CL Rabid NewIuuDdlaud Lieg A 1'et Sheep and Hounds. Sedalia, Mo., May 2. About a month ago Mr. Mack Huffman, a well to-do farmer, residing six miles east of this city, was aroused from his slumbers one night by a commotion among his geese. On going to the door he discoyered a large Newfoundland dog killing lhern. Returning to the house he got His shot gun and loaded it with buckshot, and on going out again found the dog had attacked a pet sheep en the premises, and had been in turn attacked by a pack of hounds belonging to Mr. Huffman. After a severe fight, the hounds succeeded in driving off the intrading dog, which Mr. Huffman shot and killed. Nothing more was thoujht of the matter until a few days ero. when a varaablc heifer belonging to Mr. Untfmta vaa attacked with hydrophobia, and sines then two hogs, a hound and a calf have beeu similarly attacked and were killed, and it ia hard to tell what amount of damage was dona by this rabid canine. The aheep, which was badly torn by the dog's teeth, has apparently recovered. Tho chief point of anxiety to Mr. Huilman, la from the fact that this sheep pos?essei traits and history both Birgular and interesting. Its mother haying died when it was born it was taken to the house ard raised by hand. In the yard was a deg kennel for a pack of bounds which Mr. Hudman keep9 for deer driving and fox hunting. As It grew stronger it would follow them in the ckas, and for the past ko years has been their constant companion in the hunt, leaping fencaa like a desr, and always keeping up with th8 foremost hounds.. 83 eticng has become the affection cf the d o'i for their queer companion that they will not fellow a tiail wi.tiout It, or permit any stronger animal to molest iL Mr. Huffman pr'zee it highly, but fears it will fall a victim to hydrophobia.
