The lies Line will no longer occapy a conservative position but will make a grand pmh fcr business in all directions. Commissioner Carman, of th9 Northwestern Traffic, Central Icwa and Keck Island and Älcline Associations, h&a notified the rradsin these associations that whenever they find it necessary they may make sich rates aj will enable them to compete against Ziittissippi River steamboat lines, but should always try and secure tbe highes: rates obtainable. On the New York Central they are putting a new style atep on all p:iienger cars that come in for repairs. They have nine inches lite, but there are no regular riser. The back oi the step is inclosed by a board set at an angle. The- platform is reduced eight iLchts in width. The top of the lower slep ccmrs witbin thirteen inches of the topot the rail. The step3 of the cars of this road have always been considered particularly caey to reach, from the rail level, bat the are htiil f asier. For stations where there are no platforms, and the cars have to bs reached from the ground, this is a great improvement. On Sunday there will bs a change of time on the Ohio and Middle division of the I.( P. and W. The principal change will be on the Middle Division. Train No, C, which has heretofore left Indianapolia at 11:20 a. m will leave at 0 p. m., with combination sleeping and chair cars attached, for both Sandusky and Columbus, connecting nt Bpringneld at 2:10 a. m. with Ohio Division No. G formerally 2; also with Bee Line ex piers from Dayton and Cincinnati, and far Cleveland and the East. No. G will reach Columbnsat5:45 a. m., and Sandusky at 8 a. in., giving pa3?engerj the advantage of all night rest, and arrival In Col ambus in time to get breakfast and take all early trains leaving that place, and at Sandusky in time to connect with morning boats for the Islands. COURT-HOUSE LOCALS. Two Suits for Slander, One for Divorce, and One for Support Filed. Deloss Root has given $4,000 bonds as guardian of Henry Bennett Root, minor heir of Kate Root, deceased. Judge Taylor has refused to grant a new trial in the case of Mary E. Marsh vs. the Masonic Mutual Benefit Association. In the paternity suit of Ella Todd vs. Geo. J. Charpiot, Judge Ayres yesterday reduced . the judgement heretofore rendered to $150 on account of the death of the child. Building permits: J. S. Neal, $1,000 frame In West Indianapolis; TV. II. Kendrick, $1,600 brick on Massachusetts avenue, bein cen Peru and Bellefontaine streets. Barney Boyle was struck on the head about three years ago, since which time he has been subject to epilepsy, and has become violently insane. He was yesterday declared insane by a commission. Melvina Brennan has filed for divorce from David Lewis Brennan, alleging drunkenness, cruel treatment, failure to provide and abandonment. They were married in August, 1884. Plaintiff lives at 125 West Pearl street. Judge Norton has received a letter from Judge Hord, of Shelbyville, announcing that the criminal libel suit of Isom Wray aeainst Charles X. Matthews has been settled and that his services as Judge in the cate are therefore not needed. The jury in the Hensley case was instructed by Judge Norton yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock to be on hand this morning at 9 o'clock, at winch time Hon. John B. Elam will make the closing argument for tbe Srate. It is the general belief that a verdict will be rendered after a brief consultation. In the event of a conviction it is probable tbat an appeal wifl ba taken. Frank Catalaui has filed suit in replevin against Sheriff Carter, S. B. Corbaley and John Schaffner to recover a lot of saloon fixtures and stock of goods which were in a room at 494 Virginia avenue, the goods having been levied upon by the sheriff on Wednesday. The goods are valued at $1,000. Forcible entry and seizure is alleged. Demand is made for the goods and $1,000 damages. Sarah Ray has filed suit against John J, Ray, her husband, for support, making Lewis Benton a co defendant. Plaintiff was married to John in October, 1878, and they have two children. Tbe complaint charges that on the 10th of this month John deserted his family, leaving them nothing to support them. John is a painter, employed by BenI'jt. Sarah asks that John be compelled to

The complaint alleges the execution of a trust deed by defendant to secure $25,000 loaned to Moore, who, in 1S7G, was adjudged to bo bankrupt, and A. L. Wright became his asalgnee. who sold the property to Ingram Fletcher. When plaintiff s claim for 23,000 became due he sued on it, and afterward purchased the property at Sheriff's sale, when Irgram Fletcher gave him a quit claim deed.
