Whereupon it wm Ordertd, That raid subscription be referred to Metsrs. Ordered, That the commissioner of stieels construct gravel wa kt aciois New Jersey tieet, at intersection with Washington stieet, and acrose East street, whenever the side walks in connection therewith shall be made. The Piesident laid before the Council the proceedings of a meeting of citizens in the western pait of the ci'J, asking assistance in the organization of a new engine company. Whereupon it was Oedered, That a committee be appointed to confer with 4he Independent Relief Fire Engine Company, lo know on what teims the eld "Good Intent" can be pat under the cool ml of the City Council, and that laid committee report at the next meeting of the Council. On motion of Mr. King, the Council proceeded 'o the election of a Councilman for the second ward, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of James Gillespie. And David V. Culley received a majority on the first ballot, and was declared duly elected. Mr. Culley apieared and wss sworn in. The Secietary laid before the Council a deed from J. K. Sbaipe for foor acres of ground in out-lot No. 69. Referred to City Attorney for examination. Mr. Solgrove moved that the Treasurer be directed to pay off atl execotiona against the city issued upon judgments rendered by Justices of the Peace, and all other claims, a fast as funds aie rtceifed by him, applicable lo such pjjrnenf. Messrs. Batea, Culley, Sulgrove. Montague and Eckert Toted for said motion, and Mer. King and Rooker against it. So the motion was adopted. On motion of Mr. Mootagoe, the street commissioner was directed to repair the tumble on Pogos Run, near Virginia Avenue. On motion of Mr. Sulgrove, the committee on street were directed to repoit upon the expediency of building a new biidge over Poue's Run on Illinois street. aTso, that the same committee examine and report what repairs, if any, are necessary at the west end of Maryland atreet. Mr. Montague moved that the city attorney make examination of the oiders of the Council conferring privilege upon Mr. Kinder to excavate earth Tom the public guttei on Alabama street, and if in bis opinion an action can be tminiaiaed for failure to excavata said gutter, that suit be brought. Adapted. Mr. Sulgaove moved that f,he committee on claims be, and tSry are beieby authorized to loan the school funds f tl e city, f r a period not longer than four months, upon aecaiily to be approved by the Council. Adopted. Ordertd. That the committee on fire department and publie wells be authorized to make such repair lo the fiie en gines and the public wells as in (heir opinion is necessary for the public good; Dd that they lepoit all expenses thus incurred lo the Council for allowance. Ordered. That the Secretaiy make oot and deliver to the City Treasurer an assessment against all persons who hue failed lo grade and gravel stteeta nid walks, and for which the Council have paid, and thai the Tieasurer pioceed with out delay to collect the same in accordance with th idiliance on that subject. Flour and Grain The market for Flour presented no new feature to-day either as regarded prices or demand. The only sale beard of was 60 brts. new at 4.30. There is no export demand, and for consumption it is exceedingly limit.'d. The leceints however are not large. Wheat is steady at 50 to 90c. Corn 25a2Sc. OaU 2Sa29c. Barley 6i70c. Rye 60a 65c. Provisions The sales to-day comprised only 100 brie, (old) Mess Pork at $3.43 do. do. lo close out at 7:67, and 86 brla. grease at 4jc.
