GENERAL MARKET REVIEW. 1 he Journal of Commerce deduces from the reoorts of the comptrollej of the curren cy that the add' tional circulation has been distributed among 671 banks in thirty different states, 116,000,000 among bapks organized prior to July, 1870, and $33,000,000 to banks organized since that time. Applications re: -ceived for the organization of national banks 670, representing about 40,000,000 capital. Of these 170, representing 112,000,000 of capital, were granted, feat the applicants never completed their organizations. Eighty-three applications, representing f6.000.000, - were filed for future consideration, and 20S appli cations, which stated neither the amount of capital nor ol circulation are at present on file. - Within the year following the passage of the act an amount of circulation had oeen assigned to Ohio, Indiana, Kansas and other states which bad so far exhausted the apportionment that it became his duty to decline many applicants from these states and to give preference to other states which li&i ft greater deficiency, as required by law. The act reauired new apportionment of f54, 00,000 on the basis of the census of 1870 but the census of 1870, but the census returns were not received until late in the summer of 1872, and many applications were deferred until the apportionment csuld be made. Previous to November, 1872 the entire amount of circulation had been assigned, -and additional applications could not be granted except upon the failure ot parties to whom the privilege had been given to perfect their organizations within six months. Of the fö4,000,000 authorized by the svetof -July 12, 1870, 24,773,260 had been Lowed on "November. 4, 1871, l'i.isO.MO during the -year endi- November 1, 1872, $7.357.479 'in th. v ear endin g November l,1873,leaving at that date tt.649,051 unissued, aud the compIfolleVgive; it 'as his opinion that the whole tf the remaining circulation would have been issued during that year except lor the Soaetary crisis ?! 187?.-.Ewa if the whole amount of oirculaUon bad , oeen isp--oa, n WoUld ttoth&ve been in. bis power without supplementary legislation ; to withdraw the fclrcfratlon from the slates In excess in time to supply the ' demands . h-om - th states which were deficient. He calls attention to the bill now pending git jng him , the necaary authority for auch rertistrihotion,Says the Boston Globe: Chinese merchant now contemplates Lis pile of American trade-dollars with satisfaction. The Chinese commercial mint has fonnd this new trade-dollar to be full worth its face, and, like the Mexican dollar, it is being rapidly absorbed, to disappear from the United States, totally and absolutely. The American piece made ita appearance in the Chines hongs almost unheralded; its bright, finished look operated as a good introduction; it has proved the "open sesame" to Chinese storehouses. But now the British government, we are told, comes forward and says that it is disposed to go into the tradedollar business itself, and a demand goes heme lrom Hong Kong for a coinage of that description. It is galliag that an American token should be the circulating medium in an English colony. So we are likely to have competition in the trade-dollar business. BCTTKR THK WESTERS PRODUCT. The market for daily products for the past week has shown a slight tendency to a n c.imn frnm the strength of two or three ojniF weeks, when the supply of theold crop of . both butter and cheese had become generally exhausted, and the new was ln...fwniont tn meet the current wants of the trsrtA. Althouzh there is Dut very little If any surplus as yet over thea current .wants, yet there Is a general disposition on th part .,r .id in hnth butter and cheese to "mar ket their receipts closely. ruption until the full volume of the June make shall press upon the market. The tendency, therefore, la now downward lowly , steadily and naturally, to a point) a which the summer make oi western can do moved into home or export consumption and the basis reached upon which the whole cron will becin to be handled ana irom which no farther decline is likelv to be seen From this time forward, as noted in dui last, western will begin and continue to con trol the market until the supply shall be insufficient for the demand, ard tat must take a secondary place until such time shall arrive, except so far as the fall trade is concerned, it being controlled by supplies with slat and near-by make pnn cipally. Yet even this trade, which la regarded as wholly secured for ata'e butter, is finding out the fallacy ot the old prejudice, that nothinar srood could come out of the west. Last season there were Michigan creameries sold . in pails the whole season onthia market at the the full price of Orango county pails, and there will be more or them this year. But still the bulk ot this supply must come from this state for the present. As to state tubs, both half firkins and elsb ther are already settlinr down to the prices of western, and it is doubtful if there will be much difference in . tn prices, untn tue weather becomes so warm as to operate in favor of those sections nearest marke N Y, Bulletin. , I J i ... .. . Western maykts generally break, and shipments are direct ed East ; receipts are increasing dally and the maTKet n decidedly in tne ouyer s xavor, no oifer being refused by dealers at the present time, as every houralmost brings a decline in prices; no doubt shippers and dealers in the country will experience the same difficulty in fighting prices down, as they always do In the spring of the year; we advise them to get prices down as speedily as posslole In the country, in order to avoid heavy losses, which certainly will befall some one soon. Buyers are very particular, and have many objections as to quality ; the cry is for "grass" butter, but as the season la nosually late, very little or none has yet been on on the market, ' Koos Are quote at. 10U 15 17 10( 14 2 00 .160 25 7 10( 12 - 60 . ; 4o ' Büttbä rr.me miimauk Puor.whllemmi BE a its Prime Navy. ..
