Democratic Mass Iff eel ins of Clarion Co. At a Mass .Meeting of the Democrats of Marion county, held at the Court House, in Indianapolis, on Saturday, the &th of April, composed of citi zens from every township in the county, N. IJolton, of Centre township, was appointed President; John Terry, of Lawrence, David Shields und David Uuchnnan, of Warren, and John Draper, of I'ike, VicePresidents, and A. Vines, Secretary. The President, on taking the chair, remarked, that the meeting had been called by the Democratic State Convention, through the State Crntral Committee, for the purjMJse of making orranements fur the approaching elections in August and November, lie wns pleased to witness tu larpe a number ot the Democrats from the county present. It showed to his mind most conclusively, that the principles of Democracy were still cherished by the bone and sinew of the land. He saw ureal reasons to be encouraged, even in .Marion countv; that although here we had sometimes been defeated, still, on other occasions, Democracy bad triumphed, ond that, too, when the principles of llif- two political parties hod been fully discussed. He was not disposed to yield the pint that .Marion was a wliij: county, and there never was a better opportunity of carrying a Democratic ticket than at the next August election. The jrrcat ni.d cardinal measures of the Democratic party had been eminently successful. The interests of the preut farming community had been promoted instead of mined, as predicted by f.nr Political or:)onriits. The financial policy we had advocated, and which had been adopted, had been ftucccsfsfully tested in a time of war, and that war, he trusted, wad speedily to be brought to a close by nn honorable peace. It was no wonder, under this view of the subject, that the farmers oi the country eiiuuul emb!o to take measures to secure the continuanct tjf these wholesome measures. Instead of panic and ruin, the produce v the country commands a fair re- i numeration to the tiller of the soil. L'ut eternal vigi-1 lance is the price of liberty, and it i mi with our principles. Our opponents arc marshalling their forces for the onset, and we must be prepared to meet them. We can meet them successfully by union and harmony in our ranks. Present a good ticket to the people of Marion, and it w ill be successful. J. F. Ci!.r."i.N, Ksip, Chairman of the Central County Committee, laid before thj meeting the following resolution, adopted by eaid committee, for its consideration, to-wit: Resnlud, Tiiat we recommend to the democratic 3lass .Mec'.in-' to assemble cu tliiä day ay ; that it there b- a fair representation of the cmnty present, and it A iahle, that the rr.cetin;: recommend a critic ticket to the people; that if there j representation of the countv, then that j is deemed advi county Democratic be not a irood renr a county convention, for the nomination cf candidates be called, to meet on the last Saturday in April, and that delegate's b? appointed by the several townships to attend said convention. He also alluded to the situation and agitation of the public mind in Germany and Ireland, and indeed, of all Europe, showing that this is truly a period of progress.
