The weather yesterday and last night was o! a character that tended to the full enjoyment of roller skating, being cool enough to render a little exercise necessary to comfort, and the skaters took advantage of this favoritism of old Boreas by densely packing the "Wigwam" Rink at each eesston. The little folks in the afternoon took almost entire possession of the etructure, they being present by hundreds. They seemed to enjoy the graceful exerciEe with as much zest as their elder brothers and altera. The management, to-morrow evening, will give all amateur skaters the privilege of testing their speed in a two mile race, free for all, a pair of club skates being given as a prize to the winner. There is already a large number of 'artists' ctered for the contest Next Thursday evenicg a "calico" party will be given, and It will no doubt prove a very pleasant and ecccasful entertainment. Ulegant prizes are offered for various styles of costumes. The ladies will have an opportunity to test their skill in the fashioning qf novel and unique dre?ses for this occasioa. The Meridian Felo Clnb defeated the Ha'cjon Club last nht, at ths Meridian Pack, by a score of 2 to 1; time. 30 minutes. Previous to the game Harry Eden, of the Meridian CJub, was presented a lan?e codfish, handsomely decked with colored ribbors, tn which were attached bottles of arnica, tolu. sticking plaster, and other polo essentials. The presentation speech by Murray, in connection with the letter from the 'President of the League, caused much merriment Eden responded feelingly, while the ejis of the spectators filled with tear?. The College Avenue Fk(nk was well tilled lsst night, as usual, there seeming to ba no counter attraction sufficient to leaien the drawing qualities of this popular plica of amusement. Tnrsiay evening a whei barrow race will be the featnre. It is said to be very amusirg to the spectators. A skate case will be given as a prize tn the winner. Next Friday evening a grand fancy dress carnival will take place. Handsome prizes are offered. "Not In a Horn," But Those Horne. Mr. Henry Schwinge, the tea merchant, is the recipient of a present of an extraordinarily large pair of elk horns from his friend, Rev. Myron W. Reed, of Denver. Mr. Schwinge prizes them very highly for the double reason, viz , that of the donor's kindly remembrance, and also because they are the largest ever seen in Colorado or any other State. They measure about six feet in length and are over five feet from tip to tip of each arm. Mr. Schwinge, who is a fancier of such relics, having the most exten sive display of stuffed birds, wild game, deer-heads, etc, in the State, will have the bead and neck of this "monarch of the glens' suitably stuffed and placed in the how window of his store on exhibition. The Bates Douse Improvements If the present favorable weather continues the work of adding two more stories to the Bates House will be started shortly. The fifth story to the reconstructed hotel will be a mansard of the most elaborate and ornamental sort. Besides the niditlon of the two stcrles and other outward improvements, the internal changes will be no les striking and Important When completed, the old time guest will not know the somewhat ancient landmark of the Hoosier capital. Examining' Applicants. The Civil Service Commissioners, Chief Kxaminer Lyman, Messrs. F. C. Truaaler, D. M. Elliott and II. F. Craft, yesterday, In the Government building examined nearly 100 ipplicanU for positions In the various de partments at tba National Capital. The applicants were examined In the history of the United States, grammer. geography, composition, etc A record is kept of those who have the highest average, and they art itcemmecded for positions Jlrstf

In the .Sat and Cap line prevailed at Liie MODEL yesterday. The more announcement that wo would open a first-class hat department was sufficient notice to the public that hereafter they would be able to buy their Hats and Oap3, as well as their Clothing and Furnishing Goods, at but a small advance on the first cost of manuacture. All day long our Hat Department was crowded. Our50 cent, $LOO and 1.50 Hats kept going sith a rush, for they can not be equalled at other hat stores under $1.50, $2 and $2.50. Our Finer Hats are made and trimmed in the best possible manner. A glance at our goods and prices will convince any one that we can save you at least 25 per cent, on a Hat or Cap. We are daily in receipt of new lines of SPUING OVERCOATS. If you want a "nobby" garment, look through our stock of Corkscrews,

Her friends have tendered her a testimonial benefit before her departure, and it will be given at PfaHlin's Musio Hall next Friday evening.
