Thus it must have formed an enormous feathered

monster, well worthy from its ciantic eize, of being

classed with the Mejralossurus of Buckland,and the

Mastadon of Cuvier. A mechanic who had been re

siding at Cloudy lity, in the Middle Island, asserts

that this bird now exists in the hills near Cloudy Uay,

and that one has been seen by two Americans, who had

gone to shoot it, but were so petrified with horror when

they beheld the monster that they were utterly unable

On motion of Gen. Drake, it was

Reso'xcd, That Terry township be respectfully requested to appoint five delegates to the district con

gressional convention. The nominees beinjr called upon for remarks.

Mr. Webeer said, that the honor conferred upon

him by the convention had been entirely unsolicited on his part. When called upon by his neighbors, for

that purpose, he had consented that his name might be used in their primary meeting, but had little idea that it would have come to this place tacked by the

very nattering approval of the people of the county

He would cot then attempt a discussion of questions

of public policy, but he promised, that, on other occasions, pending the canvass, the people should hear from him. He was grateful to the convention for the honor conferred, and whether succesnful or unsuccessful, he would never cease to recollect the mark of respect that had been extended Jo him. Mi. Wilson 6aid, that although he distrusted his own abilities, h'i9 best efforts should be used to carry

out the wishes of the county, should he be succcss- . ful in the canvass. He wns a democrat, because he

Orleans. They have received the intelligence of the

passage of the Annexation Resolution in both Houses of Congress. On the 21st of March the subject w as

formally introduced in the Chamber of Deputies, and

.resolutions were presented, declaring that the pro

visions of the treaty of 1ÄJ1 are at an end, requiring

that the ports of Mexico should be closed against all

vessels of the Lnited States : prohibiting the mtro

duction into the Republic of the manufactures of this
