Iji rwha I for Indiana. Tue appointment of Col. David Garland Host, as Marshal for Indiana, has been con6rmei by the Senate This will l gratifying news to the numerous friends ot Col. Rose throughout Indiana, without reference to party associations. Nliwtakr in the Knrollmcnt School Law. of the Department or Public Instruction.! OrriCR Or SlPERINTENDENT. Indianapolis, March 16, '61. ) Editor Sentijcel Member of the Lezisla ture will discover in the School Law, which you publish in your weekly edition, quite a number of mistakes. Through the carelessness of the enrolling clerks, most cf the House amendments, which were concurred in by the Senate, were not insert ed. and ;he bill was thus enrolled, and signed by mil the proper officers, and became a law. These amendments were generally of a char acter not at all affecting the spirit of the law. I desire to call attention to but one mistake. The Legislature never pa-ed a law allowing me one thousand dollars for clerk hire. Miles J. Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher desires us to say that he does not intend in the above, to reflect on the enroll ing Clerk of the House. -a w Township Tritstee. The citizens of this township will have an admirable opportunity next Monday of attesting their interest in the welfare and good management of our public schools by electing James Kirlin as Township Trustee. On every hand, by Republicans, Americans, and Dem ocrats, his superior fitness for the place is universally acknowledged, and all speak -of him in the highest terms as a gooi citizen, whose infegrity and qualifications are undoubted and unquestioned. Why. then, should he be defeated? There can be but one reason, because party demands it. And is the interest and prosperity of our public schools to be sacrificed to the demands of party? We feel assured no good citizen will give an af (urinative answer. Indeed, we hear so many Republicans declare their determination to support Mr. Kirlin, that we can not doubt his election. Mr. Kirlin is not an office seeker; he will not bore and annoy the teople with importunities to vote for him. Standing upon the Jackson plat form, neither seeking nor refusing the office, he will leave the peoole free to make their own selection. His qualifications and honesty are known to our citizens, and he is ready to abide by their verdict, without any attempt on his part to control it by annoying electioneering. If elected, he will serve the people honestly, impartially and faithfully, according to the best of his ability. 'The scramble for places in and around the Penitentiary North under the new Board of Control is said to be, in proportion to the nam ber to be fillel at that institution, equal to that at Washington There were two hundred aad thirteen applicants urging their claims in Nine clergymen were there each clamorous to be Moral Instructor. A pious minister happening to be there on business, and seeing those followers of the meek and lowly Saviour of men urging their claims and pointing to their political scars, took the first train for home, fearful that he might be counted in the number. "The Berlin correspondent of the New York World, writing under dat of February 27th, says that "Andrew Haen, a native of Prussia, a naturalized citizen of the Unite.. States, Postmaster at Walpole, Hancock county, Indiana," was arrested at Nordhausen, the residence of but mother, where he had gone on business, on the 16th of February, the Tery day he arrived there. He was sent to Saugerhausin, a garrison town in the mountains to do duty. The case coming to the ears of Gov. Wright, he demanded his release, and sent Mr. Hudson, the Secretary of Legation, to see that no harm came to Haizen while the negotiations were in progress. The letter wiiter says that Hagen will be released. Col. J. W. Gordon arrived at home from Washington C.ty on Saturday night. We were greatly in hopes that Mr. Seward would have provided for our warlike friend in Italy or among the romantic glens of Switzerland from whence we might occasionally he ir the echo of his muse. It would have been far more agreeable to our ears than to heir the sharp re;ort of a pistol, and we are down henceforth on the State Department for not paying some regard to our wishes on this subject. J2TSorne Htf that Dclzell k Smith, real estate agent-i, are rets of ours. Not at all. We only "say what we lo know, and testify to what we have seen" of them. Important Ber it I on of the Attorney GentralThe Revenue. Attorney General Bates has given hifRjwritten opinion to President Lincoln, that no revenue can be collected im the $eceding State. Tiie law of 1799 provide tliat all cases of violation of the revenue law shall le tried in the judicial district in which said violation occurred. Now there are no United States Courts, Judpes, Jurors, Marshals of District Attorney in those district which compose the seceded States. Hence the law can not be executed in them Cin. Enquirer. How to get Early Tomatoes A good large turnip is far letterthan any hot-bed for propnjtatin" early tomatoes. Cut on the top, and scoop out a shell three-quarters of an inch thick. Fill te cavity with a rich mould, plant a half a dozen seeds, and place the turnip in a box of loam. Keep in a warm room, by an eist window, if possible, and sprinkle with tepid water every day until there is no longer any .Linger from frost, when i emove the turnip to the outdoor bed, and thin out all but one plant. Should the turhip shell put out shoots, pinch them off, and the shell will soon rot, affording a fertilizer to the tomato plant, that will send it ahead wonderfully. A dozen turnips thus tonatoized will afford an nbundnnt supply of early tomatoes for an ordinary family. BlalK RiPf bucass The correMinletit of the New York Express says that there arvn tile for Postmasterships over 210 applioiWrM frtjrn colore" I citizens ot" Massachusetts. It will thus be seen that they are contracting to an appalling extent the vices ot their white brethren. District Attormlt. India a Statesmen. Mr. Sutherland has laid on our table a copy of his new work Biograpbi cal sketches of the members of the General Assembly, and ot the officers thereof, together with the State officers. It is a very interesting work. Biographies always have a charnr for the reuler,
and as this work gives :Aimple narrative of the rise to influence and position of nearly two hunflVl men who have p-i-ned the winter in our muist, it j. -.-:. -es peju.i.ir Interest to the citizens of Indianapolis. It is well written, and we honestly believe that as much has been made out o; the material as coulil be expected, and w e cordially recommend it. It should have a place un the shelves of every library in the State. Pennsylvania Strut We learn that a number of first class business houses are designed to be erected on the above street in view of the incre ised importance that will be given the same by the removal of the postofficeand United States Courts to the building provided by the Government in that locality. Most of the property is owned by those who will erect improvements that will be a credit to the city and will aend much to advance property in the neighborhood. The lot formerly occupied by Wm. Woods as a livery and sale stable, and which we notice is to be sold on Tuesday, April 2d, by Wiley, Real Estate Auctioneer, offers a fine chance for some one to invest in good property. eases, and for the treatment or Lung Ihseases, and for the past ten years a constant attendant of the Oriental Hospitals, will be in imilMfMII. UHAWAi IUI Till FIKST OF SEPTEMBER, 18111 afT LITTLE'S HOTEL, Where he will !e happy ta meet all those afllicted withany kind or disease and considered incurable by other practitioners. His remedies are only those which nature has so bountifully provided us with. In the treatment of disease he rejects the use of all poisouous drugs and minerals. Instead of enfeebling the system he invigorates, that nature may be able to expel the disease. It is to the knowledge of those great secret that he owes his uccea; and in u-ing which he defies all the Medical Faculty on the Continent to compete with him. All thoe who are suffering from Lung Diseases of whatever nature, are particularly de.-ired to call, as one-half of the ces of consumption that are pronounced incurable by the Medical Faculty, and considered hopeless, are readily cured, and yield at once to his mild plan of treatment, from the very fact that not one physician in twenty have the proper instruments for examining the lungs, and thote who have, are very few of them capable of judging the amount or kind of disease to whic'.i the lung is -ubject. He has cured hundreds upon hundreds of such patieuu, who had been given up by other practitioners to die. The idea that con-uinption is neces.-a.il" fatal has destroyed more human life than the disease itself. For all forms of Dyspepsia and Kidney Diseases he tests the urine, for the excesses deposited, which is th only possible plan to ascertain the true cause of disease. The Dr. can show more certificates of cures, sworn to by patients, than any other physkisn in America. Not like hundreds of empirical swindler, he never prepares his medicines until he ascertains the disease aad it trie cause. He has no puffed nostrums that will cure all diseases. The diseases of Women and Children receive his particular atU-ntion. To 'Lib - and Females of Youth and Maturity.
Seminal Weakness and Spermatorrhoea. It Is a melancholy fact that thousands who are suffering under pale and j insatiate di-ea-e are victims of secret habit, self abuse, gradually underminiug their constitution the disease in- J idiously creeping on, every faculty is shattered, constitution wrecked, and they become subject only for a hospital !
or mad-house, unle-s death comes in as a welcome guest to relive the patient from his suffering, and his friends from the painful evidence of his irregularities and errors. The penalty will not cease with the transgression; the constitution has received the shock, and nature, unaided can not repair the iigury. The only escape is found in prompt and proper medical treatment. The earlier this is sought the ea-ier the cure. Generally the tir.-t symptom in males, are noctural and sometimes diurnal emissions. In cither sex we find weakness of the stomach, abdomen, back and loins, lassitude, loss of memory, confused ideas, low spirits, timidity, aversion to society, love of solitude, with general debility, and frequently attended mith cough and hectic fever. This disagreeable and awful complaint, with all it- symptom-, can be relieved and promptly arrested by the Indian Herb Doctor and his new method ol cure. He uses an instrument that will arrest the di-cuse instantly, and without any exposure to the patient. flgF All tlio- who rail may deend upon an honest, candid and true statement of their case, and the poaibi'uV of his giving them relief gratis. The Doctor permanently cures the Pile-, and defies th world to compete with him on Female Complaint.-. The Dr. challenges the whole Medical Facultv for the treatment of Lung, Liver, Kidnev Diseases and Dyspepsia.
