A gentleman of Louisville, Ky., writas to the Sentinel In very complimentary term of Postmaster Jones, who, after sending a letter to the dead letter office because it was not stamped, learned that the stamp had fallen off and wrote to the Department, haviEg the letter returned to the party for whom it was intended. The letter contained a $20 bill James Elder, of the Richmond Democrat; Charles Guynn, of the Covington Friend; E. J. Spence, of the Covington People, and J. L. McDaniel, of the Cambridge Cifcv Tribune, met by accident at the State offices yesterday. They looked with contempt upon the mint of money poured in upon th8 State Treasurer by numerous county officials throughout the State. Hist, the Oat! A young woman named Annie Hahm informed the police last night that she had seen a girl throw an infant into the vault in the rear of tha Dijon House, on SDUth Illinois street. The CCicers at once notified Coroner Stratford ;md h announced that he would investigate this moroiDe. A Sentinel reporter visited the Dixon House immodiately after hearing ot the matter, asd qaev tiorted the proprietor relative thereto. He eaid that if there wag a baby in the vault he did not know it, and attaching a long rope to a lighted lantern let it d?wn into the vault. The only thing that ever had p.e'sed life to be seen wc3 a dead cat, which reposed in everlasting slumber close by a pair ci very ancient shoes. This in all probability was wb;t the girl threw into thj vault. A Smelling- Accident. A wagon leaded with starch slop broke down yesterdsy morning at the corner of Mississippi and Herbert streets, one wheel having gene to pieces. Later in the day the owner came with another wagon and transferred the slop, after which the load wa3 arain left in the street while the broken wagon was hauled off for repairs. The amount of smell from the slop was sufficient to depopulate the ward. IIot to Judge a Piano. Every piano ought to be judged as to the quality ot its tone, its touch and its workmanship; if any one of these is wanting in excellence, however good the others may b?, the instrument will be imperfect. It is the combination of tnrse qualitie?, in the highest degree, that constitutes the perfect piano, and it is this combination that has made the Hazelton Tiano the choice of over 200 of oar best citizens.
