Who is" Daniel Webster? The National Democrat contains the following palpable bit at the Whigs for their treatment of Daniel Webster. They seem to think, because Webster don't swallow Scott at a gulp, and .allow his own onoe brilliant star to become a satellite to revolve round the luminary which be named " Feathers and Tar," that the God-like is no great shakes anyhow. Says the D- ocrat: " Who is General Pierce? Th:s 'he question asked by the Whigs when Pinrce was nominated for the Presidency, and we preseroe because he was nominated. On the same ground it now applies to Webster, who is
in the belu as a candidate, and can't help it n ne woum. This will ruin him in the estimation of Scottiies. He I will not be half as great a man as be has been. His J logic, style, and statesmanship will fall below par. His oratory and letter writing will not compare with Scott's! Who is Daniel Webster, forsooth? He's not even a corCral. He never "fit" battles. He never ' nt " duels, bbed, or dodged. He never quarrelled wi'h granny Trist. He never did anything but make speeches, and they are poor things- now that he don't help the Whig party worthless old creature, that same Daniel isn t be Scottitest" Fatal Casualty. The reception of Gen. Scott, yesterday, was attended with one of the melancholy events too often occurring on such occasions. A man named Henry Feller, attached to the cannon and acting as gunner, was so badly injured by a premature discharge, that he died in a short lime after the accident. His left arm was rent from the socket, and bis side and face ?tremly mangled. Mr. Fellers was a blacksmith, of excellent character, having a wife and family of helpless children dependent on him for raiment and daily food. Another man, whose name we have not learned, was also much hurt, but we are glad to learn thero are prospects for bis recovery. Onto Statetman fair Important Renunciation oi Whiggcry. James Lyons, Esq., of Richmond, V., has come out in a long letter, giving the reasons why he cannot siport Gen-Scott. Mr. Lons has frequently served m the Virginia Legislature, and is one of the most talented mm in the State. He stands among the first members i of the VirgjBia bar. He has served as chairman of the Whig Central Committee of Virginia for a great many rears, and in that capaetiy, as well as a popular speaker, has done more hard work for his party than any man in the State. His. abandonment of Gen. Scott must have great effect, not only in Virginia, but throughout the South. A Ji. Ledger. ERYSIPELS AND SALT RHEUM CAX BE CURED Mrs Giles Turner, of Montville who had been sJLcted with Erysipelas for the last Twenty Years, and three times within the last five years, has been entirely Blind from the eflecu of this dreadful malady. CURE EFFECTED BY DR WEAVER'S SYRUP. AFTER AU. OTHER TRIED MEDICINES HAD FAILED READ THB CMC TIFICA TIP Mont viixK, March 5. 1961 . Messrs. 8. A. Wearer & Co., Gentlemen: In relation to say wile, 1 would say that from childhod she has been afflicted with s Humor. About twenty years since it appeared in a rery rtiwi iissaag form of Erysipelas, at first in a spot of a bright cherry color on the . I side of the face, accompanied with a painful sensation, similar Is j that produced by fire. From this point it spread over the whole race, which oecame so sw. i.en taal lor several days sbe was entirely BLIND, and so disfigured that her most intimate acquaintances did not recsfiuxe her. She had been in this sanation three times ia the last five years. Iu effects sometime appeared in small cracks in the akin, commencing back of the ears, thence extending over the sides of ihe head. So .re and painful were they, that at nigt . it was impossible for her to allow them to touch the pillow. Th. discharge fiom these sores was so profuse thai it frequently we. through the dressings and run down the sides of the neck, and s acrid was n. that wbeu it came in contact with the skin, the effect was the same at that of boiling water After any gentle exercise, especially in warm weather, parts est the body became covered with spots of a dark red or purple color. This would be a lonr time in healing frequemly months. At one tune it appeared on the feet and ankles, running mach the same course as it had done on the other parts of her body, except that in this instance it was aggravated by exercise. These sores, moreover, assumed the character of bad ulcers, and to inflamed, that for mouths sne was unable to walk. The deep scars left by them remain to this day It has affected her breast to that degree that she was enable to nurse either of her last three children Often she hat been in auch distress from this disease, that for weeks she hat been able la obtain but little sleep or rest, and has often said that her distress was so great she could not describe it. At the tune she commenced using your Syrup and Cerate, the had a running sore on her stomach and breast, which had bacn there more than a year, healing up at timet perhaps in one place, but always breaking out in another. To this we applied many remedies, and used various kinds of medicines for removing ihe disease from the system, none of which produced ihe ieast apparent benefit. Sbe commenced using your Syrup and Cerate a year ago last fall. Sbe took the S rup a few days and then commenced applying the Cerate lo the sores, sind al once said she had never (bund anything so soothing as this was. I have frequently known ber to get up several times in the course of a night lo apply the Cerate lo her feet, in order to obtain sleep. In one or two weeks after uing the medicines the aores began to heal, and before the had finished ihe second bottle, they were entirely well. She has now used four bottles, and it to all appearance perfectly cured, and it in better health alto than the has been at any time before for twenty years The medicine has effected in her case the most wonderful cure ever known in our section of country, and I strongly recommend al. afflict d in like manner to give it a trial. Any one desiring further information in relation to the facts or particulars of the ease, ii will afford ma great pleasure to give any such information, if they will call at my residenee in Montville, or they ran make inquiries of many of my acquaintances in New London and vicinity, who are conversant with them.
