CORN AND HOGS. 0T.-TI.O01C FOR THE OOMIKO CROP. Messrs. Henry Mil ward & Co.i of Chicago, have issusd their annual report of the outlook tor the pre sent crop of corn and hogs. In answer to their letters of inquiry, directed to well informed gentlemen throughout the various States, they have received replies from 214 points located in Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri. Ohio and Indiana, these being the great corn and hog producing States. The report seems to confirm opinions previously published, indicating a decrease In hogs and a fair crop of corn. We think there Is not the slightest doubt as to there being fewer hog in the country than at the corresponding time last season. In almost all sections of the country hogs are reported in poor condition, owing to the scarcity ot old corn with which to feed them, and the general appearance ot those now coming are certainly corroborative of these statements. The return of the Registrar General for Ireland, shows au increase of 52,000 hogs over last year, and the number in England is estimated to be fully equal.u that of last seaaon. From Canada we hear that there will be a slight falling oft" in the number. "The coru crop, we think, will l c a lair one, but as there s verly littla ol la-t year's corn now on hand, and us ibo market prica is luliv 100 per cent, higher than in 1S73, . it is more than probable that the farmers will sell their hogs early in the season in order to realize on their corn to better advantage. The approaching packing season is toe tul--Wt ot oj'tch speculation. This year, however, we shall commence packing at much higher rates, and as the couritry is bare of htock, the new packing will doubtless be largely drawn upon to supply the immediate necessities of the trade; but we ibink the experience of the rast has shown . conclusively that only low prices will Induce a constant and healthy , demand throughout the entire winier andjeaveys with model ate stocks at the Kd ol the packing season. Summer cor"inghas leeü extensively carried on lit the west this season, and the product has generally given satisfaction, Owiug to the high prices of winter meats which have been current of la'te, the Southern trade has taken the ice cured to a large extent. From the recent speech ol the Hon. George II. Fcndleton, delivered at Lima, O., the following closing extract is taken: But after a.l, gentlemen, the matter of greatest concprn in the republican government is the honest and faithful administration of the offices. A bad system with honest men is better than a good system with dishonest men. I know the republican party claims daily and loudly that it has purified itself ; and the congressional address says that in five years it has discovered and punished iu its own ranks more villain? and corruption than any and all parties since the foundation of the government. What a boast! The corruption must have been there before it could be exnurcated, aud if so much has been ejected, and yet so very much more remain, what a loulmass of putridity it must have been! But las it so cleansed itself? Congress expelled Oakes Amos, and he received an ovation from his constituents. fSpcakor Blaine appointed chairmen of fiveot the most important committees from men tainted with the credit mobilicr. Bingham was Dent minister to Japan. GarfiXd is nominated from tbe noitheastern distri.-t Pr30n9 is nominated from the Cleveland district. Shepherd . was nouiinatod by the . president as commisaioner of the District of Columbia, . which ns governor and commissioner ot public works he had despoiled. Williams still rides in his landaulet, or perchance has a new one.. Read the sickening exposure made by tho check book of Gov. Kellog?, the moneys paid to Carpenter and Butler and Chandler and Billings, and then deny, it you honestly can, that on the breasts of tbe representatives of the republican party there is branded the word corrupt in characters more vivid and truthful than the scarlet letters which glowed on the bosom ot Hester Prynne. JCheera. Gentlemen, il any fair minded republican is here, I api jl to him. Is not tho sense of diirnity, and even decency i,n public life greatly loweredT Are not faces valued for their power and emoluments? Are thev not considered the fitting reward of personal service or Hattcry or monev? Is not tho public sAnse outraged by the president when he deserts the capital and spends months at the sea shore? Is not the public law outraged when tho president performs official ac;s at Long Branch, which, bv law, nhoul 1 bo performed at Washington? ("That's so!'?) I make 110 eulogy on the democratic party. Its bi-tory speaks for itsell. Its acts for sixty years commend it. And now, chastened by defeat, purified by experience, imbued with new vigor, with yet purer patriotism and lollier purpose, it comes forth again vindicating its principles, asserting tbe honesty, of its organization, ani asking your suffrages that it may, by still greater beneficence, add to tbe luster of its im perishable fame. Cheers. Fellowcitizens, may I speak one word of myself without egotism? I believo you will bear witness that I have always been a zealous and faithful servant of the democratic party; that I have undei stood its principles and faithfully maintained them; that I havo not unduly aspired to leadershipor attempted to dictate its proiession of laith. To make a creed has been heretofore reserved lor the high powers of the college of apostles, or the councils of the church, or the convention of the party, or the commanding genius of Jefferson. That day has passed, anJ now the people make and enforce creeds. I never dreamed of aspiring so Li2.h, and yet some republican orators and newspapers, and notably one democratic paper, nave done me the honor to call the opinion which I entertain, in common with tbe democratic party of Ohio, by the name of Pendletonism. They honor nie overmuch; they tax my modesty. Lest through misapprehension or indifference they may mistake it, let me tell them what Pendletonism ls. it is obedience to tbe constitution and the laws cheers'); equality betöre the ' law and faithful administration of tbe law; the largest liberty consistent with public order; equal and exact justice to all men ; honesty and fidelity in every office; reform wherever there is abuse; no sumptuary laws; taxation only for revenue; subject to revenue, free trade; gold and silver the basis of the currency; and specie payments to be reached as soon as indnmry will permit; honest payment of all debts and a sacred preservation of tbe public faith; simple government; home rnie; State rights; small expenditure; low taxation ; land1 to actual settlers;' homestead ' exemptions, and a he:trt which can always leel Ior the similes and sufferings of labor, and vnuld Rospe every policy as far as possible toreiieve it from the.burder.s which oppress it. Loud and enthusiastic cheera,. This is Pendletonism. I believe it is democracy. Cries of "it I, it is." It is that democracy which has carried this year New Hampshire aud Oregon and Nortii Cat. lina and Colorado and Dakato and Wyomine. and now does battle for Ohio and Indian and Pennsylvania and New York, and which iu God's own good time will rescue the federal government from the band of the spoiler and drive corruption and dishonor from the high places vf power. Tumultuous applause. Men of Ohio, d your duty now, and the battle will be won. ATTENTION PRINTERS. Use the Celebrated I XL ROLLER COMPOSITION, Price S3 centsper lb.
