Emmet Bennett has married Sarah Toner as a compromise to the paternity suit brought by the lady against him. The police yesterday morning ciptured Fred Spencer, a aroall boy. who recently ecaped from the House of Refuge. The Grand Opera House was again completely filled yesterday afternoon and last night by enthusiastic and delighted audiences of ladies, gentlemen and childrento witness the marvelous exhibition given by the hoiEOs comprising the W. C. Coup Equescurriculum. The programme was slightly varied and improved from the first sight, and the marvelous intelligence displayed by the equices in answering to their names and doing whatever told them by their trainer, Professor Bristol, brought forth continuous bursts of applause from the delighted audience. The play of "school" pleased all the little ones, who were fairly wild in their delight over the antics of the droll tiick mule, Denver, as teacher, and the intelligence of his pupils. The jumping of the rope, swinging, leaping, teteringon a long plank and other amusing acts of wonderful intelligence, kept the audience Ina constant slate of amazement. The children weie especially pleased with the Swiss bell ringing troupe, the rolling of barrels, churning, sitting down in chairs, drinklnc from a bottle, etc., while the military evolutions and drill cf the squad excited the admiration of all. There will be a grand family matinee this afternoon at '2 o'clock cheap piice8, fifteen, twenty-five and thirty-five cents ruling, and final performancs to-night at h. Those who hava not seen these wonderful horses should embrace the only remaining opportunities. NOTES. Thecdore Thomas' orchestra is among the coming attractions at KoglUh'p. The Smith family cf Swiss bell ringers will hold the boards at English's Opera House all of next wtek, playing at chtap prices. Gcverror Gray and family have accepted an invitation to attend the Mammoth Mastodon Circus to-night. A private bsx has been set apart for their accommodation. The celebrated Mexican Typical Orchestra, compesed of twenty-five stilled musicians, will be at the Grand Opera Houfe the last three cJghis of next week. They are said to be far eu eerier to the once famous "Spanish Students" in every way. Bartley Campbell's famous ''G alley Slave" Company will be the attraction at the Grand Opera House the first half of next week, playing for the benefit of the Uniform Rank K. of P. This is one of the largest and best companies on the read, and the play Is one cf the strongest Mr. Campbell ever wrote. The Dime Museum continues to ride on the top wave of popular favor, and the erowda are eo large at night that frequently three shows have to be given to accommodate them. Last night there was a perfect jam. The "caxntl girl," "Hop o' My Thumb," the armlets wonder, Barney Nalson; Maud Rose, the bearded lady, and a strong stage show can all be seen for ten cents. Postmaster JoneB Commleslon. The commission of Postmaster Jones arrived yesterday, and the invoice of the property will take place this evening and tonight and the new official will enter upon his duties Sunday morning. Mr. Jones announces that John W. Dodd will be Assistant Postmaster; his eotj, B. F.Jones, Cashier; James H. Deery, Scperintendent ot Carriers; Rev. O H. P. Abbott, ttamp clerk; Joe Eheppard, Superintendent of Mail-bag Repairs, and Mr. Charles Wilder, Superintendent of the Mcney Order Department. Captain Fox, Miltcn Wilson and Alfred Harrison will have positions under Sheppard. Mr. Jon 8 states that the appointment of Mr. Wilder is only temporary. Jack Howard Hurt. The Jeüersonviile correspondent of the Louisville Courier-Journal eays that Captain Jack Howard, Warden of the Southern Prison, and well-known in this city, was thrown from his buggy Thursday evening while in front of the Penitentiary and severely cut and bruised on the face and head. The horse which he was driving became unmanageable and run onto a pile of lumber, overturning the bug?y. Mr. Howard's injuries are not thought to be serious. A Sweet Spill. While passing along Washington street, near Tennessee, yesterday morning a wheel came oß of one of A. G. Klrtlaod's wagons and a barrel of roolsss's was thrown oat npon the street. Falling on the end, the head of the barrel was driven in and the contents ran over the street for some distance. The B. and O. Telegraph Company.
