The Jackson men, however, had tneir ryes open, for once. They knew that Mr II. was to ! a candidate for reelection to ihe Senate next winter, and this ftint was a part of his plan to appease the Jackson partv, and to win strength from their ranks. " That if he could create the belief in the minds of the uentlcmcn whose nomination he had voted to confirm, that he would not oppose the procnt udministntion, and thereby induce them to consider themselves under a debt of RratitMdeto him, he would avert their strength fu.d intluence, and again secure a six years privilege to shew forth hi real fulhps, in a sphere where he would be

New Yorl : April 23. Our Marine list continues to teem with universal intelligence. Within two last elavs no fewer than forty, square rigged vessels have arrived within our port, a circumstance without precedent in our recollection. Amonsr the-se vessels were three
Fast Indiamen, which not only arrived in the port at the same time, but also left Canton nearly together, twoof them having sailed on the same day, and the other two days after. We do not believe that the lie-tine; records of this city can furnish a case abounding with so many extraordinary arrivals as hae taken place within thclast fortnighi. The ship Ajax, one of the vessels which arrived yesterday, came in under command of Captain Pedrick, lae; first officer of the ship Globe, ef Philadelphia. Tlie person, says the' Me rcantile, who went out a second mate, fell enerbemd, on
Wednesday, off the Hook, while clearing
away the anchors, and was elrowned. The Captain (I)owdall,) and first officer (Nicoll.) died at Canton. Thus the ship has returned to port with theirs of every officer that was in command on her outward passage Ere. Poxt.
