All the Testimony In Iho Prisoners Flippant Grief of Mrs. Fletcher and Her Daughter. WiieaTon, II?., March 21 The Hope-Fletcher murder trial is ncaring the end, and as time lapses the interest grows more intense. The court-room yesierday morning was crowded, and mere women were present. Merritt Fletcher was tbe lest witness exacined. Like his lather, he cave his testimony slowly, deliberately and with a llippancy that utterly killed any sentiment that had been previously Büown in their favor. State Attorney L. C. Cooper, of Da Päse County, opened the arguments for tne prosecution. His speech was a abort review of the case. Ho was followed by C. W. Dwlht. for the defense, whospoke principally In rebuttal of Mr. Cooper's remark, btate Attorney Bussell, of Kane County, followed with an able argument consuming an hoirau i forty minute.. When the speaker mentioned trie chances the prisoners are running of balno: h8itgtd Mrs. F letcher burt into a violent fit of weeping, which continued taroua tbe remainder of the day. Her daughter remained more calm, crying at times. Both father aud son, however, remained as stolid and indirlereat as adamant. Only once did the former evince siras of . nervourncss. A portion of the Unio he held his' wife's hand, whlcn was the only coasola'ion h e attempted. The sou. Menltt, was esoaoUUy indifferent, and seemed totally oblivions of the fact that his life was at stake. A sneer frequently distorted bis countenance, however, whlo.i suggested some mental feellDg. Mr. Shissler made the closlnj argument of the day. ne spoke deliberately and eloquently, but in a way that snowed he thought there wss little hope for the prisoners. Judge E. H. Gary will maVe the closing address to-morrow morning and the ease will be giveu to the jury before noon. The feeling against the prisoners ran very high yesteraay, aud while Merritt Fletcher was giving his testimony many an audible murmur was heard 1h the room. Counsel for the defense say they will take na apical should the jury return any o'.er verdict than thatof aconltial. ESCAPED LYNCHING.
