THX LOCAL HON KT MAKKKT. The market continues in pretty nearly the aame condition as last week. There ia perhips an irr proved demand from merchants who are taking in new goods, but this class t business is not yet fully developed. REVIEW OF THE HOHE MARKETS. Momdat Evaamro, March L. it haa been a dnU. heavy day, the remark re ferring alike to the weather and the general business. The street markets were very quiet, and on Change there was neither a large attendance nor was muoa basin ess transacted. The prices of both train and provisions were changed and renerally nrm. some loiercsuuit "" ilven to-day In connection with the hog market in lu regular plaoe below. WEEKLY REVIEW. Taken as a whole the past week has been an Improvement npen the previous one. This is me too in reference to almost every department of trade. The wholesale baldness of Merl dlan street is not to say brlBk,ut It is In so Tlgorouh and healthy condition that the first experience of warm sunshine excites tne long dormant energlfs of proprietors and salesmen alike. The reports from the traveling men have been favorable, and they are all either bring, ing or sending in unusually liberal orders Country dealers are showing Indianapolis more favor than ever before, and probibly mm the de ermlnedettorU of our Uea.ers wdwrjeit. The stocks here are la most excellent condition, very lull and well assorted. On Vhanze the business of the week will probably aggregate as niucb.peruaps u.ore, than anyone iu ie w -tory o. the markeU The p-ovii on bas!ne.- is .ipec'ally prosperous. The attendance steadily, incrttasts troai Uay to d y. and e vrase number wno meet there daily vs but little us than oue hundred persons. TBK GRAIN TBADK. The holiday on Monday was so far obserTf d that no meellag wa held at the Uoard of Trade. Oa Taübday and.Wednesdayla large amount of eara changed bands, and oa Thursday the transactijns in the same grain were fair In volume. On Friday and Saturday there were but few order In band, and a short supply of corn to fill them If there had been. Ibe price Headtly appreciated from day to day until Thursday, and remained steady at the c!oe or the week: at to&täc. lor high mixed, free on board, and mlxtd at lyx to bJc. The trading In wheat baa been quite lliui ted. and there has been but UlUe oöered by the inerchanU. The millers report larger receipts than at any time for moatbspa?t, and they r kept lully supplied bvotleringattbe mills. The floor trade continues dull. In oats theie has been but little do- . i 1 ...sminrv o rra TV TO t n ClY inc. weeus uavo wru "ö" more freely, but as yet the activity has not Im proved prices. PROVISIONS. The trade of the week has been far above an average. In spot meats brokers are having diffi culty to supply their orders at home and are ransackinz the country to secure stuny sev eral round loti having been M from 20322c dnrln the week. Tradlns: In options was active oa Tuesday, Wednesday aca i.nnrsay, uu inur fnr thn tat two davs. Prices have ruled steady for spot meats.and except on V ednesday, when there was a rapid decline in bot h lard and por, the same may be ald as to options. The decline referred to was partly recovered, but at thftrioHBon Katurdar prices were oGic lower on both articles than on Monday. TROPUCE. The weex has been a quiet one and devoid of special features. Butter has been in ample sup ply for the wants of the market, but the price has remained steady, though hardly firm. Eggs were pleutlfat until the cold turn on Friday stopped shipments. Stocks were no light that thosufpecKion of receipts for a single day exhanstod all the supplies, and on fc-aturday a scarcity ad active demand were reported. Pri cos were not quoted higher, as dealers were uncerialn as to the weather, and are lully aware that an advanced quotation and a day or two of hue weather would overload the market. There la but little to say in reference to poulti y ; supp y and dermoid uro very evenly balanci-d: pies have been well suU:uc i. Other arUclos rect?4u bteudy as quoted. DltY OOODS. The activity displayed in this line on Monday and Tuesday is a fair indication that our predi tloa of a good trade will be verified a soon as the mercury assumes a more elevated position Buyers showed a ülspositiou totaks hold with more than usual freedom, while the anxlouj look of the Jobber Indicated an Indifference seldom exhibited on his rnrt, no doubt feeling that it would te hard to replace Roods at present selllust prices. In aUUltiou to the ruuuy oiu ana r?Uabl customers an unncal number or new ones hve visited our market thi m ason; in fact everything ruows the growing popularity of the dry Koods houses of this city, who have, with their pplrlt of enterprise and fai dealing, won the couil Jence or the trade at larse and overcome the unjust r rejuaice aga'.ust western aistrlbutluir IKints. lhe Hdvocatea of the old " iod auger " Kystem are beginning to realize that to buy a bis month's 6upply twice a year will not pau out" In competition with merchants alive to thf lr own as well as their customerss intercuts, who bny often and near home; who Keep mtirsiocu varied by continual additions of coming styits, which abeady having been once selected for their toca itles which doubles their chances or gettinsjust what their customtra want, to say not hlnz of the short space of time consumed iu fcetling tbe good boiue. We are yz lad to note tbUatateoi atntrs oetween in wuoiei.ie nu retail trade of the West, and foel assured the benefit will be mutual. The advance on most lines of goods has been fully established at iiAArirnmru-r. We have noted one cent advance on licwinton ticks during the week. 1'rlnts are held nrm by agents at V cents lor sianaaras. h.iae bands are selling more freely and will be thj thing " for prlo(i frocks, carp" warps have bet-n advanced to 2(J cents for white, and colored 33 cents, and yet tho fptnncrs are not happy. GROCERIES. The market ha been tteady during the week in all the principal giods, and the trade as a whole has been an improvement on the week preccHllng OoüVes have remained devoid or any specially new features, and dull is the word that best exnregsea the situation. Sugars are firm and tome of lhe largest refluers are oversold. They are to day nominally an j.c.nmner tnana weea ago. Fancv groceries are iu more request than a w-et fand dealers report a revival of trade which bus naturally been dull tsluoe tho bolldsys. MISCKLLANEOUS. The drug market has not been agitated by any fluctuations of moment except us to alcohol, which alternately goes up and down as tho ope rators iu whisky have more or less confidence in the pamage of the revtnue bill without fur ther amendment. The business lu blues anu pelts is improving, but there is no change In prices. Tbe fiHh trade Is opening earlier than usual. and the demand is very active. In other lines or trade there are the same general Indications of improvement, and everybody is looking forward to a prosperous season.
