Turkey' I'olley la the Afghan War Cntt. C0!i.stäk riNorLJt, April 13. Afghan news hti greatly excited 11 classes. Two days go war was looked npon as certain, and the idea prevailed amoc natives and foreigners that Russia ruliht be expected to mike a dash for the Bcephorua. and at any moment the British C et xniht appear intheDardaa lies. Nothing much is talked about but the prospects of an ADKlo-Tarkteh alliance. The Saltan hesitates to adopt any positively cannrcniialcs attitude, being unwilling to fearlessly trust England without eome proof of the reality of British friendship before incurring the enmity of liassia. Tress amenta, coruequfcutly, received instructions to epread theidealn foreign journals that Tarkey will preserve neutrality in case of war. Neverthelej, your correspondent is swsmed in a strong quarter that Tariey will join Enpltnd, should war occur, being compelled to do to by forca of circumstancD General KomarofTB raid not being followed by an English declaration cf war, the pre ent opinion among foreign diplornatistj is that the matter may be arranged fur the reeentwith the usual Gladstone timidity. Bat all think that the struggle can only ba deferred. Turkish feeling cenerally is in favor of an alliance with England. The Tarfcisa army and navy are longing for war. Indeed Tarkish olEcers and men of either service are burning to repay Russia for the sufferings produced by the last ctruegle. Circa!s!an efneers are particularly excited at the prospect of another campaign on the Armenian frontier. There is talk about ths recapture ot Batonm, at wh!ch place Iinsttia 13 very busy. A shipmaster, just arrived from there, reports the continual arrival of military stores and the construction of new redoubts. Speaking generally, the average Turkish idea is that without an allianca with England they are lost. Yet, so rudely shaken has their faith been in England en account cf the Eryptian business, they can not bring themselves to credit the British Government with any good intentions on their behalf. Speculation Regarding the Sources or Grain Supply In Case of War. l-ost'ox, April 13. The Ballionist says, with perhaps the wih 83 parent to the thought, the imminence of war will provoke a lively discussion as to the probable effect upon American trade. All American eecurities have advanced upon the assumption that grain shipments will immeasurably Increase and that otherwise an important .stimulus must ba given in various direction;. Before following the movement too readily. It would be well to Inquire Into the relations between the two countries. S3 far S3 wheat 5a concerned, which seems to form the main point on which the more hopeful feeling of the eoeculatois is bastd, and it should be remembered that there are other important sources of supply, to gay nothing of what can be drawn from , Australia. The growth of wheat and corn in India has developed in a measure to make us almost careless cf what America can do. The visible supply of grain in the United State3 is at the present time large, while ita stocks in G;eit Britain are moderate. This, it may be said, favors the theory upon which American securities have latterly risen. But. as a set off, tha quality of the American growth is not exactly suitable to our requirements. What is principally wanted is red wheat, and it is perfectly well known that the bulk ay eight tenth3 of the supply aScat consists of white. Under these ciicums'ances, then, it Is difilco.lt to imagine that cur cansins acrcs3 the Atlantic can very successfully compete with Indian and Australia producers, both of whom occupy unquestionably a position of advantage, in at least the point of quality. It is the universal impression among London financiers that both the banks and outside market may be considered as unusually wall prepared for all contingencies implied by a state of ar. gfjmonr'i Hudzet of News. Bpcctal to the BentlncL Ssymour, Ind., April 13. Sheriff Ilugh A. Burrell arrived here this morning with Henry England, whom he captured .in Macon County, Illinois. England is the man who is charged with making a false alii davit before Clerk Frank Barrell in relation to a jouDg lady's age for marriage. He gave Commissioner Humes as bondsman for $300 and then jumped the bail bond. Mr. Humes deserves great credit for his untiring efforts to find out England's whereabouts. A party cf vigilant broke into the City Triton at a late hour la.t night and took out C. E. McCarthy, the man who burglarizsd the Business Printing Office Saturday nizht. Tt is understood they took him tj the City Bark, in the extreme eastern part of the city, pinioned him to a !sech tree, turned his pants down and his shirt up, and administered fifty lashes on his bare back, opening his hide every lick, the blood tlowing to his heels. The'pocr culprit is said to have beg2cd plteously for his captora to spare him further punishment on the promise to leave Seymour and never return. This they did, and he left for the North. However much the coed people of this city may regret such work as this, it eeems as If nothing but this kind of medicine will keep thieves and robbers away from here. The people feel compelled t resoit to such a conrse for telf protection, i.nct it will have the desired effect too. A leather mail peck thrown off the north bound train No. T, Saturday night, wss found a half mile south cf the city yesterday. It was cut open and nfled ot the contents. The affair was kept quiet yesterday in the hop3 that soire light might be learned touching the mystery, but it is still unsolved. Senator 1). V. Vcorbees, and Hon. Thomas Hanlcn, of New Albany, were in the city yesterday. A lilt of Sharp Practice. New Yohk, April 13 There were some very curious manipulation of Mutual Union Telegraph steck to day that have already become the subject ot Investigation by the Governor. When the Mutual Telegraph Com. pany passed under the control cf the Western Union, an agreement was made by which the stocks of the Mutual Union should ba exchanged for those of a new company, known as the New York Union. Nearly all of the stock has been so exchanged for the latter company. It appears that some one inside disclosed the fact that a email amount of Mutual Union steck tlll remained unchanged, and upon tech information shrewd oui-of town speculator opened numerous accounts with brokerage houes in this city cn small margins, and oa Sitardiy telegraphed to each hou"?e to fell 100 8hare3 of Mutual Union, that the stock hai been forwarded by express and would be here In time to make delivery to day. Unfortunately for the broken who aold, the stock did not arrive to-day, and In their efforts to bay the sto;k for delivery, the price went up from 17 J to
r.l. There were only 200 shares sold at the latterfgure and 200 at .V, which waisuSj. quently cancelled when President S rarx onds, of the Block Kzchanee, suspended all de alines in the stock pending an Investition. Tb committee on the stock list met at Z o'clock, but after a sejion of nearly three hcurs adjourned without coming to any conclusion. A meeting of the Governing Committee will be held to morrow. It is understood that SQ0 shares were sld on Saturday, and it is charged that fraud was attempted by the parties who ecld them, and who, it is believed, controlled all the outstanding stock.

Fell From a Moving Train. Special to the Sentinel. Wasitinüto.v, Ind., April 13. Yesterday morning at 2 o'clock Nilus Lavelle, a brother of Auditor J. C. Lavelle. of this county, died from the effects of an accidental fall from a moving train, which occurred on the 12th of March last. Shortly af ier the fall h$ was able to get around, but was never to say well. Last Monday he took violently ill, which within a week terminated fatally. A fracture of the skull was the cause. He will be interred to-morrow at St. Mary's, neir Lcogootee, under the auspices of ths Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Ha leaves a wife and a large numbsr of relative! and friends to mourn his loss. Tour Shots lu the Heart. San Antonio, Tex , April 11. A row oc curred at Tearsall this morning between Alf Atlee, Deputy Sheriff Will Jacots and Frank Rhodes, a special deputy, in which the two former shot the latter dead, firing twelve shete, eight of which took efftct in the victim, four in the heart. Rhodes did not have an opportunity to draw his pistol. The difficulty originated through the arrest of two Lore thieves by Rhodes. Atlee fired the first shot, which was a fatal onu, and Jacobs shot him full of bullets after he had fallen. Rhodes was a young man about thirty-two years old, raised in San Antonio, of good parentage, and universally re3pectaJ. Atlee and Jacobs rode out cftown and hence were not arrested. A Folice Justice llxponnd the Lord's 1'rajer to a Clergyman. New York, April 12 Rev. Edward D. Kelser, 01 the Seyenth Presbyterian Church, runs a roller skating rink next door to his church. A boy in his employ yesterday charged Margaret Welsh, an eighteen-yesr-old miss, with having concealed a piir of skates under her skirts. The young woman was searched, and although no skates were found she was locked up all night. Folice Justice Gorman this morning discharged tuo girl and said to the clergyman: "As I understand the praver it is, 'Lead us not inti temptation;' I da not think roller skating rinks carry out the ssntiment cf that prayer. An EcceLtrtc liachelor Murdered. Indepeni'Kcf:, Kas., April 12. Hiram Foulks, an elderly and eccentric bachelor, o! come property, who lived alone on a farm near this place, was murdered Friday nieht by some unknown D?rson, who then stole a horte and escaped. The crime was not discovered until today, wben Foulks' bo ly was found In a well, and the premises unter ated, except by an old watch dog, which had been shot In the leg. Foulks' as;ailant had shot him in the head, thrown his body into the well and then ransacked the house. A bag was found concealed cn Fouiks' person containing 1,700. A Good Appetite always accompanies good health, and an absence cf appetite is an indication of something wrong. The loss of a rational desire for food 13 seen followed by a lac of strergth, for when the supply of f ael is cut off, the fire burns low. At this season nearly every one needs something to revive and starpen the appetite, which is lost in the debilitating effect of changing weather. If it is neglected the system gts into a low &te, and is especially liable to severs attacks of disease. The universal testimony given by these who have used Hood's Sirtapaiiila, es to its great merits In restoring and sharpenicg the appetite, in promoting healthy action cf tbe aigestlvo organs, and as a purifier cf the blood, constitutes the strcrpci-t recommendation that can ba urged fcr any medicine. Those who have never ucd Hood's Sanaparilla should surelv do to this season. It will cer;ainiy tenefit you. "During the spring and summer I w troubled with biliousness and lo?s of appetite. I was jdvised to try Hood's Si'sapa rilia, and did so with the best results. I have re commended it to a great many of my cüstcruers, to whom it has given entire satisfaction." E, R.
