Concord, (N. H.) Aug. 13, 1852. Dear Sir Understanding that an impression has obtained in Wisconsin to a considerable extont, and especially among that portion of your people that arc Catholics, that General Franklin Pierce, of this State, was unfriendly to Catholics as a religious sect, and that an attempt has been made to hold him responsible for the odious religious test contained in the constitution of this State, the undersigned, Catholic citizens of Concord, deem it our duty to say that the Catholics of this State and of New England, and especially that portion of them that are of bis political opinions, entertain for him the highest respect as a politician and a man. Especially do they feel under great obligation to him lor his iiowerfui efforts in the convention to expunge that odious te-t" from the constitution of New Hampshire, ami for his efforts before rlie people to have the amendment to the constitution adopted which provided for the striking out of the religions test. Any impression of the kind indicated sloM (Jen. Pierce great injustice, and we regret hat for partisan purposes he has been thus misrepresent "J We send this to you. not for electioneering or partisan purposes, but as a simple act af justice to one of the strongest opponents the odious "test" ha3 in New Hampshire, and to ono of the most liberal and tolerant of its citizens. We have been present in several meetings, and at in last town meeting when this proposed amendment was submitted I the people, and have heard Gen. Pierce address the p pie in favor of abolishing this "test," and any representation that he is opposed tu striking out that ' lest," or that ho has not exerted himself to have that test abolished, must proceed either from profound ignorance, or malicious misrepresentation of the man, his character and course in relation to this "test" uucstinn.

The true Digestive Fluid, or Gastric Juice PREPARED from Rennet, or the fourth Stomach of ihe Ox, alter directions of Baron Liabig, the great Physiological Chemist, by J S Houghton, M. D , Philadelphia, Pa. This is a truly wonderful remedy for Indigestion. Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Liver Complaint. Constipation, and Debility, Curing after

nature s own meiooa, uy nature a own agent, tne uastric juice. Half a testpoonful of Pepsin, infused in water, will digest or dissolve, Five Pounds of Roast Beef in about two hours, out of the stomach. Pepsin is the chief elemenl, or great digesting principle of the Gastric Juice, the solvent of the Food, the purifying, preserving, and stimulating agent of the stomach and intestines. It is extracted from the digestive stomaeh of the Ox, thus forming an Artificial Digestive Fluid, precisely like the natura! Gastric Juice in its Chemical powers, and furnishing a complete and perfect substitute for it. By the aid of this preparation, thr 'pains aad evil?: of indigestion and dyspepsia are removed, jus t as they would lie by a healthy stomach It is doing wonders for Dyspeptics, curing cases of Debility, Emaciation, Nervous Decline, and Oyspeptic Consumption, supposed to be on the ve rye of the grave. Tne scientific endence upon which it is based, 's in the highest degree curious and remarkable. SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE. Baron Liebig in his celebrated work on Animal Chemistry, says: "An Artificial Digestive Fluid analogous to the Gastric Juice, may

be readily prepared from the mucous membrane of the stomach of

the Calf, in which various articles ol loou, as meal and eggs, will be softened, changed, and digested, tust in the same manner as they would be in the human stomach." Dr. Combe, in his valuable writing on the "Physiology of Digestion.'' observes that a "diminution of the due quantity of the Gastric Juice is a prominent and all-prevailing cause of Dyspepsia;" and he stales that "a distinguished professor of medicine in London, who was severely afflicted wilh this complaint, finding everything alse to fad, had recourse to Ibe Gastric Juice, obtained from the slomachs of living animals, which proved completely successful.' Dr. Graham, author of the famous works on '-Veeeialslp Diei "

says: -'It is a remarkable fact in physiology, that the stomach of

auunais, uiaceraieu in waier, impart 10 me nutu tne proper.)' er dissolving various articles of food, and of effecting a kind of an ti hi digestion of them in unwise different from the natural digestive. process.'' Dr. Simon's great work, ihe ' Chemistry or Man." i Lea A Blanchard. Philadelph a, 1946, pp. 331-2) says: "The discovery at PEPSIN foims a new era in the chemical history ofDigettion. Fnm recent experiments, we know that food is dissolved as rapidly in an artificial digestive fluid, prepared from Pepsin, as n is in the natural Gastric Juice itself' All modern work ojijetntstfy, Materia Mcdica, and PtryaroTogy, and all good Me3ical Dictionaries, describe the character and properties of Parsix, and state many interesting details respecting The net that am Artificial Digestive Fluid, or Gastric Juice, perfectly resembling the natural fluid, may be readily prepared, does not admit of question. The only wonder is, that if has not before been applied to the cure of Indigestion and Dyspepsia so naturally does such a use suggest itelf to the mind. AS A DYSPEPSIA Cl'RER, Dr. Houghton's Pepsin has produced the most marvellous efl curing cases of Debility. Emaciation Nervous Decline, and Dyspeptic Consumption. Il is impossible to give the details of cases in the limits of this advertisement; but authenticated certificates have been given of more than two bundered remarkable cores, m Philadelphia. New York, and Boston alone. These were neatly all desperate cases, ami the cures were not only rapid and wonderful, but permanent. Il is a great Nervous Antidote, and particularly usehil for tendency to Bilious Disoider. Liver Complaint. Fever and Ague, or badly treated Fever and Ague, and the evil effect of Quinine. Mercury, and other drugs upon the Digestive Organs, aller a I ng sickness. Also, for excess in eating, and ihe too free use of ardent spirits. It almost reconciles health with iiileuperaiice. OLD STOMACH COMPLAINTS. There is no form ot Old Stomach Complaints which it does not seem to reach and move at once. No matter how bad they may be, it gives instant relief! A single dose removes all the unpleasant symptoms, and u only needs to be repeated for a short time to make these good effects permanent. Purity of blood, and vigor of body

to. low at once. Il is particularly excellent in cases of Nausea. Vomiting, Cramp",Soreuess of the pit f the Stomach, distress after eating, low, cold state of the Blood, Heaviness. Lnwness of Spirits. Despondency, Emaciation, Weakness, tendency to Insanity, Suicide. &e Dr. Houghton's Pepsin is sold by nearly all the dealers in fine
