The demand for money has been very light luring the past wook considerably less than for the week previous. At the same time deposits aro increasing. This condition is not, however, unexpected at -this season, the month of February being usually the dullest ol the year. A change is anticipated toward the first of March, after the spring purchases Lall have bean generally made at the Edst and goods begin to arrive. Ilinks having a fir proportion of grain and provision deelers tu cu-tomers, bad a pood run of businee last week, by reason of the active movement of those maples. Manufacturers are not ytt asking any accommodation at the banks. Tb real tsuta market, too, is very quiet, and there is - A 1 , . J . i . . Mosday EvKiaKO, Feb. E. 'Traio oa 'Change to-day opened rather Quiet, and in most lines Just held its own during the hour. Cora was notselllng solreely as on some days List week, but there was, nevertheless, an unusual business for Monday, la what and ostts there was nothing doing. Hie provitfoa ' market opened weas and declining. Operators were ouy in the early hours getting away Iheir dispatches, and preparing for a possible activity Ju the afternoon. In the venera! mftrket there was but little of special moment. COtree continue dull, and quotations are a yjc. lower. ' ugar are also wean. In dry Roods theie Is continued Qrmnes, with an advance of 1c noted In paper cambrics, and p in shlrttns! stripes. Pro- " duce remain unchanged from ttatur.tay. ( WEEXhY REVIEW, The eour.-e of ' the corn raarkct during ...the week has been In the main steady as to prices and active as to sales. -At no time preTricrus'.y, however, has business beeu transacted m quietly and with so few surface indications sa ' or the past few days. The sales for the week will aggregate fully buO cars, and all of it with tu a rango of ile to t'vc for mixed, and (Hto c fir high mixed. Tiie general movement by rail fTas been constantly heavy, and has probably . heen stimulated to a cert in extent by the low .rates of irclghui now ruling. The re-calpts for the week foot up &s,2ju bushels, aud shipments 344.KOJ bushels, of which the elevators have bandied a fair proportion. The Mock in More continues large and has been but little reduced, which hopeak confidence on the part of holders as to the future. On Tuirudiy the markrt was stronger, notwithstanding unusually heavy hog receipts at Chlcago.whlch, bythtby, have continued during the week, footing an aitrente of ce jrly 110,000 head. Tue .record of sales lualcateil a f;iir bu-ines both ia spots and options. Weluesday the market was -quiet, but tue list of transaction, principally optioD, was still larger than on the previous day. Thursday there was quite a vpurt iu prices, and holders, especially at lnteilor points, tooX p vraptadvaaiaga of tue advance to dispose of their stock, operators, too, made heavy Mi ott sates, and, withal, it w8 field day tor the brokers. Ou Friday the market was ou again somewhat and quiet. A lew spot sales of lard, mmps ana clear rib sides were reported, making a lalrdty's business. Saturday the market was quiet and but a single transaction reported. Prices were Jo advanced on ailcnt meats during the week, ana spot bird ira proved fr.im l-3n to 2o per lis) pounds. It Is probably the largest week's msicess ever reported in this market. artocEim:. The business of the week, a a whole, bas been ljshaa for the preceding ons. The principal cau to attributed was tha lnclemeucy of the weather. AstocoflToes aud sugars there were perh.ips other causes equally potent, tire market for both hi v'dä dulled considerably. morning, to which reference Is made In thejrtally review above, may Improve the tone of the market wittdn a day or two. Sugars ruled quiet all the week until Friday, when they were reported dull; on Haturday the dispatches quoted the Kastern market heavy. There is no quotable change in prices here. Yellows are in better requeii than white grades. Coat oils have advanced a cent and a half during the week, and refiners are more confident In their anticipations for the future. L'heeae Is quiet and firm at usual figures. Teas steady and unchanged. Hyrups steady, wl'h an improved trade at unchanged price. Other lines of good remain unchanged as to price, with stocks kept up In proportion to the demand. ,i DRY GOODS'. Trade for the past week has been fairly active. Buyers with a speculative turn have looked closely after staple cotton goods, and have taken them freely even at a alight advance over last week's rrle'- JU,QP a roHe1 Jsconet, as well as a few makes of bleached and brown Koods. aeenis to have convinced many that "bottom" had beeu reached, and 'that the further decline which the "weak-kneed" gymnaMa of the counter predicted is a thing of the past. We predict the coming season of 1&73 a prosperous one to merchants exerclMng a reasonable amount of caution in the management of their affairs. The outlook at headquarters is that buyers wito ready cash will pick up desirable 'atulT' at prices which will Insure them a fair profit, even on a Oranger tasls. New goods for the early spring trade are arriving daily, and dealer are putting their premises it: good order in anticipation ol an active demand m soon as the weather will permit. PKODUCE. The week opened with scarcity or poultry on hand and with the current receipt less than the local demand. This condition was the result of the break la prices of the previous week. Eggs werecomlng pretty freety and butter In abundauce. When the c lid weather aet In on Wednesday it checked the flow of everything except butter. The price of eggs advanced 'i cents per dozen and the market conttnued to Improve to the close of the wee, althouuh up to Haturday night no further advance had been fairly established. The demand lor turkeys outstripped t ha t-upplv as the week advanced, and receipts towards the close were barely sufficient to supply the local consuption, shipments being for the time suspe nded. Pretty nearly the same remarks apply a:so to other lines of poultry and as will be noted. prices are materially advanced on live and dressed turkeys, live and dressed chickens and O'l live ducks and geese. Butter remains stea-ly iu price and iu lair supply, but generally of Inferior quali'y. Dried fruit is In good demand, both applea and peachea, and command better prices. Ai the law prohibiting the killing and selling of quails Is now in force they may be couMut red us out of market. FRKJGUTS. There has been considerable lnttrcbt and a deal of buzzlug among railway agents and large shipper in reference to the freight question. The commissioners and managers met in convention at New York on Wcdnesday.and immediately relieved the Western commissioners from further duty In regulating the freight taritf. In brief, the ranch talked of Saratoga combination was "knocked higher than a kite." It la supposed that the general freight agents will meet ou Wednesday of this week, at U Louis or Chicago, to adopt a new tariff. It Is further expected that rates will be advanced It) per cent, per 1J pc und ou grain and fourth class goods. The effect will probably be a depreciation of values of grain in the West, giving to the Eastern market still further advantage. They have reaped all the benefit of the reduction iu rates, and the heavy movement eastward for the past two weeks will probably make them independent for a time, at least. THE GENERAL MARKET. In drugs there has beeu but little change In prices and a quiet market during the week. Morphine and quinine are off a trifle aad turpentine advanced. linseed oils are firmer. Hides remain at the sama figures as a week ago, and we hear nothing further from the "Association." The leather trade is t-easonably quiet. Agricultural implement are moving freely In a Wholesale way and some of the plow houses are placing heavy lines with retailers in expectation ot a lively demand irom the well-to-do graugers. I Quotations are given for the buying prices of ?riin and produce, and the selling prices for lour aad other ruerchaudlso.l DAILY RAILROAD COMMEKCE.
