But for the rag baby party espousing tbe Plan's "Great American Interconvertible Irredeemab'e bond monetary system" tne bid for a bard money ring's Influence is a mistake If not dishonest. If by so doing tbey hope to pay tbe national debt In depreciated coin on account of Its demote Izatlon they are showing themselves poor financiers by not knowing thai it will at once appreciate to its former va'ue by remoneiizlng it. If they do not anticipate sucb result-, tbey show their dishonesty by advocating the payment of tbe national debt in cepreclated coin, worth less than greenbacks. Tbe labor question bas trade tbe Ohio and Misslsisi pi railroarl, ard there Is trouble there. For three months past employes bave not been paid, and yesterday there went into fefJrtCi a reduction in wages ot 25 per cnt. ior the engineers, 10 p er cent. or trie firemen, and 25 cents per day for hrakemen. A strike was inaugurated in onssq-ienc, to make which ff-c ualths strikers removed from all freight cars at Seymour the links and pins. Trains pul'ed Into tbe placo, ard before they could pall cut every link a id pin was ta ken away, rendering the lurcher progress ol the train Impossible FEARING BLOODSHED the management of the road telegraphed here last night for the militia. Extra passenger coaches were brought in from tbe line of tbe J., M. and I. and an engine was fired np to pull them out. After laying two or three bonrs at. the Jrff. depot It wss discovered ttat,. in tbe absence of Gov. Hendricks no soldiers would be ordered oat, and tte engh.e was sent to the round bous. Itqulry at tbe telegraph office developed nt, lact tbat tbere bad been no danger of a bloody riot. The men are quiet, but are parsifrtently removing and "f creting tbe links and pin", and tLe trackmen bave joined In their strike, but no violence wad apprecended. It is, how ever, probable ibattiO freigbt trains will get out o' Seymour until a force is sent tbr sufficiently stocb to prevent tbe coutinaaiiceottheBtrikera' present policy. when that Is sttea.p ed tbere will very likely be trouble. Where One of Our Younfif Men Went to Grow Up for a Few Days. COMMENTS ON COLORADO. 3ENERAL APPEARANCE OF THE COUNTRY AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES MINING INTERESTS. Special Correspondence of tbe Sentinel. Denver, Colorado, July 28, 1876 A trip to tbe R;cky Mountains is alitost as great an ' undertaking as a J urney to Lorope. we well remember bow, in boyhood days, bending over our old geography we thought of tboee m mntalts as "that mysterious bourne from which Domsrinrr tkat e er et sail bas ytt returned." L ttle did we dream that within so short a time we ourselves should climb those craggy peaks and gaze upon their majesty. Our route from tit. Louis was by tbe St. Louie, Kansas City and Northern railroad with her elegant recliuing chair coache tn Kacras City, and by tne Kansas Pacific railroad to Denver. It waour first visit tj Kansas. We were not prrpired to fee so rich and prosperous a country. We bad beard o. the drought and tbe grasshoppers until we I arned to think of Kansas with a great deal of compassion. Bat tbe more we saw of Kansas the more we pitied Indiana! Why will men stay there and grub stumps and curse roots that cost tbem forty doiars per acre wben they could come to Kansas and buy deep, r.ch land, all ready for tbe plow, aud near a great railroad, lor three cr tour dollars per acre ! For two b 'in dred and fifty milts west of Kansas City tbe Kansas PaclÖo runs through A BICH ROLLING PRAIRIE finely adapted to agricultural and grazing purposes. The soil is a deep black loam underlaid with a substratum of clay enabling it to withstand a protracied drought. We stopped off at styeril points along the route to examine tbe sail ard productions. One of these points Is Abilene, about one hundred and sixty miles west ot Kansas City. Here i Mr. T. C. Henry's famous wheat farm of two thousand acres. We saw men barvesting, threshing and plowing all in th same field. Mr. Henry lets out all his farm work: by contract, and reaps an aonusl profit of from nine to twelve dollars per acre. For example it costs blm nine d- liars per acre by contract for plowing, seeding, harvesting and threshing. Wil ier wheat is a sure crop, aud produce from twenty to thirty bushels per acre It sells for about 1105 per bushel. Tbe reader can easily stive the problem. We stopped a day at Russell, tbe county sat of Russell coontv. Oar friend Dr. Ellis kitidlT furnished us a team ana p.iog wagon and drove ns out to exam ine the land. lb s is one or tbe best counties In tne state for wbeat growing. It i rieb, rolling prairie with tsrV deep black loam, and i3 destined to support an Immense population. Mr. Henry, of Abilene, has ttcenily purchased a large tract in this county for wbet raising. The people are planting trees, and twenty years to come this region will be studded w th forests. Tbe uplands ot Kansas are better adaptfd to wbeat raising than the valleys, while the valleys are better for corn. Tbe country is raptdly filling up with sturdy Intel ligeut tarmeis wno cme to nna Domes and grow rich. And tbey will not be disappointed. No one can loretell tbe marvelous changes this country will uadergo in tbe next five years. Millions ot acres ot uncultivated prairie will be transformed into splendid farms and happy homes. It is no exaggeration to say tbat this region will spfHy become tbe great wbeat held of the Union. The Kansas Pacific road oners the most favorable terms to land buyers Treir lands are in tbe market at from two to six collars per acre, on six years time, and ten per cent, ofl lor improvements. At Hugo, tne traveler first comes in s'gnt of Pike's Peak, a hundred miles away. It loems up ilk a great black specter with its head lar ab ve tbe clouds. From Hugo on to Dauver the country is DESTITUTE OF WATER, or we bave passed tte rain belt. But an telope and prairie dogs are numerous on tbe plains, and along some small stream one sees a vast herd of cattle guarded by the ranchmen. It was a great rolief t quit this arid p:a'n and enter tbe valley oi the Platte, not far rom tbe city of Denver. Bynver is a beautiful city ; centrally located ander the mountains, in tbe plains section of the territory beg pardon Coloradolane, ye are a state now tbe city has a fine climate ati tbe year. She is tbe gate to tbe rich Ciear creek and Black Hawk mining districts, and tbe principal maiket for all tteagrlrul ural counties, from tbe streets ot Debvtrone sees a panarcmacl mountain -c-uery 100 miles lor g. Tbe snow capped peaks seem to Kits the say. iney rise np in awrai grandeur as if to remind tbe beholder of b's own littleness. With all these advantages of location, resources and scenery. Denver 19 destined to be one of tbe great inland cities of America. All tbe MINING IN COLORADO is up among the mountains, and good roads have been built to all tbe mining re gions. To tbe northwest one leads up Boulder creek, where rich mines are being worked. Directly west 19 the Clear creek canon road passing through Gold City, central Nevada, Idaho Springs, Fall River, Georgetown and Empire; wolle southwest are roads across South Park, to Hamilton, Fair Piay, Breckenrldge, and on to Del Norte and tbe San Juan country. Tbe Denver aud Rio Grande railroad is completed to El Moro aa l L Veta, and a bra oca will be pushed oat from tbe latter place to San Juan, tbe now famous sil ver district. I he mines oi uiearoreeE ana Boulder counties are very rieb, bat tbe miners have always worked with inferior and Inadequate smelting machinery. Happily this la now being remedied. I visited the rich gold mines ou Silver mountain, near Empire, and bave In my pocket a nugget of gold which a miner kindly wasotd out of a tew pans run oi earth ior me. One miner on this mountain cleared 195,000 In one year by sluice mining tnat Is, by simply washing tbe top earth. Bat tbe rich ore lies farther down In tbe iron pyrites In the veins or seams of the rock. This Iron pyrites asssys 100 to $900 per cord. Wlto such vast treasures in our mountains, specie resumption ought net to be far away. i . w. WaU LEE'S LUCK. HE LOST ON FULLERTON THROUGH A MIS UNDERSTANDING.
