A circular, Issued by a leading firm engaged in the grain trade as late as June 30, says: Tbe conriuutd improvement in the crop prospecta has had a depressing effect on tbe g ain trade, and tranac Ions in wheat have been letricted to a retail business at rather under last week's price Tie unsettled aspect of politics' ma tern in the East has, however, rendered mpo' eis Jest anxious to P'e-8 sales, and in the oaattwo day there has been an appearance of more steadiness. At tbe sams time the deliveries of E-igllh wheat have much lmlulsbed, and th area 'or tne consumption of foreign, more especially in tbl dlstric. is gradua.ly increasing. The following from the Commercial Bulletin will give dealers a correct Idea of tbe New York market at the close of the last week: Batter Receipts to-day, 6.491 pkgs. We find tbe market pretty dull throughout, and prices weak. Holders are not overburdened with sttlctly fine or choice state, and falling to obtain a fair rate on these run their stock n to store to await a better market, bat off grades are offered freely and In some cases slightly crowded, with term made pretty easy. This, however, fails to attract an increased demand, buyers refusing to operate beyond Just such parcels as may be necessary to carry them over present wants. Western still very plenty, and the market extremely heavy on all grades. The borne demand runs moderate aud indifferent, shippers are slow and holders are trying hard to work off stock, but without much success even at tne easy terms named. About 20c is talked of as tbe rate for the best, but 18c is nearer tbe actual top, and some pretty good butter can oebjught at 1516c. On state tbe extreme of the market at the close seems to be 25c, and only small peddling lots exceed this.
