There la bat little change in the situation daring the past week. Money continues plenty and easy. Deponits are increasing dailv, and the demand tor discounts, while healthy, la not excessive. Business men report that country dealers are in unusually easy circumstances, many of them preferring to pay cash for their 30 day bills, von when the discount allowed Is only one per cent. Such a state of affairs has not been Irequeut in the trade history of the Went, and perhaps was never known to such a degree as now. KKVIEW OF THE HOME MARKETS. . Monday Evening, Jan. 25. At the Board of Trade everything was very quia to-day. There was some corn changing bands at previous price. tut the Inquiry was not specially active. Theresas a small quantity of wheat sold, but the market Is lifeless. Millers claim that at the present price of flour East they can not pay above 90 to 95 cents for red wheat and get ont even ; and further, that It will not pay to ship wheat at above that figure. Holders of that grain, however, de mand 10 cento more than above figures and as a consequence the only rales are to millers for supplying local trade There was nothing domain oats. The production of mill feed 1j hardly quäl to home demand and prices are well sustained. Timothy and clover sc'eds are bp Hing in a small way only. The provision market was steady and unchanged, in the giocery and dry foods markets there is nothing new to note. In produce there i continued dullness in dre&sed turkeys, and eggs are quoted 2 cents lower today. Dullness has been the prevailing feature at the Board of Trade so far as the grain trade is oonoerned. The only trading of consequence was in corn, and transactions in that were unusually Limited The fluctuations were but trifling, ranging from 61 to 5 cento, in eleTaMr, for mixed and high mixed. Much of the time there has been but little difference In price es between the two grades, the bulk of orders coming from Baltimore, which demands a larger fro port ion of the former. There has been iioblng doing in oats during the week. The wheat market has also been remarkably quiet. The demand for flour has been so 'limited and the range of prices so low that millers have not felt Justified In running except to fill actual orders. Ferconequence the local Inquiry for wheat is but little. It Is probable that a dozen to twenty cars would cover the purchases for the week. There Is comparatively nodemaud from abroad, PROVISIONS. The market has been depressed nearly the whole week and until Sat-.May there was uot -even a temporary Improvement. The heavy receipts of hogs of the previous week was apparently the Influence which weakened the market at the outset. An accumulation of over 60 JX.9 -at Chicago beyond any legitimate demand and the apparent indifference of packers to purchase even at a decline gave to the Chicago markets decidedly panicky feeling early in the week. There was, however, no serious break and but a trifling decline in all. Operators here, and the number Is rapidly Increasing, were on the .anxious seat during the first days of the week and the wire was in constant requisition, but .from the cheerful coantenances since Thursday it is fair to presume that they were not heavy losers, if, indeed, they did not profit considerably from their ventures. Oa Saturdav there was .a decided improvement In the tone of the market. There has but little spot meat or lard sold during the week. Packers have their minds freely made np to wait for the better prices anticipated by and by. GROCERIES. Trade in this line has been Just fair during the week. There has scarcely been a change in the price ot anything not enough in any article to take It outside the range of quotations current at aate of last review. The coffee market is firm and steady; arrivals in port are not large, but are fully proportionate to the unusually light demand. Hagar show an upwaid tendenoy. The reflnerie which we noted last weels as temporarilyclosed to clean up are running again. Tcerehas been since the first of January a uecided disposition on the part of dealers to show iwriai favnn to the better class of customers. Home transactions have "een almost equivalent f "cuts," sales being made at prices below the regular market. Parties who have bought stock when the price was low have chosen to give their customers the benefit rather than themHelve. lOOaCCO ua nut uuiiutpi lumcimii;, but there is a decidedly upward tendency, and from 3 to & cents will De au. lea aiier r eorury i Coal oils are firm, but not further advanced. DRY GOODS, ETC. Easiness ha5 been better than for the previous week and ha', amounted to a good week's trade for the peaj-.ni . In fancy goods and notions there U no special activity, although there is but little complaint. Other lines of trade have Krr.nhlv active and therein but little .mn!ir.t. Collections are bo satisfactory and country trders are so favorably Utoa'td as 13 nnar ccs that there is a giowlng uispo-aiion to t vol ii m a nf tales, and it it probable that heavier f-prtng blocks wi 1 bo laid in this 8e&on than las. PRODUCE. There has cot been much change Inanyar ttcles ol produce during the "week, except in
dressed turkeys. The excessive supply noted last week has been reinforced almost as last aa
it could be worked off and prices have gradually receded for all kinds, and more particularly tor luca aa aro out suiutoie ior suipmvni rjuii, better is in abundant supply and the propor tion of Infer, or to choice is far too large. Lower prices are likely to role during the next week. Eggs are equal in supply to the demand and we note a reduction In price of 2 cents per dozen. Receipts are heaviest from the South. The de mand for hides haa fallen off materially and Dries f crreen salted have declined nearly 1 per cent per pound. Tanners are full stocked to last them through the grub season until June and axe no longer tree buyers. f Quotations are given for the buying prices of rnun ana proauce, ana me selling prices xor nour and omer mercnandise.1 DAILY RAILROAD COMMERCE.
