I'rum Baltimore. Baltimore, Jnne 1, 1 P M. Convention met at li o'clock. B. F. Hallet called the Convention to order. (Jen. K M. Saunders, of North Carolina, was elected President pro tem. A committee of one from eacii State was appointed to select permanent officers and examine credentials. There is great difficulty on account ol there heing lack of Mats, and the Convention will adjonrn until o'clock in order to increase the accommodations, as soon as the committees are appointed. 1 o'clock A proposition to exclude alternates and II delegates over the number each State is entitled to. aiised a warm aud excited debate. Two claimants from Georgia to seats, claim the right to appear before the committee on credentials and advocate their claims. Not hall the delegales seated. There are hundreds piesenl not entitled to seats. Virginia has 12U delegates, Mississippi 4o; other States immense numbors. 2 o'clock, 2U minute A sharp debate was going on against allowing supernumerary delegates to take heats on the floor, causing great confusion and excitement. John W. Davis, ol Indiana. ice t-resmcnt, J..nn irwm. ol Alabama Secretaries, E C. West, S. C Pratt, Wm. Stewart, and Pratrick Crittenden. Resolced, That the rules of the House of Representatives, as far as applicable for the Convention, be adopted as the rules of the Convention. Resolved, That two-thirds of the whole number ol votes given shall be necessary fur the nomination ol candidates for President aud Vice President of the United States by this Convention. Rewlved, That, in voting on any question which may arise in the proceedings of this Convention, the vote shall be taken by States at the request ol any member each Statu to be entitled to the number of votes to winch each is entitled in the next electoral college, without regard to the number ol delegates in attendance. The manner in which said vole is to be cast is to be decided by the delegation of each State by itself. After the reauing of the report of the committee, all o' it, with the exception of that portion relative to the twn. third rule, wj-, on motion, concurred in. D. A. Spratt, of Ohio, made a speech against the two-third rule, and. at its conclusion, made a motion to reject it. A motion was made and carried to lay the motion ol the gentleman from Ohio, ou the table, and the twothird rule was then adopted. Its adoption wa- succeeded by Ion and continued ap plause ami deafeiiiug shouts. A comm. live was appointed to inform the president ol his election and escort him to the chair, which dun was immediately performed, and when Mr. Davireached I he platform he was received with deraontration- of applause. As soon as order was restored he acknowledged the honor conferred upon him in a brief but pertinent speech in which ii eh rled the members to harmony, conciliation, and compromise Everything for principle nothing for men. The address was succeeded by great applame. The convention then adjourned tdl ten o'clock to-morrow. Baitimorc, June 2. I. P. M. The Convention met at ten o'clock and was called to order by the President. The immense Hall wa crowded to uttocation There was great confusion and dimYiilty in scatiuij member. Mr. Burrows of Arkansas, submitted a resolution appointing a committee of one from each State to report resolutions composing a Democratic platform. A substitute was ottered, and adopted, to appoint a committee of the same number and in the same manner, to whom shall he referred all resolutions without debate A resolution aVnrlMlf the compromise, aud especially the fugitive law, as unacceptable to certain portions of the Union, hut that all democrats coincide ui them for ake of harmony ami the permanency of the Union, wa laid on '.be table and ordered to be printed. Sevt-ial lesoluiions were then offered, endorsing the compromise, which were referred to committee. Several motions to adjourn. On account of heat and crowd the members were unable to hear. Motions voted down. Not less lire, a thousand claiming seats as delegates. Seveial resolutions all in favor ol fugitive and compromise laws, were read and lud on ihe table and ordered to be piinted. June 5, 8 P M. General Franklin O. Pierce, of New Hampshire, was nominated on the forty-ninth ballot by over two hundred VOtes. Gen. Pierce, who, with his lady, was at the Tremont House, was greatly surprised on being informed of his nomination. He leaves for Concord on Monday. Numerous calls of congratulation were made cheers tumultuous joy great salutes fired bells ringing. Baltimore convention adjourned. Next convention to be held at Cincinnati From New York. ARRIVAL OF THK ASIA-THREE DAYS LATER NEWS FROM EUROPE. New York, Juno 2. The steamship Aia, with three days later advices from England and the continent, arrived at this port this morning. She brings 2f passengers and $122,000 in specie from France. The lower grades ol cotton had declined at Liverpool Jd, but the better grades were unchanged. Market closing quietly on the 22d. At Manchester less active, and prices of some articles were lower. At Havre cotton market had closed quiet, though thi're had been much activity during the week, and prices had advanced two francs. Weather in England continues fine and very favorable for the growing crops. Wheat at Liverpool lit ,-i advanced 3d and holders were withholding their stock from the market. There was a fair business doing in corn. Floating cargoes were taken very freely at last quotation. Western canal flour is quoted at 20s tnd Ohio at 21s. Beet had advanced 2sto 6s pertierce, and full rates were obtained tor ordinary, with large J f- ! transactions for expo.t to Aiistna Po.k was sellmg al extreme rales. Bacon bad advanced Is, and was sell I ing slowly. Shoulders and hams were dull. Lard had advanced bd. The supply of Fnglish cheese was ample. There was no American in market. Rice is unchanged, and the sales limited. Sugar was very buoy, ant, and was generally held at a farthei advance. Tea was steady and tirm. Cotlee less active, but no quota ble change had taken place in price ; sales of St. Do miago were made at auction at 38a41s, and of Jamaica ' at 40a50s. In London sugars were in brisk demand, both for West India and retiued. with a large demand lor expo.t, and 1 1 ,000 chests Havana sold at 2(Mid to 22s 3d. The steamer United States from Aspinwall, Irom whence she sailed on the 23th ult., arrived at this port this afternoon. She brings 304 passengers and $70,000 in gold, on freight, and $14,000 iu the hands of passengers, hut nothing Inter from California. The steamer Illinois arrived at Kingston on the 2dth alt.
