THE CAEI.ETOjr ZXGLIn WEKA CO.'irAHY. For their second performance last night the Caileton Opera Company presented Johann Strauss' "Merry War." The opera was pre sented in a manner to warrant the assertion that it is the strengest organization of its eh that has b?ea here tiis eeasoa. The chief excellence lst night was thevocalizition, which was quite strong and brlliant throughout, while the acting was hardly les3 meritoriooa. For comic opera It is an unamal composition, frequently rising to the (UgLity and strength of more pretentious works, and it is one that greatly pleases these who have the musical iajtinct well developed. Miss Fieldlcgwas more fascinating than ever a3 th naive "Violetta," and was in geed voice. Nothing could ba more charming than her rendition cf her solos and concerted pieces in the first, second and third acts. Miss Bartlett's "Lisa" was a very clever delineation, abounding in choice bits of melcdious soncc and roguish glee. Mr. Carlton's "General Spinola" waiadrairbly surg and played throughout. It is hard to tell which to admire most, the richness and sweetness of bis baritone tenor, or the sprightlintES cf his acting. Other characters were assumed by Mies Wisdom, Mr. Fattenbure, Mr. Adolphi and Mr. Dixon. The chorus ii well drilled and the piece is Handsomely staged. This afternoon the "Drum Major's Daughter" with low price?, and to-nigh: the eng?en.0Et closes with "Fra Diavo'.o," and Miss Guthrie as the prima donna. Tue excellence cf this company should insure better audiences for the retnaiader of the en-pagemf-nt, and the "explanation" of llr. Carlton between the third and fourth acts, while In the nature of a dfserfed complaint, eliouJd be heeded by our music loving public. "GEMIXK COLORED MIKST3ELS'' AT EXüI.ISIl's. English's Opera House, large 83 it is, wai epain packed last night by a well pleas?d audience. Henderson's troupe of ganuins ebony artists eeem to suit our reoola to a dot. The "first" part and ha grand "finale' ' ictrcdocp, tbroueh Beard, Johnson, Back, Orten, Edwarde, Hawkins, Hume and Conly, the principle peopio in the company, some of the best eioginp;. dancing and bide-epllt-ting jckts teen and heard hre for a locg time at auy minstrel show. Jchn Aircstrocg, the "Alabama iavi," in his imitations of steam calliope and saw mill, circus leaping deg and iron jwact, is great. "Clorinda'8 Loveis;" (;hailes Hunn, in bislarghable epecia'.ty of "Hello, Bab?!" Ed Johnson and the Three rick.anlnnii's; the fenny ehetch. "Iba Charcoal Man," and "Life cn the Old Plantation," with Johnson, Ccnly and May, assisted by the company, in the ''Mobile Buck Dmce," make ths evening cue cf complete eDjDjmcnt. The troupe ; will remain at Eogüäh'e &U wpcJc, giving two peifcrmances daily. Prices, 10 and 20 cents. THE DIMS 2JU3SC?r. i Th-s popular amusement rasort continue to ride on the top wave of proaparity, and is Laving packed houses day and night all the time. The show th:s week is oüe of the strongest and best of the sesson, and gives perltet satisfaction to everybody. In curiosity hall can be seen Taoh, the hornei man, one of the most wonderful curiosities of the ege; aleo John Long, an intelligent old colored man, whcs3 ago is slid to ba 143 Tears; Princess Lucy, the queen midget: Thums, the living balf woman; Profestor DeLille, the clever illusionist, aud the Kitte rs. Tyrolean warblers. The tta? show is civen by the popular Kennedy Sketch Club, who gave an excellent performance of the excruciatingly funny farcical comedy, "The Debutante." The members of this company are all good acton, and their wotk is artistically done. Mr. John Kennedy is an especially clever comedian of correct methods, aud hU Imitation of noted actors is well djne. Wallace King, the "Black Csmpanlni," sings "The Cricket on the Hesrth" and "I'll Await My Love," in utual superb manner, and Baker and Clark are the best musical team that has appeared here for a long time. In short, everything on the bill is iirst-claes, and no one should ail to Tisit the Museum this week. OTE3. The Zoo opens next week. Matinee at English's this afternoon.
