Covering the points of the triangles is the national seal, surrno anted by a helmet, flanged on either side by a k night in uniform. General Freight Agent Bird, oi the Milwankea and St, Faul Road, has Issued the following: "For tcme time past agents have been allowing shippers to load grain sacks for Chicago and Milwaukee In the ame cars with Ibulk grain. This is causing a good deal of trouble, especially at Chi. esse, where the inspectors decline to inspect cars of bulk grain which contain also grain in sacks, thereby necessitating considerable extra switching and leading: to serious delay of the grain. Agents are hereby notified that in future grain la sacks must not bo loaded in the same cars with grain in bulk, unJen special authority Is given by this department to do so." It i-a still maintained by many railroad men that President Corbin. of the I., B. and W., will yet secure control of the St. Louis Divis-ioa of the T C. and St. L., tut J. M. Quigley, who represents the firsi mortgage bond holders, says that he won't. Mr. Quigley Eets forth that the lin will be purchased by the firsi-mongage boad-holder3 and by them converted into a standard gauge. They realize that the road will not pay asararrow gaue. It has been reported that the stockholders had devised apian whereby they could set aside the mortgaee?, but the af orementioned gentleman claims that there Is no truth in tue report. Quigley farther says tbat had Mr. Corbin succeeded in his plans the northern terminus would have been Sandusky, but now the road will be run In the interest of Toledo. That city, he says, will soon have two good roads to St. Louis.

This lodge is about two months old, and numbers over fifty members. The order extends sick benefits to ladies and men alike, something that no other fraternal order does. Supreme Examiner, S. 8. White, has been elected Secretary of the National Association of his School of Medicine. Indianapolis Lodge No. 1 now numbers about seventy members and is growing rapidly, and have on the roll of members some of our best citizens. The Highest Court of the Presbyterian Church in Session. Eerrnon by the ModeratorBoard or FablicRtion A Ilomb Shell From Judge Drake, of fVasblnston. Ci5ciKKATi, May 23. The General AsEembly cf the Presbyterian Church met In the First Church of Cincinrati cn Thursday. The sermon of Dr. Hays was eminently characteristic of tho man. It was written out in full, end yet so thoroughly was it studied that he scarcely referred to the manuscript at all. It was indeed lackics in literary finish, but it wa3 full of force. It ccntained a great many Western words and phrases, which may have oCTanded the extremely fastidious; but the applauss which it elicited so frequently during its delivery sbo-ffs that it reached the hearti of his hearers. It was principally an appeal from the great West to the East for aid in planting churches in the new States and Territories. After the sermon, which wai one hour and a quarter long, a recess vras taken until 3 o'clock in he afternoon. Upon assembling the Assembly proceeded to the election of a Moderat6r. And here occurred one of the most rsmf rkaole ttrugglcs ever witsested in one of cur church courts. There has bean a growing tendency cf late years for psople to eek for positions for labor in the Assembly. Last year there wes more electioneering than had ever been witnessed before; and fur the last two months eomö of our church papers have been presenting the claims of this or that man, while other papers have been just es bcisy showing that rhess very persons were wholly unfit for such positions. The great body of the church has become utterly digested with such efforts. A determination to break all euch rings had brought an unusually largo number of ministers to the Assembly, The candidate whesa claims had been so earnestly , presented by certain papers had his forces well in hand. A number of men made speeches advocating his election. One man, however, uncovered the plot, and the assembly promptly pioceeded to elect another man. After the new Moderator hai been chosen, the defeated candidate addressed tho assembly, charging that he had been wronged by tho insinuations which had been thrown out against him, not only on the Moor here, bnt through some of ths papers. It is safe to say now that there will fee no more election? ering for the modoratorship, at least cntii this lesson and reproof have fcpen forgotten. Kev. H. A. Edsou, Ilfcv. J. It. Mitchell and Kev. Jama3 McLeod arc all hrre as interested spectators. It is fate to infer, however, from tho frequent conferences they had with tho mambers that they contributed not a little to tho result cf the election. It really seemsd as though they were not only acquainted with nearly everybody, bnt &ho that they were quite intimate with a largo number oi the inest influential members. This ariees probably from tba fact that these brethren visit the Assembly nearly every year. And.as each Atsembly is cooj posed of different people they have thus learned to kno?v most o the prominent men cf the church. On Friday the Beard ot Publication came upforit3 yearly airing. A committee was appointed by the la?: Assembly to employ an expert to go through their accounts, and then to eiamino their way of doing business. Esv. W. A.Eart! tt aad liev. James Williamcon, cf the Presbytery of Indianapolis, both cade tellirg speeches demanding an entire change in tne manrgement of that board. And now tbe board says that this balanc9sheot wa3 prepared, but for some unknown reason it fiilcd to reach the Assembly. Bat this evidently did not suit the people. An elder from New York City assailed tha board for putting their depository in that great metropolis in charge of a Baptist brother who Is not in sympathy with oar theory, and whose placa of business was in a part of the city where ladie3 would not go without a protector. It is quite possible that tho men who have charge of this board may be able to shut off any further investigation; but it Is quite evident that if they fcucceed In this, that the churches will largely ceace their contributions. It is quite likely that this discussion will occupy the larger part of two dys. Juoge Drake, of the Supreme Court of Washington City, made a strong speech assailing the views of Dr. Patten, of Princeton Theological Seminary, in regard to the validity of Roman Catholic baptism. It seems a little strange to hear the orthodoxy cf such a person questioned. And yet it is generally found that those who are excessively strict in ono direction are correspondingly loose in some other direction. And it is a confirmation cf this that since the union of the Old and New School branches of the church, the latter has not furnished a single ca33 of here3y, while tho former has given us several. And yet at the reunion the Old School were afraid of the orthodoxy of the New School. While the latter has never been excessive in presirjg their views In one way, they have never wandered off in another way. Kiel' American Citizenship. Wiknipkg, Man., May 23. The Secretary was much pleased with his trip, end spoke in hish terms of the present condition and future prospects of the pottioa of the country through which he passed. The Secretary and staff departed for Washington to-night. Generals Sheridan and fc-'chc field waited on Secretiry Kndlcott and staff on their arrival. . The Fort Wayna Railroad Landslide. Pittsbukg, May 23, The landslide at Agnew Station, on the Fort Wayne Railroad, has net reached tne tracts.
