In large supply, were less freely taken by the jobbing trade than could be desired, white goods were in steady demand, and liberal sale of piques ana quilt were rua-e by some of the leading agents. The exports ol domestics from this port for the week endidg February 5 reached 1,076 psckages, and from IS st on 154 packages, being a total of l,2fi0 packages. Brown Sheetings and Bhlrtlngs. There has been a fair movement in leading makes of tine and light brown shirtings, prices of which W(.e firmly maintained by agents. Heavy standard sheetings were only In moderate re-iue-t, and wide sheetings moved slowly, btocksot the best corporation koojIs are comparatively light, but outside makes are beginrun-; to accumuhte somewhat in first hands. Bit ached sheetings and Shirtings. There ha.4 bren an uneven demand fur bleached cottons, and while a few popular makes of shlriiuss were distributed y agents to a considerable aggregate, the general movement w-s unquestionably slow. Wide sheetings rule 1 quiet but the auction sale referred to above had no effect upon prices, which continued unchanged. Print Cloths. The print cloth matket has been relatively quiet daring the week ending February 2. Th sas rejorteri were "0,!JO pieces at Fall Kiver and 30,000 pieces at Provllericeat prices ranging from 8 SMm? cash to 'i,; less 1 per cent cas: and 60 days for extra 6lxMs and standards; 5x00 were very quiet at 3-ic cash nnil ;j',o ;M days. The stock on hand on the above date was as follow: Pieces. Stock on hand in Fall River km.ooo Mok on hand lu Providence. 40,W)0 (Stock on hand In Boston . 7.,W0 Total stock outside of printers 1,3!W,000 of which about 300,0ot) pieces are held by speculators. Prints The print market has been dull as a rule, but soiue lair shipments wero made by western and southwestern buyers via Bostou, from which city, as well as from other points in Massachusetts, they were enabled to obtain relatively low freights in the early part of the week. There was not, however, the least spirit in te general demand, and transactions were light iu I he aggregate, and dlsappointit g to holders. There was, however, no pressure to sell ou tne prt of agents, and prices ruled stiady at opening quotations. The Loai prints wore opened In new lljrht and medium effects at V. and Madras cloths were placed ou the market by Lenuy, Poor & Co. at 5J4C the latter prints being full sufndard. Receipts of eggs during the week have been very liberal, the matket dull and pr.ces nominal. Butter Is in fair demand and prices steady. Poultry Is quiet and unchanged. Tne corn market to day was firmer and transactions more liberal. Th-re is but little doing In flour, and quotatatiois remain s.eady and unchanged. There Is a good local milling demand re ported for wheat, and prices rule firm. SALES REPORTED.
