Indiana Jhmey. ihe St. Louis Hew i.ra has an article in which it is recommended to commercial men to send the notes of the State Lank of Indiana home ward, on the alleged ground that its circulation is al together too large for safety. Lou. Jour. Can the Locofocos of this State who have the man agement of our State Bank in their hands explain the cause of tins great expansion since they went into power ! The eople have not forgotten the great cry raised by the leaders of this party against the Whigs for over issues as they falsely alleged. Yincennes Gazette. Let the Louisville Journal do or say any thing, fur or against the State Bank of Indiana, or any thing else, and nine-tenths of the Whig papers in thi State will follow suit. They delizht in nothinrr better than J to follow at its stern, and feed on the garbage which it j voids. In this case, however, they are all assailing I their best friends; The Louisville Journal, on second thought, discovered this, and applied salve to the t. . 1 1 . t SJ wounu ii inmciea ; ana me only reason why our whig papers fail to do the same, is because, as tlicy assert, "the Locofocos have the management of the Bank." But this does not happen to be the fact, nor will it become so, until the Whif papers can show that the Four directors which the State is graciously permitted to elect, can out-vote the Thirteen directors, representing the Branches, who are almost invariably Whigs. Now the effects of such attacks as these may be judged of by the following recapitulatioti of the operations of the State Bank and Branches, which appears in the New York Morning News. If the Whig papers think it promotive of the interest of an institution they so much admire, to continue their misrepresentations, for political effect, why, let them go ahead, and they will soon discover, perhaps, that the final result will be very contrary to what they anticipate. Be it remembered, by the tray, that the conditions of the Bank here summed up, was its condition while under whig management exclusively, and for which, the Locofocos " were in no degree responsible. " Locofocos " can't make it worse if they try ever so hard. The State Bank of Indiana has been and will yet be the source of great evil to the people of the State. It is owned by about GCO stockholders who control it and borrow from it about four times the amount of stock they hold. In fact very little of the private stock was ever paid for, except by its own discounts. Tbe great mass of its loans are of old accommodation paper of years' standing. Its reports for November, 1S44, as compared with Nov. 1840, is as follows : STATE BASI OF INDIA , 1840. , Diseoant note 2,31429 184. Deer cat. In that year the Michigan City Bank was established, with a capital of $ 10,0U0. At, the close of that year, the folic wing were among its loans: Drawers. Jndtrtert. The tax payers of Indiana were 115,000 in that year, of whom one out of 20 had loan from the bank, although they all lent it the proceeds of their industry, for its promises'. The Lawrenceburg Branch was sued by the Federal Government for 50,000 deposits, and stayed the proceedings by paying up. This institution has been, by its promotion of extravagance, through the loans to merchants and thereby causing them to buy more goods than they could sell for cash, and leading to consumption on credit, by the circulation of promises by persons who had nothing to pay with, and thereby keeping capital out of the Slate, a most grievous burden to the people of Indiana. From the Washington Unten, July 3. Important and Glorious IVew! On the eve of the great day which is consecrated to the independence of our country, we hail the reunion of Texas with the United States. We will now tread the road of freedom and greatness together. This news comes to us by the l'rinceton steamer, which arrived at Annapolis to-day at 2 o'clock. Dr. Wright brings the despatches from Annapolis. He left Washington, Texas, on the 21st June, and arrived at Galveston on the 23d on which day the Princeton left that place. We are favored by the Doctor with the following memoranda : "The United States ship Trinceton, Commodore Stockton, arrived at Annapolis, from Galveston, Texas, after the short passage of nine days, having consumed only 93 tons of coal. She steamed against head winds, with the exception of only 36 hours, when 6he was assisted by her sails. No Atlantic steamer has ever made so good an hourly average, with the same economy of fuel; and, considering all the circumstances, it may be regarded as an unprecedented passage. . "The news brought by the Princeton is of the roost interesting character. Both houses of the Texian Congress have unanimously consented to the terms of the joint resolution of the United States. The Senate had rejected the treaty with Mexico by a unanimous vote. Capt. Waggamah had arrived at Washington, Texas, to 6elect posts to be occupied by the United States troops, and to provide for their subsistence. A resolution was introduced into both houses of Congress, requiring the executive to surrender all posts, navy yards, barracks, &c, to the proper authorities of the United States. The joint resolutions were introduced into both houses cf Congress on the same day, and were almost identical in their tenor. The resolutions passed the Senate on the 13th of June, and were sent to the House ; the House laid them oa the table', and passed their own resolutions unanimously, and sent them to the Senate on the next day. In the meantime, considerable jealousy arose as to which branch should claim the honor of the paternity of the resolutions ; and it was finally settled that the House should take tip the resolutions of the Senate, and amend them in the third section. The House then passed them in their present form, and sent them back to the Senate, which body concurred in the amendment The President is pledged to give full and immediate effect to the will of Congress, so far as depends upon himself.' This important intelligence has just reached the President of the United States, (this evening, halfpast 8.) Dr. Wright brings copious despatches from our able charge, Major Donelson ; but they are written prior to the adoption of the resolutions of the Congress of Texas. He also brings newspapers, embracing the "National Register," printed at Washington, of the 19th June, three days after Congress assembled. We must confine ourselves principally to the contents of the Galveston "News extra' cf the 23d June. JOINT RESOLUTION. Giving the consent of the existing government to the annexation of Texas to the United States. Whereas the government of the United States hath proposed the following terms, guarantees, and conditions, on which the people and territory of the republic of Texas may be erected into a new Slate, to bo called the State of Texas, and admitted as one of the States of the American Union, to wit . Here follow the Resolutions of the United States Congress. And whereas, by said terms, the consent of the existing government of Texas is required : Therefore, Sec. 1. Be it resolced by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Republic of Texas, in Congress assembled, That the government of Texas doth consent that the people and territory of the republic of Texas may be erected into a new State, to be called the State of Texas, with a republican form of government, to bo adopted by the people of said republic, by deputies in convention assembled, in order that the same may be admitted as one of the States of the American Union ; and said consent is given oa the terms, guarantees, and conditions, set forth in the preamble to this joint resolution. Sec. 2. Be it further resolved. That the proclamation of the President of the republic of Texas, bearing date May 5th, 1S15, and the election of deputies to sit in convention at Austin on the 4th day of July next, for the adoption of a constitution for the State of Texas, had in accordance therewith, hereby receive the consent of the existing government of Texas. Sec. 3. Be it further resolved, That the President of Texas is hereby requested immediately to furnis the government of the United States, through their accredited minister near this government, with a copy of this joint resolution ; also to furnish the convention tp assemble at Austin on the 4th of July next, with a copy of the same ; and the same 6hall take effect froia and after its passage. 0OThe P. M. here has notified us, that he has been notified by the P. M. at Madison, that one dollar haa been deposited at the latter place for the State Sentinel. Of course we cannot demand it, for we have neither order nor instructions. These must be sent ; and the person depositing it must pay the same postage that it would have cost to have remitted the money at once, and we have two cents to pay, and the postmasters at each end have entries to make. This will account to the person who left the money for non-attention to that which we know nothing about. The regulation is utterly impracticable. O-The Washington" Union contradicts the statement (which originated in a New York paper) that the U. S. government has " received, assurance from the British Minister at Washington that a newly-appointed Minister to Mexico would not fail to be favorably received by the Mexican Government," fcc. CO"Will our neighbor, the Journal, let its readers know that the "Mysteries of Iniquity," which it copied from the Whig Review, was a mere batch of lie ! ! The Editor of the Review himself, in endeavoring to explain how the falsehoods eluded his rerision, says "I cannot too strongly affirm that had they met my eye, all possible considerations would have forbidden their admission". I believe- the facts in them to be untrue, the inferences from those statements equal) r untnur 3 We hope our neighbor will tell his readcra about this matter ; for it is sometimes as bad' to conceal the truth, aa it is to tell a lie outright.
