FINANCE AND BUSINESS.
(iKNERAL MARKET REVIMW. MONET MATTERS. In this city there is uo question that money is hard to be obtained in the ordinary ' linf ot business. It w about rji hard to keep up a legitimate business as it was twelve months ago in the height of the panic. Yet there U not that fear and apprehension, for it is known business activity must grow and ttiai the land teems with abundance cf the reoariea of wealth. In Chicago, the Inter-Ocean says: Business generally seems to have diminished. This is indicated by the smaller amount of clearing? this week than lt. The decrease of business at this time in tbe fall, just before the pork packing bepn, i the usual experience. The tall trade in Chicago Menu to have been satisfactory to tbe great majority of merchants, and thonsh the averago ofprofits has been small tbe volume oi legitimate mercantile business in tbe month closing to-nigbt has been greater than in any previous October. There is also reason to expert that the winter business will be an equally favorable compariSOD with former years. - Tbe San Francisco Alta oi the 22d says: Tbe shipment of treasure this week has beeu 9 fallows:

REVIEW OF TIIE HOME MARKETS
WEEKLY REVIEW or THE INDIANAPOLIS
WHOLESALE MARKETS. . Motat Evasiuo, November 2.
There was a better feeUng in grain, prices In
Chicago being reported firmer. Reports from
IJverpool continue favorable and it Is not out
side of possibilities that the stock of American breadathfls may be turned to a reasonable
eaulvalent In cash vet before spring. Provisions
were a little weak, but only from transient causes, the price of hogs belog well maintained
at about 6 cents advance. Yesterday the firm of
Coffin, Wheat, Fletcher Jfc Co. begun killing hogs. They will slaughter from 1,200 to 1,500 dailv from this time on till the close of the
season. In dry goods there Is a fair and steady
trade with prices unchanged. The hint of cold weather last week gave woolen goods a start, and as soon as the mercury goes down this class of Eoo Js will move actively. There has been a
good average trade In groceries since the last review of the weekly market. Collections have been no freer, but as hogs are beginning to move and corn and wheal are bringing better prices there Is a hopeful Indication of a loosening up
In country nnances berore a great while, sugars have remained weak and close at a stand of
lOVte for atrndard A's Fast. The decline has
been by eights and quarters and slow at that, so
that the trade has not felt the change as 11 the decline had been a sudden one. Tee demand is
eood for the season and stocks are well assorted
Coffees remain Arm with a tendency upward
and lizht stocks in first hands East. Prices
rane from 21 to 25c for fair to choice grades
The low grades roasting are unfit for .the retail trade lu their green 8tte and go into consumption as roasted coffee through the spice mills. Htarch firm. Oats unchanged. Byrups and rioe quiet and dull, lirown firm at the recent rise. Babbit's soap has advanced lc per pound at the
factory ana an soaps are somewnat uiguer, ma terial belnz so expensive.
