rrofeuor Fowlet'a Views on the Snbjettof Tallh Care " BasTov, Hay 5. Last Monday the Biptht clergymen bad a very lively dlssussioa on the lubjeci of "Mind Care or Ctrisilaa siencf." The Congrf rational ministers to:fc it nr, and Froftaior Storey Fowler read a paper on the eabjest, which wai loudly applauded by the many divines of tbe lai In present arncuK tbe leadir. g CongregationalIst3 In Eoston and vicinity. Professor Towler fiftid that his vies &rjd knowlcdja cf Christian science were the rc jdlt? of h'.a C77n obeeryatloa and thinkic, end were not gathered from bcck3 or works cf othar gsattamen. "I reccgniz?," said Mr. Fowler, "the strong bold Cir!3tian science or mind caro ias take a la thia community. My attention wea called to it by friendj whom I first refused to liiten to, and whom I later characterized as eccentric beingj. Sabieqiently, however, I noticed that literary people begin to take ttcc'i In it. I read the subject rp. I taw tb9 principal t dentis: teacher?, anions them Mrs. Kddy, and I calUd upon a number of healers and tried to see tbe science and its principles from the ej9a of the founders and believers. In it Gol, the scientists believe, is a principle, net a penon. lie is tbe only mind in the universe. Mrs. Eddy denies the reality of matter, and in fact all natcxal laws. She denies tha existence of a human body end of all eenses. She denies tbe human personality of God. Man hss what ste calls tin mortal mind, which in the direct opposite of God's. The mortal mind is only a beliet that man rai gfneis.ed in himself. Vitb th:3 mortal nitd be thinks he is side, but he is in error. Ir is the mind that imagines aaffaring and which dees saflcr. Sirs. EdJy say3 Christian science is entirely different from the scalled faith cure. The leader bcgta3 by arguing the cafe silently and then audibly, telling the patient that the disease only exists in imagination, and is not real. If ii is a case of csnccr the haaler tells tha person that there is no cancer; that it Is only iatianmiatlcn cf the flesh. Then the mind of the patient is swiftly swred off thi tubjast and brought to bear on God. Mrs. Eddy, by fcfr reading-, which has evidently been very feneraJ, Las become a learned woman, and bas b-come very visionary. While there are elements of Christianity in her system, it is nonsecjicai to call it Christian ecience. There are, in fact, many persenä who eubr into it wbo?a trouble really exists in their minds. Do these scientists really heal? I have not eten a casa that I shoild call dealing. If they do heal the people wo aid not stop at a question of theology, bat would flock to them. Let thrn heal one blind man and they will establish their ciairtu I fcaav a man who bad pout ad would plaza hia foot in a chair and swear at his tos. Tnis would be followed by immediate relief. Nov that wes not a swsar cure, bat simply the Influence of tbe mind over the body; aid on the ether haLd it wss not Christian science The system is nothing bat a sham, and can not fctaEd the teet of practical Ufa." Tbe Exploit of Oenernl Itomarotr. fall Mall Gsite. j General KoaiaroUf distinguished himself by military tact, audacity and resourcefulfccis. aa weil es personal bravery, in the Ilijso-Tcrklsh campaign in Asia Minor in 177, when ho won hi3 present rank of General. After the capture of Ardahan. near the Russo Tnrkhh frontier, Colonel Komareff wes left in command cf a detachmsat wh'.chhsd the difficult duty of deluding a cotbider&ble tract of tbe neighboring mountaicous conntry end of protesting the Bcsiian frontier, es weil as covering tbe i'.ank and rear of ths army then epprating against Kars. When the movfiifnt urged bv Loria Mellko.Twas mala against Eizeroum Colonel Komaroff executed a very bold and successful man'povra. With a flyicg pqaadrou be advanced from Ardaban, passed rapidly round the enstny'a Hank, and came down npoa apart of the Turkhh force which was holding the Panak P8 on the Sabanleng'a rar pe, which coairracded acccjsitothe town of Oltioa the noithern eide, whence the Tarks intends! to attack Ardahan. Colonel Koaaarotl'a unexpected epcearanco had such an effect that tfce enemy rtrceted at once without fighting, and the Kassians were enabled to ojcuoy Ptnak and OKI, and to capture L'OOJ rid s a--d 5C0.CC0 cartridges When at a subsequent period of tbe campaign tbe Russian troops wera ordered t retire from Hadj Vail, Cjlenel KomaroiT, with his detachment, found iiirrelf placed In a very perilous position by reason of the withdrawal cf the main column of tbfl Rufsiaa force, from which he bscame separated by a distance of from four to five miles, while ue wasfrxpeeedto Tarkieh fire irom the t via te'ghts cf Great ad Little Yalta. I3aa Frascißco Bulletin.) Any one of a logic al tarn of mind who had been present npen tho eca wall yesterday afternoon would most saraly have been convinced o! the fact that the dog is the smartest enimal of the brut9 creation. A .'arge crowd was congregated at the foot cf Green street. In a way unknown to those who e'eanced to be upon tha spot, a small terrier Cog fell from the stringer of the wharf into the bay. He ewam around far some time in a circl?, and many rlans wera suggested for his rescue by witnesses to th misfortune, bnt none of them proved practical. The little creature seemed doomed to a watery grave, for it wes apparent that he was fast becoming exhausted. The female portion of the audience was much exeic'sed and gave many expressions of pity. Just at the moment that 11 hopes of eaving the terrier were given up, the bark of a dg in the crowd attracted attention, and but a moment paased when there appeared upon the stringer in front of the wharf a large Newfoundland. He saw the little fellow in the water, and, with a low wail, h9 ran to and fro along the wharf for a moment or two, and then, to the surprise of every one present, he sprang into the water and at once swam to the tenitr, ee'zing him by the neck with his teeth, and, after swimming about for some time, he sighted the new sea wall extension, about a hundred yardi distaat, for which he headed. He was eagerly watched by the admiring crowd until ha reached hia destination, when evervboi7 started on a tlmultaneous run toward the rtecuer. IIpn landing his harden on t9rra t'.rma the Newfoundland gave two or three starp baik?, aad seemed to bo prood of what he bed done. It was some time before the terrier wss able to pain strength to walfc avay. One of the witnesses ot the strauga sijht took his handkerchief from'his pocket and tied it about tha neck of the Newfoundland, saying: "This dog is mine, and I wruld not take $1,000 for him at this moment." How to Have Early Pea. In my neighborhood, writes a Da Tage County correspondent of the Prairie FArmsr, there ia quite a contest every soring to see who can get the first peas forta'e table. With cue neighbor the contest generally ends when lie gets the seed int-j the ground. He has an ixcfediigly l&vorable soil la a very warm location at the routa side of the ban. where tho sua shiae-3 froru early morning until evenlre. Last spring hia peas were in a wcok cr 60 before oars. Tnis served his parjoae, but he got few peas and those little, if any, in advauce of ours, for he neg'ec.ed them, and th9 we?ds loon hid and choked them. We waited until the soil go W9ll warmed up. Then they advanced rapidly. The Prairie Parmer suggests that those desiring to count " days with neighbors in the earlincs of their pesa can first start them in boxes, and transplant töem to the garden, if they do it with extreme care. A reliable correspondent of the Husbandman last vear placed peas In a box of moist eand in the green-house. They promptly ipronted, and, when tb.9 thoots were half nn inch or so Ion?, the box was removed to a cool part of the callar. More than two weeks later the seed sprouts wera taken one by one from the box and care fally planted in an adjoining row. Ha planted an equal number of unsprouted seeds taken from the same package. The olanta from the spreuled tceds produced pods fit for use eight days earlier than those from the unsprouted ones. He noticed no dltlsrence In toe vicr or prcdnctivenesi of the two rows. The sprouted seeds vegetated very neatly as well as the others. Those not having greenhouses may trp the experiment by planting Inmoiettand and keeping the box in a warm room in tbe house. Oar Da Pa;e County friend may by this method beat the "rapid" man. who, he says, now has had hii peas in for several days. An Editor' Description of a Kiss.
