THE AMY f.OKPOX COMW OISP.A COMPANY AT XN'Jl.IUl'S. Commencing wif.h to night, tha Amy Gordon Comic Opera Company play a week's engagement at English's, producing all of Gilbert t Sullivan's sparkling and witty operas, "Pirates of Tenzsnce," "Marotte," "Olivette," "Billy Taylor." "Girotie Girofla," "Fra Diavolo." The latter will be put on to night and Wednesday maticee; "GiroEe Girofia," Tuesday night; "Mascotte ," Wednesday night; "Olivette," Thursday night; "Billy Taylor," Friday night and Saturday matinee; " Pirates of Penzance," Saturday night. Amy Gordon occupies the Eame place in burlesque opera at the present day as did Oates tome years ago. She is possessed of a beautiful form, natural grace and a melodious voice. Her support numbers such people as Mr. Paul Baum, Mrs. W. A. Morgan, Mr. C. Gilbert, Miss Adelle Barker and several other well-known artists of ability. The wardrobe and Btage effects are mostly new and costly. Much care has been taken to prcsentcach opera in a style and manner to insure success. Miss Amy Gordon and Mr. W, A. Morgan are the leading people of this admirable company, and those that have seen them will not hesitate to recommend them as singers and actors who strive and never fail to please an audience, no matter how critical. At the low price of admission fifteen, twenty-five and thirty-five cents the house should be packed at each performance. KOTES. Jim Cocke contemplates devastating the Cockrobin towns with a jim crow thow this summer. The Hyers Sisters Combination opens a week's engagement at Lyra flail to-night, presenting "The Blackville Twins." The "Three Wives to One Husband'; Companv play in Cincinnati this week. It will net be surprising if some of our "bestknown" are misted before the week is over. Jce Gordon is "not taring a word." The automatic wonder, Tauber' 8 famous Coluiubus clock, which is to ba on exhibition at the Dime Museum all this week, is eaid to be the marvel of the age. It is even a greater mechanical wonder than either the I'asaion er Strasburg clccks. Dictton'a Grand will remain closed until Wednesday evenicg, when the talented and popular little actresi, Minnie Maddern, returns for two performances of her popular success, "Caprice." She will have the support of ter original New York company, among whom are Mr. Henry Miller, T. J. Herndon, Percy Brooke, Harold Russell, Uvril Scott, Charles King, llobert Sinclair, F. W. Strong, Mary Madueru, Lillian Wallack and May Wheeler. The sale will open this morning at the theater box cilice, and should be large. The engagement of the McCaull Opera company in "Falka" at the Grand the last two nights of this week is attracting unusual attention. "Falka" is said to hava the brightest music and most laughable libretto of any modern opera. The com pany number over fifty people, among whom ar& such well known ODera bouffe and lyric artists as Miss Bertha Iticci, Miss Bsy Samuels, Miss Lillie Vinton. Miss Annie Leslie, Miss Alice May, Miss Helen Standisb, Miss Leona Clarke, George C. Boniface, jr., H. A. Gripps, Hubert Wilke, H. Macdonougb, Allred Klein, H. Roland, J. R. Smith and others. Major J. E. Pond has assumed the management of Minnie Maddern and her play, "Caprice," for the balance of the season. We are glad of this, and earnestly hope that this brightest of all the young stars will finish her season with the success she' deserves. Of all the lauded-to the-skies lady stars of the present dramatic epoch, none are more deserviDg of hearty recognition from the theater-going public than little Minnie Maddern. Gifted to a remarkable degree, modest in claims, she gives you more than jou expect. Her play, "Caprice," is as worthy of dramatic literature as she herself is worthy to the stage she adorns The Dime Museum will open the week this afternoon at 1 o'clock with the strongest bill of the season, the principal features beiDg Colonel Cooper, colossal Koglisn giant; Kogene Feralto, giant skeleton; Henrietta Moritz, mastodon midget; George James, monster fat boy; the Lacgan Juvenile Prodigies; German Rose Wax-works; Millie Owens, hirsute wonder from Missouri; Marvello. wonder-worker; Allen and Marlin, musical artists. On the stage, Edwards' "Drolleries," a comedy organization embracing Maud Walker, Maggie Evans, May Smith, Frank Lester, Joseph F. Campbell, C A. Chalfant, .TarcesS. Edwards, will present the conceit "Drolleries." P. Lieber it Co.'s Pilsener Beer on draught to lay. . LEGISLATIVE NOTES, After making ssveral verbal changes in the House bill providing means for carrying on the work of the new State House, it was passed by the Senate. The House Saturday adopted the Senate concurrent resolution to employ an expert to examine and compare the measurements of the walls of the Asylum for the Insane in connection with the John Martin claim. Senator Marshall's bill fixing the time of holding courts in the Twenty-first, Twentyu rondand Forty-seventh Judicial Circuits, and providing for prosecuting attorneys in the Twenty-tecond and Forty seventh Circuits, and a judge in the latter, was passed under a suspension of the rules. The Hoase resolved itself into Committee of the Whole Saturday morning to consider the General Appropriation bill, the question being on the amendment of Mr. Reeves that he item of appropriating $25,003 for new buildings at Pnrdue be amended by substituting one dollar. After acting on various amendments, the committee passed to the consideration of other items in the bill, thus leaving Furdue without any appropriation for new buildings. The appropriation to the Stats Normal was increased from $7,000 to 110,000. P. Lieber V Co.' Pilsener Beer on dranrhi
