Alexander Glroux, a shoemaker, who has lived in Fulton and vicinity for twenty five years, is cf French-Canadian -origin and has always borne a good reputation. For several weeks, there bavins been a rumor that his f on, who was reported to have been lost last fall, mlgh vo been murdered, District Attorney Mead, of Oswego County, has been Invest!eating the case. What may have given color to this theory was the sudden sale of Giroux's house and lot In Lower Ojvr?go Falls, and, as reported, his departure to Canada. It was also Mid that he had, during list rrar, caused a small insurance to be taken on the life of his son. Mr. G irons says that be has at lust snceeded in finding bla lost boy. His method wa to vitt a town, grt the rolls cf the district schools, and see If bis on's came might be found. After visiting nearly all the villages in Madifon and Oneida counties he was rewarded a dav or two sines by ßndic; the boy. who Is living with Mr. Lewis, at . a place which the father f referred not to ntne. The boy was kidnaped, he says, by an Indian doctress. who came from Canada, and who broke Into his boute and took what money behad at tne tine. This woman, he said, was to be arrested to!ay and brought before a Justice on these charges. The insurance story came from the fact that an asent of a co-operative company induced the son to irsure, but he never paid more than a few - ahlllices. Washington and Baltimore rates are kept uearly up to the standard. Still Abusing Bliss Van Zandt. Paris. March 21. Several of the minor papers of this city continue to abuse Miss Yan Zandt, the American prima donna. It Is believed these repeated attacks by the Boulevard papers will compel tne Director of the Opera Comlqua to tempolarily withdraw Miss Yan Zandt from the stage, although this course will involve considerable pe cuniary loss. Marshal Hughes was appointed by President Arthur, at the InFtance of senator Mahone. some three years ago, and has been quite a popular ofiicer. While of the same came he is no relative of District Judge Hughes. No one knows how his accounts stand with the department, but rumor (ays he is in arrears, the amount of which, howev6r, his sureties are good for. Hughes Is raid to have tendered his resignation and gone West General Orant'a Condition. New Yoi:k, March 21. General Grant went to sleep between 10:."0 and 11 o'clock ia.t night, and rcted uncrtsily. He slept at intervals nntll after midnight, when he got up and walked about his loom and library. When the General arose this morning he took some liquid food in his room. Colonel Kred Grant states tnat his fither receives about twenty applications a day for autozraphs, and it Is a physical impossibility for the invalid to comply Avlth these requests. While the writing of ore autograph would not require much exertion twenty would be a day's work for htm, and it will be well for the public to know, 6aid Colonel Grant, that such demands can not be met. Coal Miner' Convention. Phtsrci c, March 21 The Railroad Coal Miners' Convention here to-day was largely attended. The reports from the delegates were very encouraging to the convention. Of tho thirty-seven pits aloEg the railroad twenty-two were closed on account of the strike, ten were in operation at the price demanded by the miners, end live were working at tha reduction. To-day ends the second week of the strike, and it seems no nearer a settlement than when it commenced. Ten thousand men are idle, and it is estimated that they have already lest in wages SIDO.OCO. Coal is getting scarcer every day, and a number of manufacturers will be compelled to close for want of fuel. Shocking Deed of nn Insane Mother. St. Louis, March 21. Mrs. Kreuger, wife of a German farmer living six miles from Pacific, Mo., murdered one of her little children Thursday evening by nearly severing its head from the body with a butcher knife. She also attempted to kill her other two children, but they escaped from her and alarmed their father, who had great dirhculty in overoowering his wife who was violently insane, and claimed she had been ordered to sacrifice all her children. Bert was convicted of larceny. Meeting of Creditors of a Itallroad. Cincinnati, March 21. About fifty creditor! of the Cincinnati and Eastern Railroad, which Is now in the hands of John IL McLean, receiver, at a meeting to day appointed a committee to prepare a poller for the future and to report two weeks hence. The Auditor made a statement, showing a total indebtedness of 5 -,350. CO J. Hank Suspended. Albany, N. Y'., March 21. The Schoharie National Bank, at Schoharie Tillage, has suspended. President Krum always enjoyed (rood credit, and bears the reputation of being a shrewd business man. Of late, however, it la said he has speculated considerably and lost heavily. It Is rumored that an unlucky hop speculation was the cause of the failure. Terrific Storm. Mount Washington, N. II., March 21. There was a terrific storm last night, and a northwest wind prevailed which had a velocity of 100 to 110 miles an hour. It was forty-eight degrees below zero this morning. Afghanistan. London, March 2L It is not yet known what action was taken at yesterday's Cabinet Council, but there Is a generally credited report that it was decided to accept the P.usso-Afghan boundary line c aimed by Russia. Hesigoed. Louisville, March 21. A. J. Auxier, United States Marshal of Kentucky, sent his resignation to the President to-day, and returned to his home in Pikesville. Ky., leaving the office in charge of Deputy Marshal Moody. Adjourned. Rom i, March 21. The Chamber of Deputies have adjourned until April 27, after rejecting by majorities of over 100 the two votes of censure to the Government. Sunk la Bristol Channel. London, March 21. The Brit iah steamer Rhonddan was sunk in the Bristol Channel by the British steamer Brooklyn City, from New oik.
