TUB MYSTERY OF KASPAR HÄUSER. a Ka?pcr(orGaspar) Häuser, a mysterious 1kv, was found bv a citizen in the streets of Nuremberg in 1SJ8, utterly destitute of all the common sentiments and attainments which distinguish humanity from simple animal life. He was almost utterly unacquainted with speech, but, when asked h's name, wrote in fair characters " Kqar Hauler." lie lre in his hand a letter addressed to aa othcor of the girrison, saying that flu bearer was born in 1812. and that his father had Keen in the military service of ilivaria, in the s nie regiment as the olUoer addressed. On being relieved by public charity and instructed by a professor of Nuremberg, he was, through the influence of Lord Stanhope, placed in a subordinate position in a bureau- of the Court of Anspach. JJere his assassination was repeatedly attempted by persons to whose Identity there was no clue attainable. Finally a person with whose features he was not lamiliar came to him. ani, under pretense of a message from bis English benefactor, Lord Stan hope, deeovel him into an unlreqacn:pdplace, and then stabbed him in the nidö. n.sper escaped, and. though weak lroin trie loss ef blood, was able to relate the story of the attack lie died the next day, and his murderer was never discovered. Tnis hoy dim recollections Of his life, which, from bis subsequent relations, was passed irom infancy till sixteenth year in a cave or cellar almost Yoi(fof light, fed and tended at lorg intervals by a person whose face h never saw, who spoke to him only in the ti-rsess terms, and who finally, just before releasing him, taught him to write the name by which he was afterward known, have formed, with speculations on his parentage and estate, .and philosophical deductions from the tendencies ol his mind, brought thus late under cultivation, th9 themes of several volumes by some of the ablest pens oMJemrany, and' were lift v years ago an auimraoie tneme tor a standard newspaper sensation, only that at that date the popular newspaer had not lieen created, but waited for American enterprise. THE AMERICAN BOURBON. When the people of France, stung to des peration by long and ciuel wrong under the monarchy, which for NX) vears had en slaved and humiliated them, in 17JKdeiosf d and put to death their sovereign, Louis XVI, and his queen, the beautiful Austrian, .Maria Antoinette, they left alive the Dauphin, Charles Lewis, a'bov eight veara old. Him the reigning republicans consigned to the cruel care of one Simnn, the cobbler. Him the rovalUts proclaimed king as Louis X II. Simon's care made tho bov an im lecile, almost an idiot. He was grievously alllieted with scrofulous sores in his lees, especially about the knees. This boy ws an elephant in the bands of the chosen democratic leaders of the Fronen jsjaple. He had done naught to merit death, and though the fierce democracie'' were not scrupulous iu regard to taking oft heads of men who wt re or might le ia the way, it i3 quite easy to understand that they scrupltd at shedding the blood of this innocent who played with straws. Si III be was in the way. He was equally worthhss rubbish among the properties of the royalist ad br rents. A child, and especially an idiot child, hs king, would fcave necessitated a rengency. This is a poor resource at auy time; doubly so when royalty is exchulad from the throne and must'waic an j fight for i's ciown. Rjbetpierre fell and his minion Sim .n lost Irs be.-iJ. In 17!)4 the convention decreed that the committee of povern-m-nit should "find mean) of sending the son of Louis out of th9 republic." But he was sick. It can readily be supposed there was an agreement nude between the two hostile factions, to both of whom he was an eyesore, to relievo themselves of Lis presence. On the l:hof Juno, 175, it wa3 reported t' the convention that Lo was dead, acd three surgeons tc?tind that he was the victim of scrofula. He was no more in the way of Louis XVI11 and the royal igt, and his ca-:o no further troubled tho republican

All the other children of the family, 11 in number, had distinctly marked Indian characteristics, like their mother, a full-blooded Iroquois. The other, Eleazer, had the face and figure of a European. In about 17W, when THE IDIOT BOY was called 14 years old, he tell from a high rock into tho water, was rescued Insensible, and after some time resumed animation. From that time he was no longer an idiot. lie was sent with his brother John to school at Long Meadow, Mass., with a MrN
Ely, w hose books show that the bills of Eleazer Williams were promptly and regularly paid, while those of John Williams, his reputed brother, were not. Eleazer was still at his studies at tbe breaking out of the war of 1S12, when be was 27 year old. He was then, by the concurrent authorities of tbe national and State governments, made superintendent general of the Northern Indian Department, took up arms, joined in the battle of IMattsbarg and others, and was wounded. He continued for several yeais to occupy conndential relations between the government and the Indians, by w t orn he was recognized as one of their number. In li he was ordnined as a clergyman of the Episcopal Church. He resided at intervals w itü the Iroquois, about Green Bay. W is., and with the St. Eegis band in the northern part of New York. In 1S41 he met the Prince ue Jcunvllle, son ol Ix)uis Phillippe. A tcr long conversation with the supitosed Indlar, the prince announced to him that insteaa 01 oeing tne son 01 me half-breed Thomas Williams, he was Louis XVII, of France, the supposed dead idiot liovof Louis XVI. After this communication tbe Prince, who had sought Williams from the time of his landing at New York, placed before him an elaborately engrossed parchment and written in parallel columns, in trench and English, over tne seal ol Louis XVI, wherein tha Dauphin, Louis XVII, was to abdicate and relinquish in favor ot tbe then reigning sovereign. Louis Phillippe, his right and title to the throne of France; and in consideration of which relinquishment, thy King was to provide the Dauphin with a princely establishment, either in Europe or America, as he should choose. Tnis document, evidently prepared at Paris, the Prince asked Williams to sign, as Charles Louis, the dead Dauphin, whose death in tbe temple at Paris was lelieved to have occurred nearly fifty years before. lie refused. A CANADIAN CASE. Hanmh White, a spinster, resided in the family of her brother, at Sand wich, Canada, near Detroit, in 1S"-1. In the family were a little boy, Joseph, three and a halt years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. White, and Sarah Jane Sladden. 10 years old, daughter of Mrs. White by a former husband, a retired East India eci captain. Mrs White one day went to I6troit for marketing. During her ab sence the sister-in-law, Hannah White, disappeared, and with her the two children. The mother advertised exte nsively and traveled far and near, Fearching in vain tor four years for her lost darlings. No reason could be imagined as influencing Miss White to carry oil' tho children, unless it was an envious, spiteful revenge against her sister-in-law, or the hope to get posset sion of a legacy telonging to the little girl from a relative of her father in England. Seven years later Mrs. White discovered that Hannah, who bad been married at Badaxe, Wi., was residing in Detroit, having the boy Joseph with her. After sharply contested leual proceedings the mother got possession j of the boy, but could get no Infor-! mat-on as to the whereabjuts of the girl. In 1&52, White, the grandfather ot tli a boy and father of Hannah, came to the house of the mother, and alter expressions of contrition for the aid he had given Hannah in Ferreting the children, was received into tbe family. lie soon after tried to abduct tbe boy the second time, but failed, acd joined Hannah in Droit, where she was tuen living, having attained a prominent positing in a leading church, from which she was subsequent expelled as an arrant hyjocrit. In lx, some further information came to tho mo'hcr of her longlost daughter, who, during an interval ot thirteen years, had grown to woman's estate and on account ot the ill treatment she re ceived from her aunt had been forced to take ervic In the family ef a farmer at Liberty Pole, Wis. THE LAST G I FT CONCKliT P0S1T0N ED. i The announcement of the postponement of the last gilt concert or the l'nbllo Library of Kentncky will not surprise the public. In Gov. Bramlette'a card, published below, he g ves reasons for it which will be accepted without Question by every one. The management in this Instance, consulting ' the Interests of ticket ho'ders, and those designing to become ticket holders, have not waited nutil the last day to make this announcement but, Just as soon as they became satisfied of tbe necessity of this postponement, have promptly made the announcement. It is unnecessary to review the causes which have necessitated this action, as they are fully recited in Gov. Bramlette'a card. The promptnes and frankness with which the public have be :n made aware of the intention of the manager will meet with the hearty commtndatlon of every ont, and excite such a new interest and confidence In the scheme and tbe ability of the manager to perform what he promises, that there can be no doubt that on the day 6peciCcd the last conceit will be a fall one. 10ST1'0-EMKST LAST GIFT COXtKIlT A CAKI) TO THE PCBLIC. The announcement of the postponement of the filth and last concert of fo Public Library of Kentucky to the 30th of November, I am. satisfied,, will surprise few and disappoint none of the friends and patrons of the enterpr.se. Indeed, any other course would create dissatisfaction. With a precedent of a postponement of each of the four concerts which 'have already been given, the public have very naturally and reasonably expected that In tnis, by far the argest scheme of the eerie?, and the largest ever oSfsred to the worla, the same court e would be followed, and there are thousands all over tbe country who are only waiting for the setting of a certain fixed day for the drawing before sending in tbelr orders. The sales of tickets to this date have been highly satisfactory, and a large drawing might be had on the 31st of July, but, feeling assured that a short postponement would enable us to cloe out the remalader of the tickets, and make the drawing a full one, we nave adopted tha course which has evidently been antlcipated, and which mast eventuate mc st satisfactorily for all. Now that the day of the drawing Is absolutely determined, there regains no further occasion for delay, and I would urgs the friends of the enterprize, who Intend to purchase tickets, tc send in their orders, as it will tax my ofliee to Its utmost capacity to accomplish all that is to be dor.e in tha short time which remains for the sal3 of tickets.
