We must beg- our correspondents or euch n3 nred the sujrjfestion to write upon cne side orüy of the sheet, in their communications for the press. They have on idea what inconvenience we sustain by a violation of this rule ; how it retards the progress of the compositor, and how much it multi plies the chances uf typographical mistakes. It will be seen by our commercial article that over 8000 bags of Rio coffee have been sold lately at New Orleans at eight ends per round, liarly in February the current rate wan 14 i cents, so that the fall in prices since that time is about six and a half cenls per pound, or more than $10 per bagFeee Schools in Mississippi. The Legislature of Mississippi has appropriated 200,000, for which the people are to be taxed, to be distributed among the several counties in proporton to the number of children, to establish a system of free schools. S:eps are also beinr taken to procure an accurate return of the number of children in the State between the ages of six and twenty years. Romantic. A younjj lady from Laurel, Ind., passed through Chicago, III., last week, on ber way to California, via the overland route, expecting to meet a young man tu whom she is betrothed, (who has been at the "jrold diggings" and had excellent success,) at Fort Ilill, over 1,000 miles beyond St. Joseph. The suit for slander brought by the Rev. John C. Within a day or two several men have left this city and many have passed through here from above, who, it is stated, have been enlisd for the proposed expedition against Cuba. We understand that they hate been rn?sged for one year and large pay is promised them. Nothing more than that their detination is Chagres has been imparted tollitin to far as wo can learn. We have heard it also stated that commissions for officers, signed by Gen. Lopez, have been proffered. It is further rumored that the command of the expedition has been offered to Gsn. Shields. Lou.
